Background: The renewed interest in BGO scintillators for TOF-PET is driven by the improved Cherenkov photon detection with new blue-sensitive SiPMs. However, the slower scintillation light from BGO causes significant time walk with leading edge discrimination (LED), which degrades the coincidence time resolution (CTR). To address this, a time walk correction (TWC) can be done by using the rise time measured with a second threshold.

Ultrathin atomic layer deposited ceria films (< 20 nm) are capable of H2 heterolytic activation at room temperature, undergoing a significant reduction regardless of the absolute pressure, as measured under in-situ conditions by near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. ALD-ceria can gradually reduce as a function of H2 concentration under H2/O2 environments, especially for diluted mixtures below 10%. At room temperature, this reduction is limited to the surface region, where the hydroxylation of the ceria surface induces a charge transfer towards the ceria matrix, reducing Ce4+ cations to Ce3+.

Lipases have catalytic capacity in various processes such as hydrolysis. Those derived from plant sources, such as linseed, offer an economical alternative. The immobilization process facilitates the recovery and reuse of lipase, providing advantages such as resistance to high temperatures and difficulties in recovering and reusing free lipases, which makes product separation difficult.

Males have a higher incidence and mortality rate from colorectal cancer (CRC) compared with females. This review examines the reasons for these differences, including risk factors, screening participation, interpretation of screening tests, presentation and tumour types, pathophysiology (particularly the impact of sex hormones on tumour-related gene expression, microsatellite instability, micro-RNA expression, and the tumour microenvironment), and the efficacy and toxicity of treatment. Sex differences in hormones and body composition are responsible for some of the sexual dimorphism in CRC incidence and outcomes, particularly the pathophysiology, CRC presentation, the pharmacokinetics of cytotoxic therapies, and the impact of treatment on outcomes.

Plant carotenoids are plastid-synthesized isoprenoids with roles as photoprotectants, pigments, and precursors of bioactive molecules such as the hormone abscisic acid (ABA). The first step of the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway is the production of phytoene from geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP), catalyzed by phytoene synthase (PSY). GGPP produced by plastidial GGPP synthases (GGPPS) is channeled to the carotenoid pathway by direct interaction of GGPPS and PSY enzymes.

Dietary consumption of green asparagus has been associated with several health benefits. These beneficial properties are attributed to the presence of many bioactive compounds in asparagus, including saponins, phenolics, flavonoids, as well as dietary fiber mostly comprising fructans and inulins, which are prebiotics capable of supporting the growth of beneficial members of gut microbiota. In this study, we used the Human Gut Simulator system to assess the fermentation of oro-gastro-intestinally digested asparagus powder by the human gut microbiota.
