Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a rare acquired disorder where thrombopoietin-receptor agonists have become mainstays of ITP treatment. With the recent approval of avatrombopag (AVA), real-world studies are essential to evaluate its efficacy and safety. Our study of 66 adult ITP patients treated with AVA showed a high response rate.

Background And Aims: Multiple anti-inflammatory drugs have been tested for secondary prevention after myocardial infarction (MI), giving mixed results and questioning the efficacy of anti-inflammatory therapy. No head-to-head comparisons between anti-inflammatory drugs have been performed. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of anti-inflammatory drugs for secondary prevention after MI and the relative merits of specific drugs and administration strategies.

Several groundwater quality investigations have been conducted in coastal regions that are commonly exposed to multiple anthropogenic stressors. Nonetheless, such studies remain challenging because they require focused-diagnostic approaches for a comprehensive understanding of groundwater contamination. Therefore, this study integrates a multi-tracer approach to acquire comprehensive information allowing for an improved understanding of the origins of groundwater contamination, the relative contribution of contaminants, and their biogeochemical cycling within a coastal groundwater system.

Model-based tools applied to wastewater management have been identified as an emerging solution to address the associated challenges related to the optimization of the technologies, meeting more restricted water quality standards. Thus, for the first time, the demonstration of the solar photo-Fenton process for microcontaminant removal in the operating environment of a model-based tool is reported. This tool aids in determining the right cost-effective seasonal strategy for a 37-m demonstration-scale photoreactor operating in a rural wastewater treatment plant.

Coastal areas face significant challenges due to natural and anthropogenic changes, such as sea level rise, extreme events and coastal erosion. The coastal management requires the consideration of socioeconomic and environmental factors to address these variables. The selection of an appropriate Decision Support Tool (DST) based on decision matrix method plays a crucial role in implementing coastal management strategies to tackle climate change-related issues.

Rapid global urbanization poses considerable ecological risks to freshwater systems, notably leading to substantial reductions in microbial communities. To assess the impacts of human activities on these communities, we applied the high-throughput amplicon DNA sequencing to examine spatial variations in riverine microbial communities within an urbanized watershed. Coupled with the Geographical Detector Model, the effects of the land use were identified across the watershed.

The term graphene-based gas sensors may be too broad, as there are many physicochemical differences within the graphene-based materials (GBM) used for chemiresistive gas sensors. These differences condition the sensitivity, selectivity, recovery, and ultimately the sensing performance of these devices towards air pollutants. Continuous ultraviolet irradiation aids in the desorption of gas molecules and enhances sensor performance.

Purslane is a plant with high nutritional content that is mainly produced in the central part of Mexico. The nutritional content of purslane depends on various factors such as climatic and soil conditions, phenology, and fertilization. This article describes the H NMR metabolomics profiling of purslane in relation to fertilization at two harvest stages: C and C (27 and 42 days after emergence).

Several studies have used Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to assess chemical and structural changes caused by diagenesis in archaeological human bone, whereas other factors such as individual's biological profile (sex and age) or the type of bone have seldom been considered. In this study transmission FTIR was applied to 51 bone samples from 19 post-Roman individuals of A Lanzada necropolis (NW Spain). Mid-infrared (MIR) indices (IRSF, MMI, C/P, C/C, Am/P, BPI, API, AmI/AmII) were also calculated and principal component analysis (PCA) was used to explore peak ratios and differences across the whole spectrum.

Adults with intellectual disabilities are living longer, leading to an increasing need for older family caregivers to provide long-term care. To date, many studies have focused primarily on interventions to support caregivers of children with disabilities and elderly with dementia. For this reason, this study focuses on adapting the Savvy Caregiver Programme.

Narrative speech production requires the retrieval of concepts to refer to entities, which need to be referenceable more than once for any form of narrative coherence to arise. Such coherence has long been observed to be affected in schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD), yet the underlying mechanisms have been a longstanding puzzle, with existing evidence predominantly derived from Indo-European languages. Here we analyzed two picture descriptions from 22 native Mandarin Chinese speakers with SSD and 15 healthy controls.

Down syndrome (DS) or trisomy 21 (T21) is present in a significant number of children and adults around the world and is associated with cognitive and medical challenges. Through research, the T21 Research Society (T21RS), established in 2014, unites a worldwide community dedicated to understanding the impact of T21 on biological systems and improving the quality of life of people with DS across the lifespan. T21RS hosts an international conference every two years to support collaboration, dissemination, and information sharing for this goal.

Background: Patients with rectal cancer often experience adverse effects on urinary, sexual, and digestive functions. Despite recognised impacts and available treatments, they are not fully integrated into follow-up protocols, thereby hindering appropriate interventions. The aim of the study was to discern the activities conducted in our routine clinical practice outside of clinical trials.

Cervical cancer remains a major global health concern, with a specially alarming incidence in younger women. Traditional detection techniques such as the Pap smear and colposcopy often lack sensitivity and specificity and are highly dependent on the experience of the gynaecologist. In response, this study proposes the use of Hyperspectral Imaging, a pioneering technology that combines traditional imaging with spectroscopy to provide detailed spatial and spectral information.

In this study, we explore an enhancement to the U-Net architecture by integrating SK-ResNeXt as the encoder for Land Cover Classification (LCC) tasks using Multispectral Imaging (MSI). SK-ResNeXt introduces cardinality and adaptive kernel sizes, allowing U-Net to better capture multi-scale features and adjust more effectively to variations in spatial resolution, thereby enhancing the model's ability to segment complex land cover types. We evaluate this approach using the Five-Billion-Pixels dataset, composed of 150 large-scale RGB-NIR images and over 5 billion labeled pixels across 24 categories.

Anhedonia, characterized by diminished motivation and pleasure sensitivity, is increasingly recognized as prevalent among patients with chronic pain. Deep Endometriosis (DE), the most severe endophenotype of the disease, is commonly presented with chronic pelvic pain. This cross-sectional study reports, for the first time, the prevalence of anhedonia in a sample comprised by 212 premenopausal women with suspected DE referred to a tertiary hospital.

Background: Prevention of iron deficiency in suckling piglets by intramuscular injection of a standardized amount of iron dextran or gleptoferron in the first days of life can lead to over- or underdosage with respective health risks. Currently, combined iron products containing an active substance against coccidia are also used on farms. When using a combination product targeting two diseases, an adjustment of the necessary amount of iron to prevent anaemia in the frame of a farm-specific treatment protocol is not possible.

Background: A didelphic uterus represents a unique and infrequent congenital condition in which a woman possesses two distinct uteri, each with its own cervix. This anomaly arises due to partial or incomplete merging of the Müllerian ducts during the developmental stages in the womb. Accounting for uterine malformations, a didelphic uterus is a relatively rare condition, affecting approximately 0.
