The safety and efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) are well established in anterior circulation stroke (ACS) but are much less clear for posterior circulation stroke (PCS). The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of parenchymal hematoma (PH) and 3-month clinical outcomes after IVT in PCS and ACS. In an observational, cohort multicenter study, we analyzed data from ischemic stroke patients treated with IVT prospectively collected in the SITS (Safe Implementation of Treatments in Stroke) registry in the Czech Republic between 2004 and 2018.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with all-polyethylene tibial (APT) components has shown comparable survivorship and clinical outcomes to that with metal-backed tibial (MBT). Although MBT is more frequently implanted, APT equivalents are considered a low-cost variant for elderly patients. A biomechanical analysis was assumed to be suitable to compare the response of the periprosthetic tibia after implantation of TKA NexGen APT and MBT equivalent.

Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) impedes brain plasmin synthesis. Reduced plasmin activity facilitates cumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Since plasmin also regulates the synaptic activity, it is possible that altered PAI-1 is present in other neurodegenerative disorders.

FGF21 is an endocrine signaling protein belonging to the family of fibroblast growth factors (FGFs). It has emerged as a molecule of interest for treating various metabolic diseases due to its role in regulating glucogenesis and ketogenesis in the liver. However, FGF21 is prone to heat, proteolytic, and acid-mediated degradation, and its low molecular weight makes it susceptible to kidney clearance, significantly reducing its therapeutic potential.

Objective: This study aims to characterize the time course of impedance, a crucial electrophysiological property of brain tissue, in the human thalamus (THL), amygdala-hippocampus (AMG-HPC), and posterior hippocampus (post-HPC) over an extended period.
Approach: Impedance was periodically sampled every 5-15 minutes over several months in five subjects with drug-resistant epilepsy using an experimental neuromodulation device. Initially, we employed descriptive piecewise and continuous mathematical models to characterize the impedance response for approximately three weeks post-electrode implantation.

Transcription-replication conflicts (TRCs) induce formation of cotranscriptional RNA:DNA hybrids (R-loops) stabilized by G-quadruplexes (G4s) on the displaced DNA strand, which can cause fork stalling. Although it is known that these stalled forks can resume DNA synthesis in a process initiated by MUS81 endonuclease, how TRC-associated G4/R-loops are removed to allow fork passage remains unclear. Here, we identify the mismatch repair protein MutSβ, an MLH1-PMS1 heterodimer termed MutLβ, and the G4-resolving helicase FANCJ as factors that are required for MUS81-initiated restart of DNA replication at TRC sites in human cells.

Despite the extensive knowledge about the effects of chronic stress on cognition, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We conducted a cross-sectional moderation analysis on a population-based sample of 596 adults to examine the age- and sex-specific role of emotion regulation (ER) in the relationship between chronic stress and cognitive performance using validated self-report questionnaires. While women showed no direct or moderated relationship between stress and cognition, men displayed a distinct age-related pattern where stress was negatively associated with poorer cognitive performance at older ages, and the onset of this relationship was detected earlier in men with ER problems.

Complaints represent an important metric for assessing the quality of nursing home (NH) care. Using the Automated Survey Processing Environment (ASPEN) Complaints/Incidents Tracking System dataset (2017), we examined the relationships between zero-deficiency complaints (ZDCs) and zero-deficiency substantiated complaints (ZDSCs) and the proportion of residents with dementia. NHs ( = 15,339) were separated into three groups-proportion of residents with dementia in the top, two middle, and the bottom quartiles.

Background: Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) has been commonly reported in early Alzheimer's disease (AD) but rarely using biomarker-defined samples. It is also unclear whether genetic polymorphisms influence MBI in such individuals. We thus aimed to examine the association between the cognitive status of participants (amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI-AD) vs cognitively normal (CN) older adults) and MBI severity.
