Immediate and Short-Term Effect of Scapula Retraction Exercises on Subacromial Space: Do We Have Enough Evidence in Patients With Subacromial Pain?

Context: Limited information exists regarding the immediate and short-term effects of scapula retraction exercises (SREs) on acromiohumeral distance (AHD) in subacromial pain syndrome (SPS). This study's 2 main objectives were to investigate (1) the immediate effect of the SRE on AHD at varying shoulder abduction angles in patients with SPS and healthy controls and (2) the effect of the 8-week SRE program on AHD in patients with SPS.

Design: Cross-sectional and pre-post intervention designs were utilized on this study.

Comparative Evaluation of Treatment Outcomes of Revision Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using Allograft and Semitendinosus Autograft.

The number of revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (RACLR) procedures is increasing in proportion to the increase in the number of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) procedures. Although approximately 50-75% of these procedures can be performed in a single-stage procedure, not all of them can. The choice of graft may influence the results of RACLR.

Deep learning algorithms enable MRI-based scapular morphology analysis with values comparable to CT-based assessments.

Scapular morphological attributes show promise as prognostic indicators of retear following rotator cuff repair. Current evaluation techniques using single-slice magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI) are, however, prone to error, while more accurate computed tomography (CT)-based three-dimensional techniques, are limited by cost and radiation exposure. In this study we propose deep learning-based methods that enable automatic scapular morphological analysis from diagnostic MRI despite the anisotropic resolution and reduced field of view, compared to CT.

The ARCR_Pred study was initiated to document and predict the safety and effectiveness of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) in a representative Swiss patient cohort. In the present manuscript, we aimed to describe the overall and baseline characteristics of the study, report on functional outcome data and explore case-mix adjustment and differences between public and private hospitals. Between June 2020 and November 2021, primary ARCR patients were prospectively enrolled in a multicenter cohort across 18 Swiss and one German orthopedic center.

Duplication of the Plantaris Tendon and Its Clinical Significance: A Case Report.

The plantaris tendon may be absent in some individuals, indicating its unclear function. Anatomically, the plantaris tendon originates from the lateral femoral condyle and has a variable course and insertion point at the calcaneal tuberosity. The plantaris tendon may influence conditions such as Achilles tendinopathy, particularly in its midportion, whether by its close relation to the calcaneal tendon or adhesions between both tendons.

Surgical Outcomes of Lateral Ulnar Collateral Ligament Reconstruction Versus Repair for Posterolateral Rotatory Instability of the Elbow: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background: The aim of surgical treatment for posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI) of the elbow is to restore the integrity of the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL), with ligamentous reconstruction being the preferred option for recurrent symptomatic PLRI. Therefore, the present scoping review aimed to explore and map the reporting practices and methodological quality in recent RCTs published in the () journal, focusing on identifying gaps in adherence to reporting guidelines and transparency.

Arthroscopic Bankart Repair Using 1 Anterior Portal Has a Shorter Surgical Time and Comparable Clinical Results With the Standard 2-Portal Technique.

Purpose: To assess the modified 1 anterior portal Bankart repair and compare it to the 2-portal Bankart repair in terms of surgical time, functional scores, and recurrent dislocation.

Methods: Patients who underwent Bankart repair from 2014 to 2021 were identified and separated into 2 groups: a modified 1 anterior portal group and a 2 anterior portal group. The inclusion criteria were being >18 years old, having a recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation with a Bankart lesion, and having a minimum 2-year follow-up.

Subjective Functional Outcomes of Single-Bundle Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction With Different Femoral Tunnel Positions Arthroscopy.

Objective To compare the five-year subjective functional outcomes of single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with three different femoral tunnel positions under arthroscopic guidance. Minimizing Unnecessary Harvesting of an Extremely Thin Gracilis Tendon During ACL Reconstruction by Referencing the Diameter of the Doubled Semitendinosus Tendon Alone.

Background: The incidence of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) graft failure is inversely related to the diameter of the ACLR graft. When the diameter of a 4-stranded hamstring tendon graft with a doubled semitendinosus and doubled gracilis tendon (ST×2 + G×2) configuration is <8 mm, the gracilis tendon is often thin.

Hypothesis: (1) The diameter of the doubled semitendinosus tendon (ST×2) alone would be able to predict the probability of a 4-stranded ACLR graft having a diameter of ≥8 mm, and (2) there would be a specific cutoff value for the ST×2 diameter such that the addition of a doubled gracilis tendon (G×2) will not result in a 4-stranded graft with a ≥8-mm diameter.

Assessing Residual Moisture After Sterilization as an Overlooked Source of Intraoperative Bacterial Contamination in Knee Intra-articular Reconstructions: Evaluating the Reliability of Routine Procedures and Tests.

Background: Contamination of sterilized surgical instruments is not a typically suspected source of increased infection rate, especially if no abnormalities in the sterilization process are detected.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to report increased infection rates after knee ligament reconstructions due to undetectable sterilization process errors leading to residual moisture, not limited to a specific surgical tool. It was hypothesized that (1) residual moisture on surgical tools due to autoclave overloading would not be detected by autoclave self-diagnostics, chemical and biological tests, or organoleptic assessment and (2) this kind of contamination may elevate infection rates, especially in knee intra-articular reconstruction procedures.

Downregulation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR/MMP-13 pathway for promoting interface healing via lubricating microspheres.

Interface friction impedes tissue healing and stimulates interface cells to produce matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs); however, the precise mechanisms underlying matrix degradation, and the formation of fibrous scars remain unclear. This research involved the development of interface lubricating microspheres that inhibit the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in tenocytes. This inhibition significantly decreased MMP-13 expression and increased COL-1 production, thereby facilitating interface repair and regeneration.
