A Comparative Study of Two Infant Feeding Tools: The Nifty Cup and The Paladai.

Objective: The World Health Organization recommends that infants unable to feed directly at the breast in low resource settings be cup fed with hand expressed breastmilk. No standard feeding cup exists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the design of the Nifty cup, a newly designed feeding cup, as compared to the paladai and to assess acceptability among mothers and health care providers.

Effect of emotional regulation training on depression, anxiety and stress among the patients with alcohol dependence admitted in selected de-addiction centers at south India.

Background The purpose of the study was to assess the effect of emotional regulation training on depression, anxiety, and stress among patients with alcohol dependence. Depression, anxiety, and stress are very common negative emotions seen in the patients with alcohol dependence which leads to relapse of the condition. The emotional regulation could help the individuals to overcome the negative emotions.

Caregivers' perception of speech and language status and related needs in children with cleft lip and palate.

Background And Purpose: Comprehensive management for communication disorders in individuals with CLP was provided in a community based program in two rural districts in Tamilnadu, India. This program provides services at the community to empower the families about CLP and treatment options.

Objective: To document the caregiver perceptions' of communication status and needs in children with repaired CLP.

Giant tumour of the pterygopalatine fossa.

Neurilemmomas are benign and slow growing tumours. Neurilemmomas of the pterygopalatine fossa are rare. In this paper we present a case of schwannoma arising in the pterygopalatine fossa with extension into infratemporal fossa and floor of the orbit.

Orbital apex syndrome in a child.

A 8-year-old male presented with visual loss, diplopia, ptosis, pain behind the left eye, facial numbness and vomiting of one week duration. The ophthalmological, neurological and radiological examination showed a lesion of the left orbital apex with extension into the cavernous sinus. Examination of the nose and paranasal sinuses did not reveal any abnormality.

Synthesis and cardiac effects of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one-5 carboxylates.

A series of 4-(substituted)-3,4-dihydropyrimidinone derivatives have been synthesized by heating 1,3 dicarbonyl compounds, urea, and aromatic aldehydes in acetic acid under microwave irradiation conditions. The cardiovascular effects of 3,4-dihydropyrimidinones were studied on isolated perfused frog heart at different dose levels and compared with the activity of digoxin. The interaction of 3,4-dihydropyrimidinones with beta-blocker and calcium channel blocker was also investigated.

Antimicrobial activity of Leucas aspera flowers.

The methanol extract of Leucas aspera flowers, its fractions, the alkaloidal residue and the expressed flower juice, tested for antimicrobial activity, showed good antibacterial activity for methanol extract and methanol fraction with maximum activity for the alkaloidal residue.

A case of cleft lip and palate associated with Seckel syndrome.

We report an unusual association of complete cleft of the primary and secondary palate with Seckel syndrome. Seckel syndrome is a very rare syndrome, with only 60 reported cases in the medical literature. It is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by birdlike face, intrauterine growth retardation, dwarfism, and microcephaly.

Recurrent haematuria in coexisting IgA nephropathy and interstitial nephritis.

We report here a case of recurrent hematuria in a young man who presented with deteriorating renal function due to interstitial nephritis, secondary to, probably enteric fever. Immunofluorescence studies showed IgA nephropathy and ultrastructural studies revealed thin basement membrane nephropathy.
