State of the art and future perspectives of new radionuclides in Nuclear Medicine.

Rev Esp Med Nucl Imagen Mol (Engl Ed)

January 2025

Unidad de Radiofarmacia, Servicio de Medicina Nuclear Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Madrid, Spain.

This continuing education analyzes recent advances in Nuclear Medicine focused on the development of new radiopharmaceuticals that improve both the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. The focus is on teragnosis, which combines diagnosis and treatment by means of pairs of radiopharmaceuticals directed to the same molecular target, which allows the personalization of treatments. This first part specifically reviews the teragnostic pairs copper-64/copper-67, lead-212/lead-203 and scandium-44/scandium-47, highlighting their physical characteristics, methods of production and potential clinical applications.

Primary intrarenal hemangioma - A series of 39 cases.

Ann Diagn Pathol

January 2025

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, USA. Electronic address:

Intrarenal hemangiomas lack concise clinicopathologic information, due to the predominance of single case reports and inclusion of other vascular neoplasms and hemangiomas of perirenal, hilar, and renal vein origin. Herein, in this multi-institutional study we evaluate clinicopathologic features of 39 intrarenal hemangiomas. The median age was 62 years (range = 27-94 years; 2:1 male to female ratio), with left-sided predominance (left = 21, right = 13; one case was bilateral).

High-risk neuroblastoma: ATRX and TERT as prognostic markers and therapeutic targets. Review and update on the topic.

Rev Esp Patol

January 2025

Departamento de Patología, Universidad de Valencia, Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia, CIBERONC (ISCIII Madrid), INCLIVA, Valencia, Spain. Electronic address:

High-risk neuroblastoma continues to show a very high mortality, with a 5-year survival rate of 50%. While MYCN amplification is the main genetic alteration associated with high-risk tumours, other molecular mechanisms, such as alterations in ATRX and TERT, remain poorly understood. ATRX and TERT biomarkers, which are associated with a more aggressive neuroblastoma pattern, should be considered for accurate prognostic stratification.

Impact of climate change on permanent lakes in a semiarid region: Southwestern Mediterranean basin (S Spain).

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Water Resources and Environmental Geology Research Group, Department of Biology and Geology, University of Almeria, Almeria, Spain; Andalusian Centre for Global Change - Hermelindo Castro (Engloba), University of Almería, Spain.

In recent decades, many wetlands in the Mediterranean watershed have dried up. We forecast the impact of climate change on the hydrology of three permanent lakes in a semiarid areo of the southwestern Mediterranean region. To achieve this, we applied daily water balance models to calculate variations in water levels and validated our approach using actual lake level measurements spanning over 20 years.

Biological and environmental degradation of two-dimensional materials.

Nat Rev Chem

January 2025

CNRS, Immunology, Immunopathology and Therapeutic Chemistry, UPR 3572, University of Strasbourg, ISIS, Strasbourg, France.

As the use of two-dimensional materials continues to grow, so too does the need to understand the environmental and biological impact of such materials. Degradation is a critical step in the life cycle of any material, but the majority of such knowledge is obtained from test tube and in vitro studies. Therefore, there remains a gap in understanding the degradability of two-dimensional materials in complex systems (in vivo) and in different ambient environments.

In Alzheimer's disease (AD), Aβ triggers p-tau secretion, which drives tau aggregation. Therefore, it is critical to characterize modulators of Aβ-related p-tau increases which may alter AD trajectories. Here, we assessed whether factors known to alter tau levels in AD modulate the association between fibrillar Aβ and secreted p-tau determined in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Friends to remember: innate immune memory regulation by the microbiota.

Trends Microbiol

January 2025

Inflammation and Macrophage Plasticity Laboratory, CIC bioGUNE-BRTA, Derio, Spain; Ikerbasque, Basque Foundation for Science, Bilbao, Spain. Electronic address:

Innate immune memory (IIM) is the process by which, upon a primary challenge, innate immune cells alter their epigenetic, transcriptional, and immunometabolic profiles, resulting in modified secondary responses. Unlike infections or other immune-system-related diseases, the role of IIM in nonpathogenic contexts is less understood. An increasing body of research has shown that normal microbiota members or their metabolic byproducts induce alternative memory phenotypes, suggesting that memory cells contribute to homeostasis in mucosal areas.

The Min system is a key spatial regulator of cell division in rod-shaped bacteria and the first FtsZ negative modulator to be recognized. Nevertheless, despite extensive genetic and in vitro studies, the molecular mechanism used by MinC to inhibit Z-ring formation remains incompletely understood. The crystallization of FtsZ in complex with other negative regulators such as SulA and MciZ has provided important structural information to corroborate in vitro experiments and establish the mechanism of Z-ring antagonism by these modulators.

In this study, graphitic carbon nitride (CN) and tungsten trioxide (WO) were successfully incorporated into bromine (Br)-doped graphitic carbon nitride (BCN) using an in-situ hydrothermal method. The photocatalytic efficiency of the resulting WO/Br-doped CN (WBCN) composites for the removal of tetracycline (TC) antibiotics under sunlight irradiation was evaluated. The mass ratio of WO to Br-doped CN (BCN) significantly influenced TC adsorption and photocatalytic degradation, with an optimal ratio of 9:1.

Eversa Transform (ETL) was immobilized on octyl agarose beads at two different enzymes loadings (1 mg/g and 15 mg/g) under 18 different conditions, including different pH values, buffers, additives (different solvents, Ca, NaCl). Their activity was analyzed at pH 5 and 7 with p-nitrophenyl butyrate and at pH 5 with triacetin, determining also its stability at pH 5 and 7 (in different media). Ca stabilized ETL biocatalysts while phosphate destabilized them.
