Gene duplication has allowed protein evolution toward novel functions and mechanisms. The differences between paralogous genes frequently rely on the sequence of disordered regions. For instance, in mammals, the chaperones ANP32A and ANP32B share a common evolutionary line and have some exchangeable functions based on their similar N-terminal domains.

Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are typically employed in heterogeneous catalysis due to their porosity, chemical and thermal stability, and well-defined active sites. Density functional theory (DFT) is the workhorse to compute their electronic structure; however, it becomes very costly when dealing with reaction mechanisms involving large unit cells and vast configurational spaces. Semiempirical quantum mechanical (SQM) methods appear as an alternative approach to simulate such chemical systems at low computational cost, but their feasibility to model catalysis with MOFs is still unexplored.

Molecular methods such as DNA/eDNA metabarcoding have emerged as useful tools to document the biodiversity of complex communities over large spatio-temporal scales. We established an international Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (ARMS-MBON) combining standardised sampling using autonomous reef monitoring structures (ARMS) with metabarcoding for genetic monitoring of marine hard-bottom benthic communities. Here, we present the data of our first sampling campaign comprising 56 ARMS units deployed in 2018-2019 and retrieved in 2018-2020 across 15 observatories along the coasts of Europe and adjacent regions.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as potential energy-harvesting modules for miniaturized devices. TENG modules are derived often from components having low sustainability whereas the current environmental and economic circumstances demand a focus on sustainable, ecologically friendly approaches for the development of advanced hybrid materials. Herein, recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) along with commercially available nylon are electrospun into nanofibers for TENG devices.

Aim: Oral antibiotic prophylaxis (OAP) lowers rates of surgical site infection (SSI) and may aid anastomotic healing in colorectal surgery. The aim of this study was to analyse the understudied impact of OAP on SSI microbiology after colorectal surgery.
Method: A post hoc analysis was performed on a previous prospective, multicentre study of elective colorectal surgery.

Blood serum (BS) and seminal plasma (SP) share a plethora of compounds that might present an individual and/or temporal concentration variation. We aimed to determine whether BS and SP concentrations of albumin, calcium, citrate, creatinine, fructose, glucose, lactate, total protein, urea, zinc, cortisol, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and testosterone are related to weekly collections in New Zealand White (NZW) adult rabbit bucks. During a 12-week study, blood samples were obtained at the beginning and the end of the study period, and semen samples were taken twice a week from four NZW adult rabbit bucks, starting at 6-7 months of age.

Objective: This systematic review explores the associations between qualitative/quantitative changes in gut microbiota and psychopathological symptoms or other clinical features in patients with eating disorders (EDs). Secondary outcomes include exploring gut microbiota changes in EDs and potential relationships with psychotropic drug use.
Method: A systematic search was conducted across biomedical databases from inception to June 2024 according to PRISMA guidelines.

Conservation translocations are a well-known conservation tool used to reverse the effects of local population extinctions and restore ecosystems. Compared with mammals and birds, plants are underrepresented in translocation programs, and little is known about the potential taxonomic and phylogenetic biases of plant translocation efforts. We aimed to assess how translocated plant species may contribute to the conservation of phylogenetic diversity (PD) among European countries.

Aims: The study aims to conduct a thematic synthesis approach of existing qualitative research to synthesise the real experiences of nurses dealing with compassion fatigue. This integration seeks to provide a comprehensive overview, identify common themes, and offer theoretical support for developing effective intervention strategies to mitigate compassion fatigue in healthcare settings.
Design: A thematic synthesis approach was utilised, synthesising qualitative studies on nurses' experiences of compassion fatigue.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are emerging contaminants that pose significant health and environmental risks due to their persistence, including their presence in drinking water. Bioremediation, particularly through microorganisms such as actinobacteria, offers a sustainable approach to mitigate these pollutants. Actinobacteria from poly-extreme environments exhibit unique genetic and metabolic adaptations, enabling resistance to and degradation of various contaminants.

This study explores the capabilities of GC-APCI-IMS-QTOF MS and GC-EI-QOrbitrap MS in screening applications and different strategies for wide-scope screening of organic microcontaminants using target suspect and nontarget approaches. On one side, GC-APCI-IMS-QTOF MS excels at preserving molecular information and adds ion mobility separation, facilitating screening through the list of componentized features containing accurate mass, retention time, CCS, and fragmentation data. On the other side, the extensive and robust fragmentation of GC-EI-QOrbitrap MS allows the application of different strategies for target and nontarget approaches using the NIST library spectra.

Background: Individual traditional anthropometric measures such as body mass index and waist circumference may not fully capture the relation of adiposity to mortality. Investigating multitrait body shapes could overcome this limitation, deepening insights into adiposity and mortality.
Methods: Using UK Biobank data from 462,301 adults (40-69 years at baseline: 2006-2010), we derived four body shapes from principal component analysis on body mass index, height, weight, waist and hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio.

The total synthesis of the stereoisomer of muanlactam predicted by DP4+ calculations, which differed from that reported for the natural product on the relative configuration at C19, was completed, and the structure of the polyenic macrolactam was fully confirmed. Construction of the stereocenters involved the iterative enantio- and diastereoselective Krische's allylation reaction for the formal -1,3-diol and the addition of a propargylic Grignard reagent to Ellman's chiral nonracemic -butylsulfinamide for the enantiopure amine fragment. The conjugated triene and diene units were constructed by Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of the corresponding alkenylboronates and alkenyl iodides.

Introduction: Functioning is the reason to be of rehabilitation as it is essential to the lives of people who suffer from a disease. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) can help in designing a functioning profile of a patient, identifying needs for rehabilitation plans and measuring the results of an intervention.
Objective: To identify the outcome measurement instruments reported in clinical studies in muscular dystrophies (MDs) and provide an ICF content analysis.
