Surgical Resection of Superior Vena Cava Saccular Aneurysm.

Aneurysms of the superior vena cava are rare vascular malformations of systemic veins. This report presents the case of a 27-year-old woman with an incidental finding of mediastinal shadow widening on the chest roentgenogram that was confirmed by computed tomographic angiography to be a superior vena cava saccular aneurysm >4 cm in diameter. Surgical resection was recommended on the basis of aneurysmal size and shape and was performed through median sternotomy by using cardiopulmonary bypass.

Supramolecular chemistry of carbon-based materials provides a variety of chemical structures with potential applications in materials science and biomedicine. Here, we explore the supramolecular complexation of fullerenes C and C, highlighting the ability of molecular nanographene tweezers to capture these structures. The binding constant for the CNG-1⊃C complex was significantly higher than for CNG-1⊃C, showing a clear selectivity for the more π-extended C.

Inferring structure of cortical neuronal networks from activity data: A statistical physics approach.

Understanding the relation between cortical neuronal network structure and neuronal activity is a fundamental unresolved question in neuroscience, with implications to our understanding of the mechanism by which neuronal networks evolve over time, spontaneously or under stimulation. It requires a method for inferring the structure and composition of a network from neuronal activities. Tracking the evolution of networks and their changing functionality will provide invaluable insight into the occurrence of plasticity and the underlying learning process.

Detection of vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 from sewage samples and public health response, Poland, November to December 2024.

In October and December 2024, circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) was detected from two wastewater samples in Poland during routine environmental surveillance. The first isolate was characterised and matched previous cVDPV2 isolates detected in Spain in September, as well as in Germany, Finland, and the United Kingdom in November and December 2024. In response to the event, active surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) has been strengthened, and the frequency of environmental sample collection has been increased.

The role of age of arrival and language environment factors in Arabic heritage language development: A longitudinal study.

The Arabic development of Syrian refugee children ( = 133; mean age = 9;4 at Time 1) was examined over 3 time periods during their first five years in Canada. Children were administered sentence repetition and receptive vocabulary tasks in English and Arabic, and information about age-of-arrival (AOA), schooling in Arabic and language environment factors was obtained via parent report. Older AOA was associated with superior Arabic abilities across time, but regardless of AOA, children showed plateau/attrition patterns in Arabic and shifts to English dominance by Time 3.

This review aims to summarize recent studies and findings within adoptive cell therapies, including tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, genetically engineered T cell receptors, and chimeric antigen receptor T cells, in the treatment of thoracic malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, and malignant pleural mesothelioma. Several trials are ongoing, and a few have reported results, suggesting that adoptive cell therapies may represent a potential treatment option for these patients, especially when checkpoint inhibition has failed.
