Suppurative head and neck infections of odontogenic origin are the most frequent type of head and neck infections. According to the literature, 7-10% of all antibiotics are currently prescribed for their treatment. Since penicillin was invented, the overall antibiotic sensitivity and resistance pattern of the isolated pathogenic microflora has continuously changed.

The descriptive and prospective study that covered the period January 2008 - October 2010 aimed to determine the existing relationship between the dyspnoea degree, the 6 minutes walking test and the degree of severity of COPD patients, evaluated against GOLD stages.
Method And Subjects: In a sample of 105 eligible COPD patients, aged 44 to 65, we measured the degree of severity of COPD using GOLD staging, mMRC dyspnea scale and 6MWT.
Background: To describe the characteristics of patients with tuberculosis (TB) requiring intensive care and to identify the risk factors for mortality.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective, cohort study, between January 2006 and December 2009. The patients with TB, admitted in Pneumology Clinic Hospital, Iasi, requiring advanced life support in intensive care unit (ICU), were included.
Introduction: The alarming increase of cases of tuberculosis with resistant germs renders compulsory the orientation towards rapid and cheap methods that would allow large-scale testing of mycobacterial strains.
Aim: Evaluation of the performances of two phenotypic methods for mycobacteria sensitivity testing. nitrate reductase and absolute concentrations.
Aim: To evaluate clinical manifestations of Aspergillus infections in our pulmonology practice.
Methods: Between 2002-2009, we assessed retrospectively and prospectively, Aspergillus related diseases in patients admitted in Clinical Hospital of Pneumology from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Positive diagnosis was based on identification of Aspergillus speciae (A spp) on Sabouraud medium, pathological, or immunological proves.

This paper is a retrospective study based on a group of 62 patients with sternal fractures (SF), selected from a group of 637 patients presented in our unit with thoracic trauma between 1997 and 2004. The aim of this study is to evaluate SF from the epidemiological, etiopathogenic, diagnostic and therapeutic point of view. The incidence of SF was 12.

Aim: To detect risk factors associated with osteoporosis, on two samples of patients investigated using ultrasonic osteo-densitometry method (UOD).
Objectives: To found out the relation between anthropometrical data, factors which describe lifestyle of personal pathologic antecedents and T score obtained after UOD, as well as their classification.
Material And Methods: The epidemiological and imaging assessments were carried out on two samples of 364 persons from general population (the A sample), and 144 (the B sample), respectively.

Aim: to evaluate the effects of a dry salt inhaler in adults with COPD (stages II and III).
Method: All 35 patients were under correct treatment according to GOLD guidelines for at least two weeks prior to the start of the study. The patients were given dry salt inhalers (which generated dry 1-5 microm NaCl particles) and were asked to use them up to 30 minutes per day.

Unlabelled: Multifactorial disease, osteoporosis manifests as a "silent epidemics" characterized by the aggregation of the risk factors, the distribution of which has regional peculiarities.
Aim: To determine the demographic, anthropometric, and life style-related factors in relation with T score obtained by measurement of bone mineral density, and the quantification of the detected factors for a correct monitoring of the surveyed population.
Material And Method: The descriptive study was carried out in a series of 364 individuals who underwent outpatient osteodensitometry and were interviewed according to a questionnaire.

Capture-recapture is a statistical method for determining, by means of a probabilistic calculation, the number of individuals with a certain characteristic in a population. Underestimation of the incidence of different diseases is currently an important epidemiological issue. In these circumstances, any disease monitoring system should be formally evaluated under the aspect of accuracy.

Recovery in COPD includes, as a mandatory stage, the patient's nutritional evaluation, followed by the necessary therapeutic indications. Weight loss has negative effects on the skeletal muscle mass, therefore a kinetic program, without being supported by the appropriate therapy, has a much lower effect. Recent studies show a beneficial effect generated by a high intake of vitamin C, vitamin E, omega-3 fat acid and nutritional supplements.

Material And Methods: We processed 193 selected specimens (156 as control and 37 from silicotuberculosis patients). All specimens have been processed for microscopic examination, culture on Löwenstein Jensen media and in Middlebrook7H9 liquid media in automatic system MB/BacT Sputum, bronchial aspirate and tongue swab had been previously decontaminated, but aseptically obtained specimens not, before inoculation onto the culture media.
Resistance to isoniazid is the consequence of mutation in some genes or genomic sequences. One of them is katG gene, which encode catalase-peroxidase. The activity of this enzyme can be revealed by simultaneous test catalase-peroxidase.

Although its real incidence is not clearly established, malignant pleural effusions is one of the more common problems that internists, pneumologists and oncologists face in their daily practice. Because the patients are already terminally ill, it is important to obtain a diagnosis expeditiously and formulate a treatment plan that optimizes quality of life.

The paper reports on the indications and results obtained, in the study of 224 autonomous or associated pleural pulmonary decortications. The decortication is aimed at removing the chronic pleural sack and the possible parenchymatous lesions and at the recovery of the maximum functional pulmonary parenchyma. For the recently chronic cases, the authors suggest the early surgical indication; the pleural pulmonary decortication is better achieved technically and gives better lesional and functional results if it is made earlier; the optimum operatory moment of the decortication superimposes on the moment of chronicization of the pleural sack (2-6 months).

The authors study the infection risk (IR) in the Iaşi County, between 1983 and 1987, at the age of 6-7 years old, in relation to the evolution of tuberculosis incidence in children and to the bacillary incidence and prevalence. TR was maintained, in the period of study, at about 0.90%, thus corresponding to the bacillary incidence on the territory, on average of 39% inhabitants.
