Blood donors and voluntary blood donations are essential for ensuring the blood supply that can be maintained by good patient blood management (PBM) practices. This review article explores the role of blood donation in PBM and highlights the importance of donor screening and selection processes in different regions worldwide. The donor health questionnaires and the focused physical examination guidelines have changed in the last decade to increase donor and recipient safety.

Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Random Omental Fine Needle Aspiration: A Novel Technique for the Diagnosis of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis.

Background/aims: Diagnostic abdominal paracentesis has been described in literature to have variable sensitivity of 50%-75% for the detection of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). We believe that random needle aspirates from the omentum, even in the absence of obvious deposits by endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), could prove malignancy in patients with PC.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura in a patient with disseminated tuberculosis: An unusual presentation.

Pulmonary tuberculosis can have a wide variety of presentations including hematological manifestations. We report a case of a young male patient who presented with complaints of generalized petechiae, gum bleeding, systemic lymphadenopathy, and severe thrombocytopenia. His bone marrow revealed normal megakaryocytes, and in the absence of hepatosplenomegaly, a diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) was made.

A Single Center Experience of Pediatric Tracheostomy.

The feasibility and safety of pediatric tracheostomy care at home by parents is challenging. Many physicians are not confident of sending tracheostomized children home. We describe our experience with 12 children who underwent tracheostomy and were sent home.

Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock Associated with Chikungunya Fever in an Adolescent.

Chikungunya is usually a benign disease, and little is known on the occurrence of severe clinical complications. We describe a 12-year-old boy with rapid onset septic shock and multi-organ failure associated with chikungunya fever. Severe sepsis and septic shock can be associated with chikungunya.

The prevalence of elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in normal pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus.

Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in normal pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and to compare the prevalence in both groups.

Association of thyroid peroxidase antibody and dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroidism.

Context: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is stated as mild thyroid failure, is more common as compared to overt hypothyroidism, is associated with different biochemical abnormalities such as dyslipidemia, and is also having high conversion rate into overt hypothyroidism in patients having thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibody positive. Lipid abnormalities are controversial in SCH and there is lack of Indian studies showing correlation between lipid abnormalities and TPO positivity in SCH. Hence, we did this study to find the TPO positivity and associated dyslipidemia in SCH patients.
