Interventional radiology-based imaging is the preferred choice for diagnosis and therapy of many complex diseases, despite possible adverse effects of the radiation exposures. We have measured induced DNA damage and changes in gene expression in relation to entrance surface dose (ESD) in peripheral blood samples of patients (n = 51) who underwent neuro-interventional radiological procedures. The ESD values, measured by thermoluminescence dosimetry, were 4.

Background: The present investigation looks at the most likely possibilities of usage of a naturally occurring photosynthetic pigment, Pheophytin a, from the seagrass, Syringodium isoetifolium, for plausible use as human TSPO ligand.

Methods: Pheophytin a isolated in our laboratory previously was administered to A549 cell lines in vitro to examine its effects on cell migrations, DNA, cell cycle, Mitochondrial Membrane Potential and gene expressions. In silico tools were used to predict the nature of the compound and target binding.

Article Synopsis
  • - The paper discusses the discovery of a unique high molecular weight monorhamnolipid from the bacterium Pseudomonas guganensis, different from the commonly studied di-rhamnolipids, which are usually linked to hydroxydecanoic acids.
  • - Isolation and characterization techniques, including FT-IR, GC-MS, and NMR, were used to analyze the compound, revealing its potential for degrading hydrocarbons like n-hexadecane.
  • - The study suggests that this bacterium creates a circular relationship by using n-hexadecane to produce rhamnolipids, which subsequently helps in further degrading hydrocarbons, indicating its potential as a bioemulsifier for cleaning polluted waters.

Background: In an attempt to reach remote rural areas, this study explores a community-based, pediatric hearing screening program in villages, integrating two models of diagnostic ABR testing; one using a tele-medicine approach and the other a traditional in-person testing at a tertiary care hospital.

Methods: Village health workers (VHWs) underwent a five day training program on conducting Distortion Product Oto Acoustic Emissions (DPOAE) screening and assisting in tele-ABR. VHWs conducted DPOAE screening in 91 villages and hamlets in two administrative units (blocks) of a district in South India.
