Background: Patients with rectal cancer often experience adverse effects on urinary, sexual, and digestive functions. Despite recognised impacts and available treatments, they are not fully integrated into follow-up protocols, thereby hindering appropriate interventions. The aim of the study was to discern the activities conducted in our routine clinical practice outside of clinical trials.

Cervical cancer remains a major global health concern, with a specially alarming incidence in younger women. Traditional detection techniques such as the Pap smear and colposcopy often lack sensitivity and specificity and are highly dependent on the experience of the gynaecologist. In response, this study proposes the use of Hyperspectral Imaging, a pioneering technology that combines traditional imaging with spectroscopy to provide detailed spatial and spectral information.

In this study, we explore an enhancement to the U-Net architecture by integrating SK-ResNeXt as the encoder for Land Cover Classification (LCC) tasks using Multispectral Imaging (MSI). SK-ResNeXt introduces cardinality and adaptive kernel sizes, allowing U-Net to better capture multi-scale features and adjust more effectively to variations in spatial resolution, thereby enhancing the model's ability to segment complex land cover types. We evaluate this approach using the Five-Billion-Pixels dataset, composed of 150 large-scale RGB-NIR images and over 5 billion labeled pixels across 24 categories.

Anhedonia, characterized by diminished motivation and pleasure sensitivity, is increasingly recognized as prevalent among patients with chronic pain. Deep Endometriosis (DE), the most severe endophenotype of the disease, is commonly presented with chronic pelvic pain. This cross-sectional study reports, for the first time, the prevalence of anhedonia in a sample comprised by 212 premenopausal women with suspected DE referred to a tertiary hospital.

Background: Prevention of iron deficiency in suckling piglets by intramuscular injection of a standardized amount of iron dextran or gleptoferron in the first days of life can lead to over- or underdosage with respective health risks. Currently, combined iron products containing an active substance against coccidia are also used on farms. When using a combination product targeting two diseases, an adjustment of the necessary amount of iron to prevent anaemia in the frame of a farm-specific treatment protocol is not possible.

Background: A didelphic uterus represents a unique and infrequent congenital condition in which a woman possesses two distinct uteri, each with its own cervix. This anomaly arises due to partial or incomplete merging of the Müllerian ducts during the developmental stages in the womb. Accounting for uterine malformations, a didelphic uterus is a relatively rare condition, affecting approximately 0.

Background: Physical fitness and functioning are related to better mental health in older age. However, which fitness components (body composition, strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance) are more closely related to psychological well-being (PWB) is unclear.
Methods: This research examined how body mass index (BMI) and six indices of functional fitness (i.

Background: There is evidence that exercise may reduce the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and improve other obstetric outcomes in overweight or obese pregnant women. However, the available evidence is of low quality and inconclusive. The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of exercise, compared with usual care, in reducing GDM and other obstetric risks, in overweight and obese pregnant women.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are recommended to treat patients with deficient mismatch repair/microsatellite instability high (dMMR/MSI-H) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Pivotal trials have fixed a maximum ICI duration of 2 years, without a compelling rationale. A shorter treatment duration has the potential to improve patients' quality of life and reduce both toxicity and cost without compromising efficacy.

Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FHCC) is a rare variant of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), characterised by a poorer prognosis in later stages compared with conventional HCC due to a high rate of local recurrence, lymph node metastasis and peritoneal metastasis. Conventional chemotherapy is generally ineffective, making surgery the only potentially curative treatment. Currently, surgery is also indicated in cases of recurrence, always aiming for an R0 resection.

Objetives: Montgomery medialization thyroplasty involves fitting a silicone prosthesis in the thyroid cartilage according to gender-based placement criteria. This standardized procedure can lead in some cases to suboptimal results. The aim of this study is to identify individual anatomical differences between same-gender patients that could explain the occasional failures.

Background: The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 emerged as a new variant of concern, characterized by high transmissibility and lower severity compared with previous variants, and became the majority variant in the sixth wave in Spain. This study aims to assess the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on liver transplant recipients (LTRs) during 2023 in the population of Cantabria.
Methods: The study included 295 LTRs undergoing follow-up at the Liver Transplant Unit of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital.

Introduction: The hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) system has been developed to improve the quality of previously considered suboptimal liver grafts, reduce complications, and increase the number of available donors. The aim of this study is to evaluate the results since its implementation in the liver transplant (LT) program at our center.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective descriptive analysis of all LTs with HOPE from August 2022 to November 2023 with a minimum follow-up of 3 months.

Shortened telomere length (STL) is associated with increased rates of interstitial lung diseases, malignancy, hematological disorders, and immunosuppressive treatment toxicities. In this single-center retrospective study, we aim to determine whether patients with interstitial lung diseases who have STL, as determined by quantitative PCR of buccal epithelial cells, exhibit worse post-transplant outcomes compared to recipients with normal telomere length. In our series of 26 patients, STL was associated with a higher incidence of chronic kidney disease following lung transplantation (100% vs 55%, P = .

Background: Patients with non-functioning renal grafts constitute approximately 4% of patients with incident dialysis. Complete withdrawal of immunosuppression has been associated with a higher risk of HLA sensitization and renal graft intolerance syndrome (GIS).
Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study of 63 patients with renal graft failure (from January 2012 to December 2022).

Despite high initial vaccination rates, Spain's current COVID-19 vaccination coverage in recommended groups does not meet WHO targets. For the upcoming season, challenges include revising vaccination age, updating risk groups, and unifying criteria with flu vaccine co-administration. European Commission's advance purchase agreements limit access to certain vaccines, and the need for vaccines effective against current variants adds administrative complexities.

Introduction: The extent to which commercially available nucleic acid extraction platforms impact the magnitude of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA loads measured in plasma specimens by 1st WHO standard-normalized real-time PCR assays is uncertain.
Methods: This retrospective study compares the performance of Abbott m2000sp, Qiagen QIAsymphony SP, and KingFisher Flex platforms using plasma samples from allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients and plasma spiked with the CMV AD169 strain. The Abbott RealTime CMV PCR assay was used for CMV DNA quantitation.
