Background: Anterior chamber-associated immune deviation (ACAID) is an active immunotolerance mechanism, which is induced by placing antigen into the anterior eye chamber as long as a major surgical trauma is avoided. For this reason, ACAID may be a major contributor to the favorable immunologic outcomes in Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK). Rodent models have demonstrated the importance of a functional spleen for the development of an ACAID.

Purpose: The Treatment exit Options For non-infectious Uveitis (TOFU) registry documents disease courses for non-anterior non-infectious uveitis entities with and without treatment to generate more evidence for clinical management recommendations including treatment exit strategies. In this article, we present the participants' baseline characteristics after the first 3 years.
Methods: TOFU is an observational, prospective registry and recruits patients ≥18 years of age with non-anterior non-infectious uveitis with or without a history of previous disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) treatment.

Purpose: To report the first chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) patients who underwent an intravascular lithotripsy (IVL)-assisted percutaneous deep vein arterialization (pDVA).
Case Report 1: An 81-year-old patient presented with CLTI and a heavily calcified lesion of the popliteal artery and tibioperoneal trunk (TPT), with a distal tibial and foot arch occlusion. The patient underwent IVL and drug-coated balloon angioplasty for the distal popliteal artery and of the TPT to improve the inflow prior to pDVA.

Fundus autofluorescence (FAF) is a prompt and non-invasive imaging modality helpful in detecting pathological abnormalities within the retina and the choroid. This narrative review and case series provides an overview on the current application of FAF in posterior and panuveitis. The literature was reviewed for articles on lesion characteristics on FAF of specific posterior and panuveitis entities as well as benefits and limitations of FAF for diagnosing and monitoring disease.

In angiogenesis research, scientists need to carefully select appropriate in vitro models to test their hypotheses to minimize the risk for false negative or false positive study results. In this study, we investigate molecular differences between simple two-dimensional and more complex three-dimensional angiogenesis assays and compare them to in vivo data from cancer-associated angiogenesis using an unbiased transcriptomic analysis. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were treated with VEGF in 2D wound healing and proliferation assays and the 3D spheroid sprouting assay.

Introduction: Radial access is the standard of care for nearly all cardiac catheterization procedures. It improves patient satisfaction, reduces the length of stay, and is associated with fewer complications. However, few devices and tools are available for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease via a transradial approach (TRA).

Background: Despite the key role of optimized fasting in modern perioperative patient management, little current data exist on perioperative fasting intervals in routine clinical practice.
Methods: In this multicenter prospective study, the length of pre- and postoperative fasting intervals was assessed with the use of a specifically developed questionnaire. Between 15 January 2021 and 31 May 2022, 924 gynecology patients were included, from 13 German gynecology departments.

Aberrant angiogenesis is a hallmark of cardiovascular and retinal neovascular disease. The STAT3 signaling pathway represents a potential pharmacological target for these diseases due to its impact on angiogenesis. Surprisingly, some STAT3 activators, such as the IL-6 cytokine family member oncostatin M (OSM), enhance angiogenesis, whereas others, such as ciliary neurotropic factor (CNTF), reduce it.

Background: Gene expression analysis using RNA sequencing has helped to improve the understanding of many diseases. Databases, such as the Gene Expression Omnibus database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information provide RNA sequencing raw data from various diseased tissue types but their analysis requires advanced bioinformatics skills. Therefore, specific ocular databases provide the transcriptional profiles of different ocular tissues and in addition enable intuitive web-based data analysis.

The aim of this study was to identify growth-restricted fetuses using biometric parameters and to assess the validity and clinical value of individual ultrasound parameters and ratios, such as transcerebellar diameter/abdominal circumference (TCD/AC), head circumference/abdominal circumference (HC/AC), and femur length/abdominal circumference (FL/AC). In a retrospective single-center cross-sectional study, the biometric data of 9292 pregnancies between the 15th and 42nd weeks of gestation were acquired. Statistical analysis included descriptive data, quantile regression estimating the 10th and 90th percentiles, and multivariable analysis.

Macular neovascularization type 3, formerly known as retinal angiomatous proliferation (RAP), is a hallmark of age-related macular degeneration and is associated with an accumulation of myeloid cells, such as microglia (MG) and infiltrating blood-derived macrophages (MAC). However, the contribution of MG and MAC to the myeloid cell pool at RAP sites and their exact functions remain unknown. In this study, we combined a microglia-specific reporter mouse line with a mouse model for RAP to identify the contribution of MG and MAC to myeloid cell accumulation at RAP and determined the transcriptional profile of MG using RNA sequencing.

Purpose: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is widely used product, and meta-analyses showed this product to be beneficial when applied to a wound area. This study group has already demonstrated increased patient satisfaction and lower complication rates in breast cancer patients who received PRP after removal of their subcutaneous venous access device. This work is a follow-up analysis focusing on oncologic safety.

The applications of deep sequencing technologies in life science research and clinical diagnostics have increased rapidly over the last decade. Although fast algorithms for data processing exist, intuitive, portable solutions for data analysis are still rare. For this purpose, we developed a web-based transcriptome database, which provides a platform-independent, intuitive solution to easily explore and compare ocular gene expression of 100 diseased and healthy human tissue samples from 15 different tissue types collected at the Eye Center of the University of Freiburg.

Background: Visual outcome of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration has significantly improved during the last years following the introduction of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy. However, about one third of patients show persistent exudation and decreasing visual acuity despite recurrent anti-VEGF treatment, which implies a role of other, still unknown proangiogenic mediators.
Methods: The present study applied transcriptional profiling of human and mouse (C57BL/6J wildtype) choroidal neovascularization (CNV) membranes each with reference to healthy control tissue to identify yet unrecognized mediators of CNV formation.
