Wastewater testing can inform public health action as a component of polio outbreak response. During 2022-2023, a total of 7 US jurisdictions (5 states and 2 cities) participated in prospective or retrospective testing of wastewater for poliovirus after a paralytic polio case was identified in New York state. Two distinct vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 viruses were detected in wastewater from New York state and New York City during 2022, representing 2 separate importation events.

Background: Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) is femoral head slippage off the femoral neck through the physis occurring in children aged 8-16 years. Surgical intervention is required in all paediatric cases and there is no universal agreement on choice of surgical procedure.

Research Question: What are the two-year 3D gait outcomes in children with SCFE who have undergone in-situ pinning (PIN) or modified Dunn procedure (MDP) compared with normative reference values?

Methods: 17 children with SCFE who had undergone PIN (n=7, slip severity mild to moderate) or MDP (n=10, slip severity moderate to severe) surgical procedures prospectively underwent a 3D gait analysis post-surgery (2∙0 ± 0∙5 years).

While researchers find that attorneys in CSA trials dedicate substantial time to questioning children about the plausibility of their reports, we know of no study to date that has assessed the types of plausibility issues attorneys raise, the relative frequency of different types, or if attorneys vary their plausibility questioning depending on case characteristics. In the current study we explored these questions. Guided by the story model of jury decision-making, we proposed defense attorneys would raise plausibility issues by 1) highlighting jurors' misconceptions about CSA dynamics; 2) highlighting confusing or implausible statements made by the child; and 3) offering alternative explanations for events.

High-fat, low-fiber Western-style diets (WD) induce microbiome dysbiosis characterized by reduced taxonomic diversity and metabolic breadth, which in turn increases risk for a wide array of metabolic, immune and systemic pathologies. Recent work has established that WD can impair microbiome resilience to acute perturbations like antibiotic treatment, although we know little about the mechanism of impairment and the specific host consequences of prolonged post-antibiotic dysbiosis. Here, we characterize the trajectory by which the gut microbiome recovers its taxonomic and functional profile after antibiotic treatment in mice on regular chow (RC) and WD, and find that only mice on RC undergo a rapid successional process of recovery.

Purpose: To evaluate the change in hip distractive stability after a cam over-resection, labral tear, repair, labrectomy, or circumferential 6- or 10-mm labral reconstruction in a biomechanical model.

Methods: Ten fresh-frozen matched-pair human cadaveric hips were analyzed using a materials testing system to measure the force and distance required to disrupt the suction seal of the hip (1) with an intact capsule and labrum; (2) after a capsulectomy and labral repair; (3) after a capsulectomy, 5-mm cam over-resection and labral repair; (4) after a capsulectomy, 5-mm cam over-resection and labral tear; (5) after a capsulectomy, 5-mm cam over-resection and labrectomy; and (6) after a capsulectomy, 5-mm cam over-resection and a 6- or 10-mm circumferential labral reconstruction with iliotibial band (5 hips each). Each specimen was retested at 0° flexion, 45° flexion, and 45° flexion and at 15° internal rotation and analyzed using nonparametric statistical methods.

Aim: To explore self-reported dentofacial trauma and their potential endodontic sequelae in boxers using a questionnaire, followed by clinical and radiographic assessment to (1) compare the nature and number of self-reported dentofacial injuries with physical evidence of injury sequelae; and (2) investigate potential risk factors influencing dentofacial trauma and their endodontic sequelae.

Methodology: A focus group validated questionnaire was completed by 176 boxers recruited from 16 London boxing clubs; 61 boxers from this cohort then attended a London dental hospital, for a clinical and radiographic assessment.
