Introduction: The benefit of secondary prevention in hypertensive patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is based on continual simultaneous taking of statins, antiplatelet agents and antihypertensive agents, preferably angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Our study was aimed at a) the analysis of the extent of non-persistence with multiple medication classes, and b) identifying factors associated with the likelihood of non-persistence.

Methods: In our cohort study, 3,401 hypertensive patients (1,853 females and 1,548 males) aged ≥65 years treated simultaneously with statins, antiplatelet agents and ACEIs/ARBs and in whom PAD was newly diagnosed during 2012 were analysed.

Using various independent modalities, we thoroughly characterized the optimized PEG-AuNPs. Here, we show that PEG-AuNPs are retained in the blood and provide a high contrast in the high-resolution µCT imaging of blood vessels and inner organs.

Osteosarcomas of the hand and foot: A sarcoma‑center case series experience.

Hand and foot osteosarcoma represents ~1% of all diagnosed cases of osteosarcoma. The rarity of osteosarcoma of the hand and foot leads to frequent misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis or incorrect treatments, which can lead to fatal consequences. Typically, salvaging the affected limb is the treatment of choice, and with the use of chemotherapy, 60-65% of patients with osteosarcoma can be treated without amputation.

Background: Large femoral defects after trauma, femoral non-unions, fractures complicated by osteomyelitis or defects after bone tumour resection present high burden and increased morbidity for patient and are challenging for reconstructive surgeons. Defects larger than 6 cm and smaller defects after failed spongioplasty are suitable for reconstruction using a free, eventually a pedicled vascularised bone flap.
