Four cases of AIDS have been observed in witch has been recognized the ocular toxoplasmosis (two at children and two at adults). Even if the ophthalmic surgeons are concentrated, most of the time, on the surgery, they have to remember all other aspects related with the general status of the patient, because these could influence the ultimate visual outcome. The paper presents some cases of cataract operated in our Clinic, having particular aspects: clinical, therapeutical and evolutive aspects. In these cases, the coexisting diseases of the patients have requested special diagnostic procedures, anti-infectious prophylaxis, special postoperative management or laser treatments.

IOP was measured in the pre and postoperative period using non-contact tonometer. From the 356 operated patients, 21 patients (6%) had early elevated IOP.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThis paper presents theoretical aspects concerning the physiopathological mechanisms involved in producing the glaucoma following trauma, especially the lens related glaucoma, correct identification of the ethiopathogeny of the intraocular pressure elevation in this situation is essential for the appropriate management. These aspects are illustrated by two cases of recent glaucoma following trauma lens related (lens subluxation) treated by medication and surgery. The surgical procedure consisted of intracapsular extraction of the lens, anterior vitrectomy, iridectomy and implantation of sulcus sutured posterior chamber lens.

It is useful for diagnosis of macular diseases and it is extremely important in the management of those surgical ones. The most suitable diseases for postoperative evaluation by optical coherence tomography are: macular holes, epi and subretinal membranes, macular edema of diverse etiology and severe proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Within ophthalmology there are many indications for the use of corticosteroids, but the decision to institute steroid therapy always requires careful considerations of the relative risks and benefits in each patient. This review considers the mechanisms of action, the ocular and non-ocular problems encountered when steroids are used, with practical suggestions to minimise their side effects and the therapeutic options for clinical use.

The most important factor for functional and anatomic prognosis of an injured eye is the appropriate emergency assistance. This paper presents a case of penetrating ocular trauma with minor clinical sings which associates severe lesions of posterior pole discovered intraoperatively. Careful history and clinical examination allowed the best surgical management, with complete anatomical and functional recovery of the eye.

The authors present the case of a 21-year-old man consulting for mild visual loss of the left eye. The ophthalmologic examination showed bilateral papilledema and visual field defects in the left eye (enlargement of the blind spot), with no clinic or imagistic signs of increased intracranial pressure.

Ocular onset is seldom for an arachnoid cyst. We present the case of a young man whose only symptom when hospitalized, was the unilateral peripheral field contraction. It was afterwards specified the presence of the arachnoid cyst and it's pathogenic feature, the compression of the optic nerve.

This paper presents the case of a pacient operated for organized hemoftalmus after central retinal vein thrombosis (total vitrectomy) and whom five days after surgery a macular hole was observed and internal indendation with gas was performed. Postoperative evolution was good. Two months after surgery the pacient returns with cvasitotal regmatogen retinal detachment.
