[Interpretation of visual field with Humphrey Zeiss Analyser].

In the beginning of the article where are defined the notions of the soft of automated perimetry: threshold, kind of tests, the strategy of automated perimetry. Then are shown the steps of automated perimetry interpretation: kind of test and strategy, evaluation of patient reliability, interpretation of the visual field defects (artifacts or no) and statistical analysis.

[Clinical and therapy features of ocular toxoplasmosis in patients with HIV-AIDS infection].

Four cases of AIDS have been observed in witch has been recognized the ocular toxoplasmosis (two at children and two at adults). It was watched the evolution under treatment of the lesions caused by the parasite and it was appreciated the efficiency of the therapy.

[Secondary cataract; correlations concerning lens surgery and pseudophakia type. Therapeutic aspects].

The study presents the correlations concerning the advent of the secondary cataract depending on the surgical technique and pseudofak type (PMMA, acrylic, siliconic), as well the safety and efficacy of the YAG: Nd capsulotomy. A 3 years clinical retrospective trial was done on 320 eyes operated for senile cataract. The incidence of the secondary cataract was 11.

[Therapeutical, and evolutive particular aspects in cataract surgery].

Even if the ophthalmic surgeons are concentrated, most of the time, on the surgery, they have to remember all other aspects related with the general status of the patient, because these could influence the ultimate visual outcome. The paper presents some cases of cataract operated in our Clinic, having particular aspects: clinical, therapeutical and evolutive aspects. In these cases, the coexisting diseases of the patients have requested special diagnostic procedures, anti-infectious prophylaxis, special postoperative management or laser treatments.

[Ocular injuries due to allergic mechanism].

The paper presents the main ocular injuries due to allergic mechanism and it point out the actual data about etiopathogenesis of type 1 hypersensitivity and immunologic mechanism involved in allergic keratoconjunctivitis. Then are exposed the classification of ocular allergy, the main signs and symptoms, the paraclinical methods of diagnosis and the actual agents of therapy.

[Premature elevated intraocular pressure after cataract surgery].

We evaluated the frequency of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) the first 1-3 postoperative days for a group of patients undergoing standard or phacoemulsification extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE). IOP was measured in the pre and postoperative period using non-contact tonometer. From the 356 operated patients, 21 patients (6%) had early elevated IOP.

[Post-traumatic glaucoma].

This paper presents theoretical aspects concerning the physiopathological mechanisms involved in producing the glaucoma following trauma, especially the lens related glaucoma, correct identification of the ethiopathogeny of the intraocular pressure elevation in this situation is essential for the appropriate management. These aspects are illustrated by two cases of recent glaucoma following trauma lens related (lens subluxation) treated by medication and surgery. The surgical procedure consisted of intracapsular extraction of the lens, anterior vitrectomy, iridectomy and implantation of sulcus sutured posterior chamber lens.

[Optical coherence tomography in surgical management of macular diseases].

Optical coherence tomography is a new imagistic technique recently introduced in ophthalmology. It is useful for diagnosis of macular diseases and it is extremely important in the management of those surgical ones. The most suitable diseases for postoperative evaluation by optical coherence tomography are: macular holes, epi and subretinal membranes, macular edema of diverse etiology and severe proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

[Corticosteroids in ophthalmology].

Within ophthalmology there are many indications for the use of corticosteroids, but the decision to institute steroid therapy always requires careful considerations of the relative risks and benefits in each patient. This review considers the mechanisms of action, the ocular and non-ocular problems encountered when steroids are used, with practical suggestions to minimise their side effects and the therapeutic options for clinical use.

[Penetrating ocular trauma--therapeutic approach].

The most important factor for functional and anatomic prognosis of an injured eye is the appropriate emergency assistance. This paper presents a case of penetrating ocular trauma with minor clinical sings which associates severe lesions of posterior pole discovered intraoperatively. Careful history and clinical examination allowed the best surgical management, with complete anatomical and functional recovery of the eye.

[Myopic peripheral retinal degenerations].

The article shows periferical retinal degenerations which appear in myopia. The places, the ophthalmoscopical aspect and histopathological aspect of each retinal change and the complications that may appear are presented. In the end some principles of treatment are presented.

[Ophthalmologic involvement of intracranial tumors--report of a case].

Bilateral papillary edema is considered to be the expression of a tumoral process that reduces the intracranial space resulting in elevation of the intracranial cerebrospinal fluid pressure. The authors present the case of a 21-year-old man consulting for mild visual loss of the left eye. The ophthalmologic examination showed bilateral papilledema and visual field defects in the left eye (enlargement of the blind spot), with no clinic or imagistic signs of increased intracranial pressure.

[Conjunctival intraepithelial carcinoma, recurrent after surgical excision--case report].

The malignant epithelial tumors of the sclerocorneal limbus are rare. The paper reports a case of an intraepithelial carcinoma, operated and relapsed, the therapeutics solution and the postsurgery evolution after six months.

[Left temporal arachnoid cyst].

Ocular onset is seldom for an arachnoid cyst. We present the case of a young man whose only symptom when hospitalized, was the unilateral peripheral field contraction. It was afterwards specified the presence of the arachnoid cyst and it's pathogenic feature, the compression of the optic nerve.

[Posttraumatic posterior lens luxation].

This paper presents a few theoretical considerations about the posttraumatic posterior luxation of the nucleus. We discuss the evolution and surgical treatment of a clinical case, and we remark once more that the posterior luxation of the nucleus is considered to be an delayed surgical emergency.

[Total rhegmatogenous retinal detachment - late postoperative complication].

This paper presents the case of a pacient operated for organized hemoftalmus after central retinal vein thrombosis (total vitrectomy) and whom five days after surgery a macular hole was observed and internal indendation with gas was performed. Postoperative evolution was good. Two months after surgery the pacient returns with cvasitotal regmatogen retinal detachment.

[Immunology and immunopathology of corneal graft].

The article shows the immune reaction against an allograft, specially against a corneal graft. Then are shown the mechanism of graft rejection and the posibilities of immunologic treatment of this complication of keratoplasty.
