Background And Aims: Hypoglycemia produces thrombosis activation, but little attention has been paid to the effects of hyperglycemia following recovery from hypoglycemia on thrombosis activation.

Methods And Results: In both twenty-two healthy subjects and twenty-one matched persons with type 1 diabetes, recovery from a 2-h induced hypoglycemia was obtained by reaching normo-glycemia or hyperglycemia for another 2 h. After this, normal glycemia was maintained for the following 6 h.

The estrogen receptor β (ERβ) is emerging as an important player in the physiology of the endocrine pancreas. We evaluated the role and antidiabetic actions of the ERβ selective agonist WAY200070 as an insulinotropic molecule. Aim: Our objective was to assess the number of patients with an indication for lipid-lowering therapy according to their non-HDL cholesterol (N-HDL-C) (>130 mg/dL) concentrations despite on-target LDL (≤100 mg/dL) values determined using ultracentrifugation (UC) or direct enzymatic methods (DM).

Methods: In 1590 patients we studied the lipid profile using standard biochemical methods and sequential UC (N = 637) or triglyceride (TG) independent DM (N = 953). The indications for lipid-lowering therapy were compared by evaluating the real LDL concentration or N-HDL-C concentration.

The MAPK/ERK (mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal- regulated kinase signaling pathway) and PI3K/Akt (lipid kinase phoshoinositide-3-kinase signaling pathway) play an important role in transmission of cell signals through transduction systems as ligands, transmembrane receptors and cytoplasmic secondary messengers to cell nucleus, where they influence the expression of genes that regulate important cellular processes: cell growth, proliferation and apoptosis. The genes, coding the signaling cascade proteins (RET, RAS, BRAF, PI3K, PTEN, AKT), are mutated or aberrantly expressed in thyroid cancer derived from follicular thyroid cell. Genetic and epigenetic alternations, concerning MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways, contribute to their activation and interaction in consequence of malignant follicular cell transformation.
