Article Synopsis
  • Anti-TNF therapy has proven effective in treating ulcerative colitis (UC), but there's limited data on its impact on Brazilian patients; this study compares the efficacy of adalimumab (ADA) and infliximab (IFX) in achieving clinical and endoscopic remission after one year of treatment.
  • Conducted across 24 centers, the study included 393 UC patients and utilized various statistical methods to analyze treatment outcomes, finding that IFX showed better clinical remission rates compared to ADA at 26 and 52 weeks.
  • Results indicated a clinical remission rate of 82.82% at week 52, with IFX patients experiencing fewer instances of loss of response, although endoscopic remission rates did not significantly differ between the

Second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI), such as nilotinib and dasatinib, are used in the first-line treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), usually after the failure or resistance to imatinib. Despite a good safety profile, medications in this category have an increased incidence of specific adverse events such as pulmonary hypertension, pleural effusion, and cardiovascular/peripheral arterial events. However, renal complications are rarely reported and observed.

Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (EDKA) is a rare and serious adverse effect of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i). The diagnosis is challenging due to the rarity, nonspecific symptoms, and absence of the alarmingly high blood glucose levels, and thus, it could be initially missed resulting in delayed treatment. This is particularly important for sedated patients, as the absence of typical clinical signs and symptoms can obscure the diagnosis.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare, chronic cerebrovascular disease affecting the cerebral arteries, leading to the development of unique collateral vessels. Few cases were reported from Saudi Arabia; however, the incidence rate is not well-defined. Hence, we present a case of a 13-month-old child who presented to the emergency room with first onset focal seizures with relatively unremarkable past medical and family history.

Purpose: Luminal, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative breast cancer represents the most common subtype of breast malignancies. Neoadjuvant strategies of operable breast cancer are mostly based on chemotherapy, whereas it is not completely understood which patients might benefit from neoadjuvant hormone therapy (NAHT).

Materials And Methods: The SAFIA trial is a prospective multicenter, international, double-blind, neoadjuvant phase III trial, using upfront 21-gene Oncotype DX Breast Recurrence Score assay (recurrence score [RS] < 31) to select operable luminal human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative patients, for induction hormonal therapy HT (fulvestrant 500 mg with or without goserelin) before randomly assigning responding patients to fulvestrant 500 mg (with or without goserelin) plus either palbociclib (cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor) or placebo.

To evaluate the perceptions of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) about self-assessment of their disease activity after watching an educational video. Consecutive patients with RA consulting their rheumatologist in six Middle Eastern Countries were invited to watch an educational video developed to teach self-assessment using Disease Activity Score (DAS-28). Then, a rheumatology nurse conducted a semi-structured interview and collected the patients' perception about the understanding of the video, feasibility, capability and confidence in performing self-assessment using Likert-type items.

Background: Oncotype Dx is used to predict the long-term recurrence risk in patients with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative invasive breast cancer (BC). This study aimed at establishing a correlation between clinicopathological parameters and recurrence score (RS), subsequently improving predictability and ultimately justifying the use of the multigene assay.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of the pathology and clinical data of 114 female patients with BC who had Oncotype Dx testing between 2012 and 2019.

Recently, the genetic cause of HIDEA syndrome (hypotonia, hypoventilation, intellectual disability, dysautonomia, epilepsy, and eye abnormalities) was identified as biallelic pathogenic variants in P4HTM, which encodes an atypical member of the prolyl 4-hydroxylases (P4Hs) family of enzymes. We report seven patients from four new families in whom HIDEA was only diagnosed after whole-exome sequencing (WES) revealed novel disease-causing variants in P4HTM. We note the variable phenotypic expressivity of the syndrome except for cognitive impairment/developmental delay, and hypotonia, which seem to be consistent findings.
