Cancer remains a global health challenge with high prevalence and mortality rates, imposing significant financial and emotional burdens on affected families. However, hope lies in genetic manipulation, with a focus on innovative approaches to combat genetically linked cancers. Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR), an adaptive immune system found in various bacteria and archaea, hold immense potential.

Retrosternal goitre (RSG) is a thyroid gland with more than 50% of its mass located below the thoracic inlet. Pre-operative Computed Tomography can visualise the anatomical relations between the RSG and each mediastinal component, and the level of extension. Most cases of RSG can be resected via the cervical approach, as the thoracic approach carries a greater risk of complications.

The association of voice disorders in laryngeal cancers has been studied extensively; however Dysphonia associated with chemo-radiation in non laryngeal Head and Neck cancer (HNC) is a new area of practice in voice clinics. This study thus aimed to evaluate the efficacy of voice rehabilitation among non-laryngeal HNC survivors who were treated with curative RadioTherapy (RT)/Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in adjunct with or without surgery. This tertiary institutional assessor blinded quasi experimental study after inclusion and exclusion criteria consisted of a study cohort of 128 patients who within 1-3 months of completion of treatment for HNC reported to the laryngology clinic for voice complaints and throat discomfort.

Article Synopsis
  • Effective prevention of keratoconus progression in children is essential, with corneal collagen cross-linking emerging as a safe and effective treatment, particularly through the Dresden protocol.
  • While the Dresden protocol is successful, it has downsides like longer operating times and pain; alternatives like accelerated CXL and transepithelial treatments offer benefits but vary in effectiveness.

Common copy number variations often contain cancer-related genes and are likely to play a role in carcinogenesis. Different mechanisms of tumorigenesis are suggested in female and male breast cancer because of different molecular profiles. The cytogenetic analysis of GTG-banded chromosomes was performed in six male patients with infiltrating ductal carcinoma and six healthy male controls matched for age.

Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the potential association of VEGF-116G/A promoter polymorphism with esophageal cancer risk in North-West Indians and to perform a comprehensive meta-analysis of VEGF-116G/A polymorphism in Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) cancers.

Methods: A total of 679 DNA samples (333 esophageal cancer patients and 346 healthy controls) were genotyped for VEGF-116G/A polymorphism using Sanger sequencing. In silico analysis was carried out to predict the impact of VEGF-116G/A polymorphism on transcription factor binding sites.

It's very important to demarcate that voice is the production of sound by the larynx while speech is articulation of the produced sound by tongue movements, soft palate and the lips. Mucositis, dysphagia, change in speech and voice are the common sequelae of Radiotherapy (RT) alone or in combination with chemotherapy (CRT) which is commonly used in the treatment of head and neck cancer (HNC). The aim of this study was to investigate the patient-reported voice impairment among non laryngeal head and neck cancer survivors who were treated with curative RT/CRT with or without surgery.

Iron is an important nutrient and it plays a pivotal role in myelin formation and neurotransmitter synthesis, thus contributing to normal neurological activity. Ferritin is a reliable indicator of the tissue iron stores and in-utero stores can be well measured by cord ferritin levels. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of umbilical cord ferritin levels (CFL) on the brain stem evoked response audiometry (BERA) This prospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary care centre of North India with a sample size of 100 inborn neonates.

The objective is to study factors that increase the likelihood of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in hospitalized adult non-elderly patients with pneumonia compared to other medical inpatients and to understand the utilization rate of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for AMI in inpatients with pneumonia and its related impact on hospitalization stay and cost. A population-based study was conducted using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS, 2019) with adult non-elderly inpatients (age 18-65 years) with a medical condition as their primary diagnosis and a co-diagnosis of pneumonia during hospitalization stay. This study sample was divided by the primary diagnosis of AMI versus other medical conditions (non-AMI).

Background: In India, neonatal mortality contributes to over 64% of infant deaths, mostly occurring during the first week of life.
