Objectives: The Magna Ease aortic valve (Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, CA) is a third-generation bioprosthetic valve developed as a modification of the well-studied Perimount and Magna valve designs. This study's objective is to evaluate a large, single-centre experience with Magna Ease aortic valve replacement (AVR) focusing on clinical outcomes and haemodynamic performance.
Methods: All patients undergoing AVR between 8/2010 and 10/2018 at our institution implanted with the Magna Ease valve were included except those undergoing ventricular assist device or congenital aortic surgery.

Objective: Graves' disease is an autoimmune thyroid disease that is thought to develop following environmental exposure in patients with genetic predisposition. Our objective is to present the first report of Graves' disease onset immediately following recovery from mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a close temporal occurrence that should be studied further.
Methods: We describe the clinical course and laboratory features, including thyroid function studies, antibody testing, and polymerase chain reaction testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

Traumatic tension pneumocephalus and orbital compartment syndrome are rare, tend to be associated with severe craniofacial injuries, and can occur following both blunt and penetrating injury. Early recognition and high index of clinical suspicion are important in both cases. Emergency decompression results in improvement in vast majority of cases.

Introduction: Motorcycles are colloquially referred to as "donorcycles" among medical staff. However, the actual impact of helmet laws and helmet use on organ donation is unknown. Michigan's 35-year-old universal helmet law (UHL) was repealed in April 2012 and replaced by a partial-helmet law.

Background: Graduating competent surgical residents requires progressive independence during training. Recent studies in other surgical subspecialties have demonstrated overall fewer opportunities for resident independence due to changes in residency regulations, medical-legal concerns, and financial incentives. A survey study was conducted to assess perceived autonomy and preparedness during plastic surgery residency training and to assess factors affecting autonomy.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the rate and clinical yield of computed tomography (CT) imaging between patients presenting with abdominal pain initially seen by a physician in triage (PIT) versus those seen only by physicians working in the main emergency department (ED).
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted of all self-arrivals >18 years old presenting to a single ED with abdominal pain. Nine-hundred patients were randomly selected from both the PIT and traditional patient flow groups and rates and yields of CT imaging were compared, both alone and in a model controlling for potential confounders.

Background: Reduced body weight at the time of intensive care unit (ICU) admission is associated with worse survival, and a paradoxical benefit of obesity has been suggested in critical illness. However, no research has addressed the survival effects of disaggregated body constituents of dry weight such as skeletal muscle, fat, and bone density.
Methods: Single-center, prospective observational cohort study of medical ICU (MICU) patients from an academic institution in the USA.

Decompressive craniectomy is an increasingly implemented intervention for relief of intracranial hypertension refractory to medical therapy. Despite its therapeutic benefit, a myriad of short and long-term complications may arise when the once fixed-volume cranial vault remains decompressed. The authors present a case of recurrent Syndrome of the Trephined in a patient undergoing repeated craniectomy and cranioplasty.

Background And Objectives: In 2014, family medicine residency programs began to integrate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) into training, although very few had an established POCUS curriculum. This study aimed to evaluate the resources, barriers, and scope of POCUS training in family medicine residencies 5 years after its inception.
Methods: Questions regarding current training and use of POCUS were included in the 2019 Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance (CERA) survey of family medicine residency program directors, and results compared to similar questions on the 2014 CERA survey.
