Bariatric surgery (BS) has demonstrated cardiovascular benefits in patients and was previously proven to be associated with an increased natriuretic peptide level without cardiac dysfunction. However, new studies have emerged, which require us to re-examine the relationship and extent of the correlation between BS, weight loss, and cardiac natriuretic peptide levels. A systematic search was conducted.

Background: The role of general practitioners (GPs) in EDMs for CRC and PCa in Germany is not well-documented with comprehensive data.

Methods: We conducted a patient-centric survey in the German federal state of Berlin-Brandenburg at a 12-year interval to examine the role of GPs in EDMs for CRC and PCa.

Implementation of the new DGRh S2e guideline on diagnostics and treatment of adult-onset Still's disease in Germany : Implications for clinical practice in rheumatology.

Background: Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare autoinflammatory disease. Since it can lead to variable organ involvement, including life-threatening complications, and due to newly available therapeutic approaches, the German Society for Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Rheumatologie und klinische Immunologie; DGRh) issued a newly developed S2e guideline in December 2022.

Background: Cancer immunotherapy has revolutionized melanoma treatment, but the high number of non-responders still emphasizes the need for improvement of therapy. Objective: To compare all available rapid tests on a large cohort of recurrent bladder cancer during follow-up in this multicentre-study is the first study. BTA stat, NMP22 BladderChek, UBC Rapid Test CancerCheck UBC rapid VISUAL, and uromonitor are urinary-based rapid tests for bladder cancer detection.

Methods: In total, 187 urine samples were analyzed from patients with suspected recurrent non-muscle invasive urothelial bladder cancer on cystoscopy during follow-up in a real-world assessment.

Modification and Validation of the System Causability Scale Using AI-Based Therapeutic Recommendations for Urological Cancer Patients: A Basis for the Development of a Prospective Comparative Study.

The integration of artificial intelligence, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), has the potential to significantly enhance therapeutic decision-making in clinical oncology. Initial studies across various disciplines have demonstrated that LLM-based treatment recommendations can rival those of multidisciplinary tumor boards (MTBs); however, such data are currently lacking for urological cancers. This preparatory study establishes a robust methodological foundation for the forthcoming CONCORDIA trial, including the validation of the System Causability Scale (SCS) and its modified version (mSCS), as well as the selection of LLMs for urological cancer treatment recommendations based on recommendations from ChatGPT-4 and an MTB for 40 urological cancer scenarios.

This may arise from the reliance on specialised cultivation or nucleic acid amplification techniques for detection, which are more costly than standard urine culture and are typically only conducted by specialists like urologists.

TNBC-DX genomic test in early-stage triple-negative breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant taxane-based therapy.

Background: Identification of biomarkers to optimize treatment strategies for early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is crucial. This study presents the development and validation of TNBC-DX, a novel test aimed at predicting both short- and long-term outcomes in early-stage TNBC. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between TNBC-DX and efficacy outcomes [pathologic complete response (pCR), distant disease-free survival (DDFS) or event-free survival (EFS), and overall survival (OS)] in the validation cohorts.

Comparison of the European Foot and Ankle Score (EFAS) and the Self-Reported Foot and Ankle Score (SEFAS) in patients with foot and ankle surgery.

Background: The European Foot and Ankle Score EFAS and the Self-reported Foot and Ankle Score SEFAS are two Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) used in foot and ankle surgery. The EFAS has been published in recent years, while the SEFAS is a validated questionnaire based on the New Zealand total ankle questionnaire.

Methods: We compared the EFAS to the SEFAS, Short Form 36 (SF-36) and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) regarding reliability and validity based on the results of 126 patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery in a single center.

Perioperative Management for Port Catheter Procedures in Pediatric Patients with Severe Hemophilia and Inhibitors.

Background:  The objective of this systematic study was to assess the perioperative management and outcome of surgery in pediatric patients with hemophilia A/B and inhibitors compared to nonhemophilic pediatric patients.

Methods:  The surgical outcome of 69 port catheter operations in patients with hemophilia who developed inhibitory antibodies against the administered factor was compared to 51 procedures in the control group. In the patients with hemophilia and inhibitors, a standardized protocol for recombinant activated factor VII was used to prevent perioperative bleeding.

Patient-reported outcome measures in studies on hallux valgus surgery: what should be assessed.

Introduction: In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to assess the outcome following orthopedic surgery. But, we are lacking a standard set of PROMs to assess the outcome of hallux valgus surgery. The aim of this study was to analyze the chosen patient rated outcome scores used in studies reporting on hallux valgus surgery.

Case report: Spontaneous improvement and treatment considerations in leukoencephalopathy with calcifications and cysts.

We present the case of a patient with leukoencephalopathy with calcifications and cysts (LCC), who experienced progressive severe hemiparesis despite multiple neurosurgical interventions of a large contralateral cyst. Bevacizumab was proposed as an ultimate treatment option based on prior case reports. While awaiting reimbursement approval for bevacizumab, major improvement occurred in both clinical and radiological disease manifestations.

Population-based incidence rates of 15 neuromuscular disorders: a nationwide capture-recapture study in the Netherlands.

Most neuromuscular disorders are rare, but as a group they are not. Nevertheless, epidemiological data of specific neuromuscular disorders are scarce, especially on the incidence. We applied a capture-recapture approach to a nationwide hospital-based dataset and a patients association-based dataset to estimate the annual incidence rates for fifteen neuromuscular disorders in the Netherlands.

These technologies also provide opportunities to advance diagnostics and planning in human medicine and dentistry. The purpose of this literature review was to ascertain the applicability and significance of AI and to highlight its uses in maxillofacial surgery.
