A stable electroactive thin film of poly(caffeic acid) has been deposited on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode by potentiostatic technique in an aqueous solution containing caffeic acid. Poly(caffeic acid) was used as a modified electrode for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA), epinephrine (EP), uric acid (UA) and their mixture by cyclic voltammetry. This modified electrode exhibits potent and persistent electron-mediating behavior followed by well-separated oxidation peaks towards AA, EP and UA with activation overpotential.

A novel label-free amperometric immunosensor for the detection of rubella vaccine was developed by immobilizing anti-rubella serum on bilayer nano-Au/polymerized o-phenylenediamine film with electrodeposited Prussian Blue (PB) as an electrode transfer mediator on the platinum electrode. The redox reactions of PB as a probe on the platinum surface were blocked due to the binding of the antibody to the antigen, which was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Therefore, the interaction of the antibody with various concentrations of antigen could be detected by measurements of amperometric response in PBS, and the amperometric response on the surface of the modified electrode was inversely proportional to the concentration of rubella vaccine in the sample.

A systematic investigation of the proton transfer in the keto-amino/enol tautomerization of imidazolone was undertaken. Calculations in aqueous solution were performed using both combined discrete/self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) and SCRF methods. Complexes containing one to three water molecules around the hydrophilic site of imidazolone were used for the combined discrete/SCRF calculations.

Binding of heparin with a cationic surfactant such as cetyldimethyl benzylammonium chloride (CDBAC), tetradecyldimethyl benzylammonium chloride (Zeph), cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB), tetradecane pyridinium bromide (TPB) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in a near-neutral medium can result in a significant enhancement of resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) intensities. The results showed that the reaction conditions and RRS spectral characteristics of these reactions are similar, but their sensitivities are obviously different. Among them, the sensitivity of CDBAC with an aryl and large molecular weight is the highest, while that of CTAB without aryl and with small molecular weight is the lowest.

A novel method for fabrication of DNA biosensors has been developed by means of self-assembling colloidal Ag (Ag) to a thiol-containing sol-gel network. The thiol groups of 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) serve as binding sites for the covalent attachment to gold electrode surface. Then the one-dimensional network of silane unites (1dMPTS) was combined together into a two-dimensional sol-gel network (2dMPTS) by dipping into aqueous NaOH.
