To investigate the effect of laparoscopic splenectomy and azygoportal disconnection (LSD) on liver synthesis and development of liver cirrhosis. This is a prospective case series study. The clinical data of liver cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension who received LSD at the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital Affiliated to Yangzhou University from September 2014 to January 2016 were included.

Sleeve gastrectomy is the most commonly performed bariatric surgery, with a relatively high safety profile. Splenic rupture following portomesenteric vein thrombosis after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a rare life-threatening complication. A morbidly obese 38-year-old female patient presented with acute onset abdominal pain 13 days after a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Background: Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is one of the potentially serious complications after gastrectomy for gastric cancer (GC). Drain amylase level is a predictor of POPF in open and laparoscopic gastrectomy, but no study has focused on minimally invasive surgery (MIS), including robotic gastrectomy (RG). This study assesses the effect of drain amylase levels for POPF in MIS and develop a prediction model in the MIS era.

Background: Portal vein system thrombosis (PVST) is a frequent and possibly fatal concurrent disorder following splenectomy. The optimal anticoagulant to prevent PVST following splenectomy remains unclear.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the safety and efficacy of apixaban versus aspirin in preventing PVST after laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) for cirrhotic hypersplenism.

Splenic hemangioma is the most common pathological classification of splenic tumors, and its surgical indication and treatment have been controversial. Before, open splenectomy was usually used to treat splenic hemangioma. Following the rapid development of laparoscopic techniques, people's requirements for minimally invasive treatment have gradually increased, and laparoscopic splenectomy has gradually become the main treatment method.

A splenic artery pseudoaneurysm (SAP) is a rare vascular entity that is becoming increasingly recognized as a potential complication of bariatric surgery. This is a case of a 36-year-old woman brought by ambulance to a regional emergency department with abdominal pain, collapse, and gross haemodynamic instability 2 years post-laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. She received aggressive resuscitation in the emergency department but could not be stabilized and so underwent an emergency laparotomy.

Introduction: Laparoscopic subtotal splenectomy (LSS) is a procedure that helps avoid the consequences of asplenia. Given the spleen's importance and functionality, there may be specific indications and patient conditions in which partial splenectomy is beneficial. This case report aims to clarify the indications for LSS and outline the surgical technique.

Background: Splenectomy indications are well documented; however, several infectious complications and potentially life-threatening conditions could arise after splenectomy. We aim to describe a 20-year single-center experience of postoperative outcomes after splenectomy and perform a subgroup analysis according to approach and surgical setting with a 30-day, 90-day, and 1-year follow-up.
Study Design: A retrospective cohort study was conducted between 2003 and 2023.

Introduction: The effectiveness of laparoscopic repair for recurrent inguinal hernias has been previously reported; however, recurrence following bilayer mesh use has rarely been reported. We report a case of successful total laparoscopic repair of a recurrent inguinal hernia of the bladder in which a bilayer mesh was used for the initial direct inguinal hernia.
Presentation Of Case: An 80-year-old man underwent hernia repair using a bilayer mesh for a right direct hernia 12 years ago.

Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) patients encounter various complications, such as acute splenic sequestration crisis and hypersplenism that may require splenectomy. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to clarify differences between total splenectomy (TS) or partial splenectomy (PS) in terms of hematological and postoperative outcomes.
Methods: We identified studies involving SCD patients who underwent PS or TS, whether open or laparoscopic, and whose hematological and operative outcomes were evaluated, through searching PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane databases from inception until June 2024.

Introduction: Sleeve gastrectomy is a common bariatric procedure to manage morbid obesity. Splenic injury such as splenic rupture after sleeve gastrectomy is a rare complication which can be treated both with a splenectomy or conservative approach, called spleen-preserving surgery.
Patients And Methods: A 42-year old male, in whom we performed a sleeve gastrectomy, presented with splenic rupture, within 48 h postoperative, for which spleen-preserving surgery was performed.

Introduction: While laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) has been widely used in benign splenic tumor, more concerns have been raised for postoperatively short-term and long-term complications. Laparoscopic partial splenectomy (LPS) is a surgical option, to preserve splenic function, and reduce postoperative complications. The aim of our study was to retrospectively identify the safety and feasibility of LPS compared with LS in patients with splenic benign tumor.

Coccidioides is a fungus endemic to the Southwestern United States, known for causing Valley Fever. While typically asymptomatic or presenting as a respiratory tract infection, rare cases of disseminated infection to the peritoneum have been reported. The patient in this case study presented with a small bowel obstruction, requiring an exploratory laparoscopy showing evidence of an inflammatory mass with a jejuna-colic fistula with adherence to the spleen.

Background: Splenic cysts are relatively rare benign tumors that are asymptomatic in most patients and are usually discovered incidentally by imaging. In our case, we report a splenic cyst in a child who underwent laparoscopic partial splenectomy.
Case Description: A 13-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital after an incidental finding of a splenic cyst on an abdominal ultrasound conducted 4 days prior.

Hypersplenism, although a rare hematological complication seen in chronic kidney disease patients, poses a significant challenge for successful kidney transplantation due to potential complications such as cytopenias and inadequate immunosuppressive therapy. We present a 40-year old end-stage kidney disease patient on dialysis with hypersplenism who underwent a laparoscopic splenectomy prior to high immunological risk renal transplantation. Post-splenectomy, there was a remarkable improvement in cytopenias, and effective immunosuppressive therapy could be administered prior to renal transplantation.
