Importance: Elite-level contact sport participation is associated with increased dementia risk, which may be attributable to sport-related traumatic brain injury and repetitive head impact exposure. However, the contribution of wider, potentially modifiable dementia risk factors remains uncertain.
Objective: To explore the association of potentially modifiable dementia risk factors with dementia risk among former professional soccer players.

Simultaneous bilateral proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are infrequent. Particularly rare are cases of PHFs extending to the metadiaphysis accompanied by severe osteoarthritis (OA) of the shoulder. To our knowledge, there have been no reports of bilateral fractures that include metadiaphyseal fractures with severe OA on one side and a PHF on the contralateral side, treated with bilateral reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).

Musculoskeletal disorders are a significant global health concern, affecting over 1.71 billion individuals worldwide, with a considerable impact on quality of life and economic burden due to healthcare costs and productivity losses. In the United Kingdom, approximately one-third of the population suffers from musculoskeletal disorders, underscoring the need for effective diagnostic and management strategies.

Purpose: The Achilles tendon is a common injury site, but anatomical risk factors for injury are relatively unexplored in the literature. This study aimed to evaluate whether changes in free tendon length would influence the results of a simulated rupture of the Achilles tendon.
Methods: Using a previously validated 3D finite element model of the free and aponeurotic Achilles tendon as a basis, two additional finite element models with 25% decreased and increased free tendon lengths were created.

: Although the indications for reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) are expanding, an improvement in muscle strength in each patient following RSA remains unclear. The objective was to investigate whether or not improvement in muscle strength for shoulder elevation in patients who underwent RSA was influenced by pre- or postoperative deltoid muscle stiffness measured using shear wave elastography (SWE). : Sixty-five patients who underwent RSA over a 12-month follow-up period were included.

Background: There is concern that physiologic knee hyperextension may be associated with inferior outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using hamstring tendon (HT) autografts.
Purpose: To assess whether there is an association between contralateral passive preoperative knee hyperextension (≤-5°) and postoperative anterior knee laxity, subjective knee function, or revision surgery after ACLR using HT autografts.
Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

Previous work has demonstrated the protective effect of shoe cushioning on injury risk in leisure-time runners, but most models currently available on the market have greater cushioning than those investigated so far. Also, the optimal level of cushioning and the role of cushioning on the forepart of the shoe for injury prevention are still unknown. The main aim of this study is to determine whether (1) current 'extra soft' cushioning material at the rear part of the shoe reduces injury risk compared with stiffer material and (2) cushioning under the forepart of the shoe also contributes to injury risk reduction.

Background: The purpose of this study was to clarify the differences in the movement of the superficial microchambers and deep macrochambers of the heel fat pad during loading and unloading movements, and to clarify the influence of height and weight on this movement.
Methods: The subjects were 21 healthy adults. The right foot was placed on an evaluation instrument stand made of polymethylpentene (PMP) resin plate, and the left foot was placed on a scale stand used to adjust the amount of load.

Purpose: The purpose of the present scoping review is to identify sources of heterogeneity in reporting domains that have the potential to improve surgical decision-making in reverse shoulder arthroplasty associated with glenoid bone grafting.
Methods: A scoping review was conducted according to the JBI and PRISMA ScR guidelines. Articles covering glenoid bone grafting at the time of reverse shoulder replacement, published between 2012 and 2022 in MEDLINE, Scopus, Epistemonikos, Web of Science, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, were searched.

The purpose of this study is to histologically examine the pubic plate structure in cadavers with and without the cleft sign on MRI, shedding light on the pathology behind the cleft sign.

Background: Despite the increasing use of revision reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA), studies directly comparing revision RTSA performed for different failed index procedures are limited. We therefore compared the results of revision RTSA between patients with a failed primary anatomic arthroplasty (total shoulder arthroplasty and hemiarthroplasty) and those with a failed primary RTSA to explore revision of which index procedure resulted in better long-term clinical outcomes.
Methods: In this prospective, multicenter, observational study, patients underwent revision RTSA using an inverted-bearing prosthesis.

: Evaluations allowing patients to return to sport (RTS) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) should be multimodal, including a psychological evaluation. The goal of this study was to determine if there is a correlation between the ACL-return to sport after injury (ACL-RSI) score at 6 months post-ACLR and mid-term functional results. : A total of 498 patients were assessed 6 months after primary ACLR using a composite test including isokinetics, hops, and ACL-RSI.

Background: Kickboxing is a popular striking combat sport, and K-1 is a type of kickboxing. Direct head blows can cause significant long-term injury and affect brain wave activity.
Objectives: We aim to compare the changes in brain wave activities of fighters during a K-1 kickboxing contest to those in a control group, who were striking a punching bag and were not hit by another K-1 athlete.

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) is increasingly being used as a reliable option for various shoulder disorders with deteriorated rotator cuff and glenohumeral joints. The stemless humerus component for shoulder arthroplasties is evolving with theoretical advantages, such as preservation of the humeral bone stock and decreased risk of periprosthetic fractures, as well as clinical research demonstrating less intraoperative blood loss, reduced surgical time, a lower rate of intraoperative fractures, and improved center of rotation restoration. In particular, for anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA), the utilization of stemless humeral implants is gaining consensus in younger patients.

Background: Identification of the relationship between valgus stress in the medial elbow and ulnar nerve strain during maximum external rotation of the shoulder is pivotal for the prevention and management of ulnar neuropathies. In this observational cross-sectional study, we aimed to determine the changes in ulnar nerve stiffness under valgus stress at different nerve entrapment sites.
