Introduction: T cells are involved in the early identification and clearance of viral infections and also support the development of antibodies by B cells. This central role for T cells makes them a desirable target for assessing the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Methods: Here, we combined two high-throughput immune profiling methods to create a quantitative picture of the T-cell response to SARS-CoV-2.

Department of Oncology Surgery, Cell Therapy and Organ Transplantation, Institute of Biomedicine of Seville, Virgen del Rocio University Hospital, Seville 41013, Spain.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common subtype of primary liver cancer with varied incidence and epidemiology worldwide. Sorafenib is still a recommended treatment for a large proportion of patients with advanced HCC. Different patterns of treatment responsiveness have been identified in differentiated hepatoblastoma HepG2 cells and metastatic HCC SNU449 cells.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder caused by the body's inability to produce or use insulin. Considering the figures projected by the World Health Organization, research on insulin therapy is crucial. Hence, we present a soft biointerface based on a thiol-yne poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) click-hydrogel as an advanced treatment option to administrate insulin.

Purpose: Tibial valgus osteotomy has shown to be a successful and cost-effective procedure. The advent of image processing and three-dimensional (3D) printing is an interesting tool for achieving more accurate and reproducible results. The aim of our study was to compare the accuracy of the conventional technique and the use of customized guides in the correction of tibial deformities in tibial varus patients, the surgical and clinical benefits, and the impact of treatment in the outpatient setting.

Background: Although post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) is a common complication after kidney transplantation, there are few data on prevention, optimal screening, and treatment strategies.

Methods: The European Renal Association's DESCARTES working group distributed a web-based survey to European transplant centres to gather information on risk assessment, screening procedures, and management practices for preventing and treating PTDM in kidney transplant recipients.

Results: Answers were obtained from 121/241 transplant centres (50%) across 15 European countries.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major source of chronic pain and disability, representing a significant global health concern that affects 10-15 % of individuals aged over 60, with a higher prevalence among females than males. This investigation aimed to evaluate the impact of a dietary supplement containing collagen peptides (MW 1-3 kDa) on knee OA symptoms and inflammatory biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). Adults aged 30-81 years (50 % female) with grade II or III OA and a minimum pain score of 40 on the 0 to 100 visual analogue scale (VAS) were enrolled.

Relevance of the GH-VEGFB/VEGFA axis in liver grafts from brain-dead donors with alcohol-associated liver disease.

Front Cell Dev Biol

January 2025

Department of Liver, Digestive System and Metabolism, Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer, Barcelona, Spain.

Introduction: Grafts with alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) subjected to prolonged cold ischaemia from donors after brain death (DBD) are typically unsuitable for transplantation. Here, we investigated the role of growth hormone (GH) in livers with ALD from DBDs and its relationship with vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and VEGFB.

Methods: Livers from rats fed ethanol for 6 weeks and with brain death (BD) were cold stored for 24 h and subjected to reperfusion.

Introduction: Salivary Lactate Dehydrogenase (sLDH) levels seem to be higher in patients with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) and Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (OPMD) than a control group (CG).

Methods: Case-control study. Patients with OPMD [oral leukoplakia (OL) and oral lichen planus (OLP)] and OSCC who attended two services in Spain were selected.

Background And Objective: Temporomandibular disorders, of multifactorial etiology, refer to a series of pathologies that affect the temporomandibular joint and the associated musculature of the orofacial region and are the result of alterations in the physiological relationships of the stomatognathic system, responsible for functions such as chewing, phonation and swallowing. They produce, among other symptoms, mainly pain, which affects the quality of life of the patients who suffer from them. To alleviate the discomfort of neuromuscular pathology in the orofacial region, various therapeutic strategies are employed, ranging from non-invasive to more invasive methods.

Objective: Muscle power is essential for the activities of daily living. Muscle power production depends on numerous factors such as muscle size and length, muscle architecture and fiber type and varies with age during growth. The association between muscle power output during a jump and lower limb muscle volume and length in adolescents is largely unknown.

January 2025

Centro de Investigaciones sobre Desertificación CIDE CSIC-UVEG-GV Valencia Spain.

The spatial distribution pattern of plant species is frequently driven by a combination of biotic and abiotic factors that jointly influence the arrival, establishment, and reproduction of plants. Comparing the spatial distribution of a target plant species in different populations represents a robust approach to identify the underlying mechanisms. We mapped all reproductive individuals of the Iberian pear () in five plots (1.

Introduction: Understanding consent is essential to combat sexual violence, a deeply rooted social problem. Amidst its complexities, the scientific literature has emphasized the shortcomings of only considering the speech act-whether the victim-survivor said "yes" or not. Instead, sociological research underscores the need to analyze the whole communicative act where different elements lead to either a power relationship where there is no consent or a dialogic relationship where freedom is granted.

Introduction: 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) fluorescence used in glioma surgery has different intensities within tumors and among different patients, some molecular and external factors have been implicated, but there is no clear evidence analyzing the difference of fluorescence according to glioma molecular characteristics. This study aimed to compare molecular factors of glioma samples with fluorescence intensity to identify potential cofounders and associations with clinically relevant tumor features.

Methods: Tumor samples of high-grade glioma patients operated using 5-ALA for guided resection were included for comparative analysis of fluorescence intensity and molecular features.
