Exposure to parental and sibling smoking and future intentions to smoke among 13-15 years old school age children in Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: prevalence of smoking in school children is alarming in Saudi Arabia and little is well-known about the aspects stimulating such behaviours in secondary school children. The aim of this study was to assess the association between influence of parent/sibling/peer smoking and future intentions to initiate smoke among 13-15 years old school children in Al Ras town, Saudi Arabia.

Methods: a cross sectional survey was conducted in Al Ras city during first quarter of 2019.

Association of Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference With Dental Caries and Consequences of Untreated Dental Caries Among 12- to 14-Year-old Boys: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Objective: To evaluate the association between body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) and dental caries (DC), and the clinical consequences of untreated dental caries (U-DC) among 12- to 14-year-old male public-school adolescents in the Northern Province, Saudi Arabia.

Methods: The demographic and anthropometric measurements of 302 boys 12 to 14 years of age (mean: 12.5 years) were recorded.

Inferior alveolar nerve damage secondary to orthodontic treatment: A systematic scoping review.

Background: Neurosensory impairment is a common complication following inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) damage.

Objective: To document and report the various causes, diagnosis, and management of IAN damage secondary to orthodontic treatment.

Methods: An electronic search for studies that reported IAN damage in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment was performed up to July 15, 2020 using MEDLINE, Embase, and PubMed databases.

Distalization in Orthodontics: A Review and Case Series.

Distalization is a conservative method that is utilized in orthodontics to gain space by moving posterior teeth distally. It may be combined with other space gaining strategies, such as expansion, or can be used alone. Many methods have been used for distalization.

Correction of a Class III Malocclusion with a Functional Shift and Severe Crowding.

A forward functional shift of the mandible is a significant problem that can cause both functional and aesthetic complications for many patients. This shift usually occurs in growing patients, and it is unusual to see in adult patients. This case report shows an adult patient with a forwarding functional shift that caused both anterior and posterior crossbites with a pseudo class III dental and skeletal relationship.

Use of Non-Vital Pulp Therapies in Primary Teeth.

To present an evidence-based guideline for non-vital pulp therapies due to deep caries or trauma in primary teeth. The authors, working with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, conducted a systematic review/meta-analysis for studies on non-vital primary teeth resulting from trauma or caries and used the GRADE approach to assess level of certainty of evidence for clinical recommendations. GRADE was assessed from high to very low.

Newly graduated dentists' knowledge of temporomandibular disorders compared to specialists in Saudi Arabia.

Background: General dentists are often the first healthcare professionals to see patients with orofacial pain (OFP). OFP conditions associated with the temporomandibular joint are often confused with dentoalveolar disorders, which leads to mismanagement. The objective of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) among newly graduated dentists compared to OFP specialists in Saudi Arabia.

Nonsurgical Treatment of Class III Malocclusion with Both Anterior and Posterior Crossbites Combined with Impacted and Congenitally Missed Teeth.

Class III malocclusions present a great challenge for many orthodontists, especially if malocclusions are found in adult patients and alongside other dental problems. This case report shows an adult patient with a skeletal class III anterior crossbite, a unilateral posterior crossbite on the right side, a congenital absence of both lateral incisors and retained deciduous teeth, and shift in the lower midline. The upper retained deciduous teeth and lower premolars were extracted.

Nonextraction Management of Severely Malaligned and Constricted Upper Arch.

This case report presents the treatment of a 12-year-old female with a severely crowded upper arch, severely palatally displaced upper premolars and lateral incisors, large midline diastema, lower midline deviation to the right, class III dental and skeletal relationships due to mild maxillary deficiency, retroclined lower incisors, straight profile, and retrusive lips. A nonextraction treatment approach is described, in which the upper and lower arches were expanded to their original three dimensions using a trihelix expander, a lip bumper appliance, and a fixed orthodontic appliance. Retention was also planned in accordance with the original malocclusion, which inclued a full-time-wear upper wraparound retainer, upper and lower anterior fixed lingual retainers, upper frenectomy, and fibrotomy for rotated teeth.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Nonvital Pulp Therapy for Primary Teeth.

The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess success rates for nonvital treatment in primary teeth for caries/trauma. Databases were searched between 1960 and 2020 for randomized controlled trials, cohorts, case series, and in vitro studies. The primary outcome was overall success (clinical and radiographic) for pulpectomy and lesion sterilization tissue repair (LSTR).

Incidence of postoperative pain after canal shaping by using Reciproc and Twisted File Adaptive systems: a prospective, randomized clinical trial.

Objectives: The aim of this prospective clinical trial was to investigate the incidence of postoperative pain after initial root canal treatment using Twisted File Adaptive (TFA) and Reciproc systems.

Materials And Methods: A total of sixty-four previously initiated or necrotic posterior teeth were randomly assigned to two groups based on the rotary system used; TFA (SybronEndo, Orange, Ca) (n = 35) and Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) (n = 29). All teeth were treated in a single visit.

Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) - an overview.

Recent data indicates that molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is a frequently - encountered dental condition worldwide. The condition could be associated with dental complications that might affect patients' quality of life as well as create treatment challenges to dentists. The affected teeth are more prone to caries and post-eruptive enamel breakdown, therefore, it is believed that this condition might be responsible for a substantial proportion of childhood caries since the condition has high prevalence.

Osteoporosis effect on posterior mandible in preimplanted area for postmenopausal females using cone-beam computed tomography.

Background: Hormonal changes in women affect bone mineral density, especially during and postmenopausal years, which leads to susceptibility to osteoporosis which interfere with implantation.

Aims: This study aims to use cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) viewer program to predict patients with osteoporosis which may decrease the success rate of implantation and to evaluate osteoporosis effect on the posterior mandible.

Settings And Design: This cross-sectional study consists of 60 Iraqi females who were divided into three groups: Group 1 consisted of 20 nonosteoporotic females aged 20-30 years as a control group, Group 2 consisted of 20 nonosteoporotic females aged 50 years and above, and Group 3 consisted of 20 osteoporotic females aged 50 years and above.

Facial expression drawings and the full cup test: valid tools for the measurement of swelling after dental surgery.

Assessment of postoperative swelling is subjective and depends on the patient's opinion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of facial expression drawings and the full cup test and to compare their performance with that of other scales in measuring postoperative swelling. Fifty patients who had one of several procedures were included.

Interdisciplinary treatment of an adult with a unilateral cleft lip and palate.

The management of cleft lip and palate (CLP) requires an interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive care. The present report presents an interdisciplinary approach for the care of a cleft patient. A 17-year-old male patient presented with a a chief complaint of "unpleasant appearance of my teeth" and a history of surgical repair of unilateral CLP on the left side.

Unusual treatment of bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion via miniscrews and molar extraction.

This case report describes the treatment of a Saudi female patient, aged 13 years 8 months at the start of treatment, with a Class I bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion and extracted maxillary first molars. Miniscrews were placed bilaterally in the interdental space between both the upper and the lower posterior teeth. The treatment plan consisted of extraction of both lower first permanent molars, distalization of upper and lower premolars using miniscrews followed by en masse retraction of the upper and lower six anterior teeth.
