Continued employment of pregnant women related to COVID (Corona Virus Disease) should only be considered if the risk of infection in the workplace is not higher than that of the general population. This option should therefore be carried out after an individual risk assessment with a precise description of the patient clientele and definition of the activities to be performed.

Structured sonography training in internal medicine intensive care and emergency medicine (SIN) comprises two levels and was proposed by three national societies in Germany (DGIIN, DGK and DEGUM). The curriculum consists of a basic level (SIN-I) and an expert level (SIN-II) which are consecutive levels teaching both theoretical and hands-on skills using a symptom-based approach. The current outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has reached Germany. The majority of people infected present with mild disease, but there are severe cases that need intensive care. Unlike other acute infectious diseases progressing to sepsis, the severe courses of COVID19 seemingly show prolonged progression from onset of first symptoms to life-threatening deterioration of (primarily) lung function.

Background: Urinary tract infections are among the more common types of nosocomial infection in Germany and are associated with catheters in more than 60% of cases. With increasing rates of antibiotic resistance worldwide, it is essential to distinguish catheter-associated asymptomatic bacteriuria from catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CA-UTI).
Methods: This review is based on publications from January 2000 to March 2019 that were retrieved by a selective search in Medline.

The proportion of elderly, frail, and multimorbid people has increased dramatically in recent decades resulting from demographic changes and will further increase, which will impact acute medical care. Prospective, randomized studies on geriatric intensive care are still lacking. There are also no international or national recommendations regarding the management of critically ill elderly patients.

Urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) are increasing due to demographic factors. Increasing life expectancy and sociocultural demands of women require successful treatments that also have low complication rates. Classic open procedures such as colposuspension or colposacropexy (native tissue repair as well as mesh procedures) are experiencing a renaissance due to the current critical view of mesh-repair pelvic floor surgery and continue to be of great importance.

Introduction: To check evidence that symptoms identical with those constituting "underactive bladder" (UAB) and "overactive bladder" (OAB) are caused by apical prolapse and cured by repair thereof.
Material And Methods: After repair of apical prolapse by mesh tape reinforcement of lax uterosacral ligaments (USL) data form 1,671 women were retrospectively examined to determine the presence of OAB and UAB symptoms and to check, how many were cured surgically. Thereby 3 different techniques were performed: elevate (n = 277), "Posterior IVS" (n = 1,049), and TFS cardinal (CL)/USL (n = 345).

Background: Several studies have shown that nonadherence to guidelines is pretty common in the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI). However, no urological study has raised the question, what are barriers or reasons for this nonadherence, yet.
Objectives: Consequently, we performed a survey among German urologists with the primary endpoint identification of barriers for nonadherence to German guidelines on UTI.

Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (eCPR) may be considered as a rescue attempt for highly selected patients with refractory cardiac arrest and potentially reversible aetiology. Currently, there are no randomised, controlled studies on eCPR. Thus, prospective validated predictors of benefit and outcome are lacking.

Background: Because sick and injured children from war and crisis areas can often only be helped to a limited extent in their countries of origin, those children with the most complex diseases often receive medical treatment in Europe.
Materials And Methods: To evaluate the postoperative outcome of reconstructive interventions in children from war and crisis areas, an evaluation of the clinic's internal database between 1997 and 2017 was carried out. The operative indication, the surgical procedure, any revisions or conversions and the overall mortality were analyzed.

Background: Compared to other countries, Germany has the highest number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, but, despite this, a shortage in ICU care is evident. Currently, little comprehensive data on ICU staffing and on subsequent closure of ICU beds are available. The current survey therefore aimed to systematically investigate the closure of ICU beds.

Background: Uncomplicated bacterial community-acquired urinary tract infection is among the more common infections in outpatient practice. The resistance level of pathogens has risen markedly. This S3 guideline contains recommendations based on current evidence for the rational use of anti - microbial agents and for the prevention of inappropriate use of certain classes of antibiotics and thus of the resulting drug resistance.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFUreteropelvic stenosis, also known as ureteropelvic junction obstruction, is an obstruction in the region of the pyeloureteral junction resulting in a urinary discharge disorder of the renal pelvis, which requires treatment.Since the first description of pyeloplasty by Trendelenburg in 1886 and the successful establishment of open pyeloplasty by Anderson and Hynes in 1949, the treatment strategies for ureteropelvic junction obstruction have developed considerably, especially in the last two decades. Although open pyeloplasty is still considered to be the gold standard, this concept is supplemented by modern minimally-invasive techniques today.

Introduction: Most aspects of implant-assisted reconstruction of pelvic floor in males and females are under debate and the research is not standardized. Registries are supposed to shed light to the indications, surgical techniques and material properties and to establish a standardized evaluation.
Methods: A working group was formed to create an online platform for registration and outcome measurement of implant-assisted operations for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and female and male stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
