TGFβ1 is a powerful regulator of fibrosis; secreted in a latent form, it becomes active after release from the latent complex. During tissue fibrosis, the EDA + isoform of cellular fibronectin is overexpressed. In pulmonary fibrosis it has been proposed that the fibronectin splice variant including an EDA domain (FN EDA+) activates latent TGFβ.

Purpose: Mastering intracorporeal suturing is challenging in the evolution from conventional to laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Among various techniques competing for superiority in overcoming this hurdle, we focus on exploring the potential of barbed sutures through a meta-analysis that compares outcomes to those of conventional non-barbed sutures in bariatric surgery.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search on PubMed, Scopus, and Embase to identify studies comparing barbed sutures with non-barbed sutures in bariatric surgeries, focusing on outcomes such as operative time, suturing time, postoperative complications, and hospital stay.

This case report details a diagnosis of myositis ossificans in a collegiate golfer with right ulnar-sided hand pain after striking the ground on a swing. Despite conservative treatment and a thorough workup, the patient's ulnar-sided hand pain did not improve. An ultrasound eventually revealed myositis ossificans within the abductor digiti minimi muscle.

Introduction: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is currently the most frequently performed procedure for obesity worldwide. Staple line reinforcement (SLR) has been suggested as a strategy to reduce the risk of staple line leak or bleeding; however, its use for SG in the United Kingdom (UK) is unknown. This study examined the effect of SLR on the development of postoperative complications from SG using a large national dataset from the UK.

Severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is an underrated, common pathology that affects over 70 million individuals worldwide. Traditionally, TR has been managed with diuretic therapies without any significant mortality benefit. The underlying cause of TR can be primary, coming from structural issues with tricuspid valve and more commonly secondary, arising from conditions affecting the right ventricle or the pulmonary circulation.

Introduction: The need for a global core competency and capability framework for advanced practice physiotherapy is important due to the rapidly changing nature of health care delivery internationally and the need to standardize advanced practice physiotherapy.
Objective: To determine the importance of a proposed international core competency and capability framework for advanced practice physiotherapy.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey of advanced practice physiotherapists across seven countries.

Introduction: Surgeons are expected to work long hours in operating theatres. A high prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal (WRMSK) injuries and pain in healthcare professions exists. We aimed to study WRMSK pain and injuries in general surgeons and study their risk in different surgical techniques comprising open, laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery.

Background: This meta-analysis examines the comparative diagnostic performance of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the diagnosis of Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) on different respiratory tract samples, in both human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and non-HIV populations.
Methods: A total of 55 articles met inclusion criteria, including 11 434 PCR assays on respiratory specimens from 7835 patients at risk of PCP. QUADAS-2 tool indicated low risk of bias across all studies.

In September 2023 members of the cell adhesion and cell migration research community came together to share their latest research and consider how our work might be translated for clinical practice. Alongside invited speakers, selected speakers and poster presentations, the meeting also included a round table discussion of how we might overcome the challenges associated with research translation. This meeting report seeks to highlight the key outcomes of that discussion and spark interest in the cell adhesions and cell migration research community to cross the perceived valley of death and translate our work into therapeutic benefit.

Introduction: Intra-abdominal drains are often placed in emergency gastrointestinal surgery procedures with the aim to prevent the formation of intra-abdominal collections (IAC) and aid in their early detection. However, the evidence for this is debated. This scoping review aims to evaluate the current evidence for their use in this setting.

Over the last 20 years, advances in point-of-care lung ultrasound (PoCLUS) have been consistent. The clinical application of PoCLUS has drastically changed the diagnosis of some respiratory conditions mainly in the acute setting. Despite these improvements, misconceptions regarding the current scientific evidence and errors in the direction given to the latest research are delaying the implementation of PoCLUS in the clinical field.

We conducted a thorough electronic search of the literature, encompassing databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from their inception up to March 5, 2024. Furthermore, we meticulously examined the bibliographies of included studies to identify additional relevant literature.

A syndrome centered on the dysregulation of behavioral rhythms (DBR) is discussed. Recent pandemic brought to observe: (1) Having a DBR affecting sleep patterns, eating habits, and social interactions, before the lockdown period, was a determinant for depressive episodes during the lockdown; (2) In tighter lockdowns, DBR triggered depressive episodes in bipolar patients; (3) DBR in healthcare workers under pressure was a determinant of burnout; (4) DBR influenced the course of chronic diseases by altering immune responses. In addition, it was found that scoring positive on the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) was closely associated with the dysregulation of sleep rhythms.

Aims: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and concomitant cardiometabolic disease processes interact and combine to lead to adverse events, such as stroke, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and cardiovascular death. Circulating biomolecules provide quantifiable proxies for cardiometabolic disease processes. The aim of this study was to test whether biomolecule combinations can define phenotypes in patients with AF.

Prior studies have explored the links between congenital anomalies and assisted reproduction techniques, among other factors. However, it remains unclear whether a particular technique harbors an inherent risk of major congenital anomalies, either cumulatively or in an organ-specific manner. A meta-analysis was conducted using relevant studies from inception to February 2023 using six databases and two appropriate registers.

Methods: This was an observational cohort study of people of self-reported Black ethnicities attending for HIV care at nine HIV clinics across England. The primary outcome was a composite of antiretroviral therapy (ART) interruption and HIV viraemia (HIV RNA ≥200 copies/mL) ascertained via self-completed questionnaires and review of medical records.
