Long-lasting anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents have become an option to reduce treatment frequency, with ongoing research exploring optimal responses and safety profiles. This review delves into molecular targets, pharmacological aspects, and strategies for achieving effective and enduring disease control in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The molecular pathways involved in macular neovascularization, including angiogenesis and arteriogenesis, are explored.

An analysis of the factors involved in IOL decentration after phacoemulsification using CASIA 2 anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

Purpose: To evaluate the magnitude of IOL transversal shift (ITS) after phacoemulsification and to analyse the factors contributing to IOL decentration and ITS.

Methods: 94 consecutive patients who underwent cataract surgery and IOL implantation was enrolled. Each patient underwent anterior segment optical coherence tomography with CASIA 2 (Tomey, Nagoya, Japan) to assess crystalline lens decentration, thickness and diameter seven days preoperatively and at one and sixty days postoperatively.

Aims: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) using very high-power short-duration (vHPSD) radiofrequency (RF) ablation proved to be safe and effective. However, vHPSD applications result in shallower lesions that might not be always transmural. Multidetector computed tomography-derived left atrial wall thickness (LAWT) maps could enable a thickness-guided switching from vHPSD to the standard-power ablation mode.

Re-irradiation for recurrent intracranial meningiomas: Analysis of clinical outcomes and prognostic factors.

Purpose: Re-irradiation (re-RT) for recurrent intracranial meningiomas is hindered by the limited radiation tolerance of surrounding tissue and the risk of side effects. This study aimed at assessing outcomes, toxicities and prognostic factors in a cohort of patients with recurrent meningiomas re-treated with different RT modalities.

Materials And Methods: A multi-institutional database from 8 Italian centers including intracranial recurrent meningioma (RM) patients who underwent re-RT with different modalities (SRS, SRT, PT, EBRT) was collected.

Purpose: To evaluate the impact of optical coherence tomography phenotypes preceding atrophy related to age-related macular degeneration on the progression of atrophic lesions.

Methods: In this observational retrospective cohort study, a total of 70 eyes of 60 consecutive patients with intermediate age-related macular degeneration with a minimum follow-up of 24 months were included. The atrophy was quantified using fundus autofluorescence, also considering the directionality of atrophy as centrifugal and centripetal progression rates.

Increasing evidence suggests that bariatric surgery (BS) patients are at risk for substance abuse disorders (SUD). The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the relationship between BS and the development of new-onset substance abuse disorder (SUDNO) in bariatric patients. On October 31, 2023, we reviewed the scientific literature following PRISMA guidelines.

Posterior Polar Annular Choroidal Dystrophy: Genetic Insights and Differential Diagnosis in Inherited Retinal Diseases.

Posterior polar annular choroidal dystrophy (PPACD) is a rare ocular disorder and presents as symmetric degeneration of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and the underlying choriocapillaris, encircling the retinal vascular arcades and optic disc. This condition distinctively preserves the foveal region, optic disc, and the outermost regions of the retina. Despite its distinct clinical presentation, due to the infrequency of its occurrence and the limited number of reported cases, the pathophysiology, and the genetic foundations of PPACD are still largely uncharted.

Roux en Y gastric bypass and iterative intussusception at the jejuno-jejunal anastomosis: Conversion into one anastomosis gastric bypass (with video) - A case report.

Introduction: The aim of this article is to describe a rare complication of Roux en Y gastric bypass (RYGB): recurrent intestinal intussusception of the biliary limb, and an original treatment: the removal of the jejuno-jejunal anastomosis with conversion into "short limb" one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB).

Presentation Of Case: A 25-year-old patient underwent RYGB fashioned with a 50 cm-length biliary loop and a 150 cm-length alimentary loop. She was hospitalized other 3 times in the following months for episodes of acute abdominal pain and excessive weight loss, with CT scans showing intussusception at the jejuno-jejunal anastomosis.

Introduction: Visceral artery aneurysms (VAA), including gastroduodenal artery aneurysms (GAA), are rare pathologies that can be challenging to diagnose due to their often-asymptomatic nature. The implementation of FIT programs reduces incidence and mortality from CRC in the screened subjects. The ultimate efficacy for CRC morbidity and mortality prevention in a FIT program depends on the colonoscopy in FIT+ subjects that has the task of detecting and removing these advanced lesions. Recently, there has been growing evidence on factors that influence the quality of colonoscopy specifically withing organized FIT programs, prompting to dedicated interventions in order to maximize the benefit/harm ratio of post-FIT colonoscopy.

Multimodal Ophthalmic Imaging in Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 7.

The aim of this case series and narrative literature review is to highlight the importance of multimodal imaging in the ophthalmological examination of patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 and provide a summary of the most relevant imaging techniques. Three patients with SCA7 were included in this case series. A literature review revealed twenty-one publications regarding ocular manifestations of SCA7, and the most relevant aspects are summarized.

This study aimed to evaluate the oncological outcomes of the laparoscopic "no touch" technique versus the "touch" technique.

An Update on Multimodal Ophthalmological Imaging of Diffuse Choroidal Hemangioma in Sturge-Weber Syndrome.

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is characterized by facial port-wine stains, leptomeningeal hemangiomas, and prominent ocular manifestations such as glaucoma and diffuse choroidal hemangiomas (DCHs). Imaging modalities are critical for diagnosing and longitudinally monitoring DCHs in SWS. Fundus photography is fundamental in assessing both eyes simultaneously, fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography effectively map the retinal and choroidal circulation, and ultrasonography offers essential structural insights into the choroid and retina.

Background: The Italian Society of Echocardiography and Cardiovascular Imaging (SIECVI) conducted a national survey to understand better how different echocardiographic modalities are used and accessed in Italy.

Methods: We analyzed echocardiography laboratory activities over a month (November 2022). Data were retrieved via an electronic survey based on a structured questionnaire, uploaded on the SIECVI website.
