Reputation and punishment are significant guidelines for regulating individual behavior in human society, and those with a good reputation are more likely to be imitated by others. In addition, society imposes varying degrees of punishment for behaviors that harm the interests of groups with different reputations. However, conventional pairwise interaction rules and the punishment mechanism overlook this aspect.

Recently, the emergence of two-dimensional (2D) multiferroic materials has opened a new perspective for exploring topological states. However, instances of tuning topological phase transitions through ferroelectric (FE) polarization in 2D ferromagnetic (FM) materials are relatively rare. Here, we found that 11 single layer (SL) materials, named the MMGeX family, possess both FE and FM properties.

Peatlands store one-third of the world's soil organic carbon. Globally increased fires altered peat soil organic matter chemistry, yet the redox property and molecular dynamics of peat-dissolved organic matter (PDOM) during fires remain poorly characterized, limiting our understanding of postfire biogeochemical processes. Clarifying these dynamic changes is essential for effective peatland fire management.

Adults with high ADHD traits (H-ADHD) face challenges in academics, social interactions, and careers, yet their attention characteristics remains unclear. Using Attention Network Test (ANT), we examine attentional characteristics (including specific attentional qualities and overall attentional performance) of H-ADHD and explore how their specific attentional qualities impact overall attentional performance. We find H-ADHD primarily manifests lower alerting network, higher intra-individual coefficient of variation (ICV) and poorer balanced integration score (BIS).

This collaborative work by over 180 researchers from 40+ countries addresses the challenges posed by "phantom agents"-putative pathogenic agents named in literature without supporting data on their existence. Those agents remain on regulatory lists, creating barriers in trade and plant certification. Historically identified based solely on symptoms, these agents lack isolates or sequence data, making reliable detection or risk assessment impossible.

Multilayer paper-based cell culture, as an in vitro three-dimensional (3D) cell culture method, has been frequently used to research drug bioavailability, therapeutic efficacy, and dose-limiting toxicity in malignant tumors. This paper proposes a heterogenous multilayer paper stacking co-culture system to establish a model of natural killer (NK) cells moving through the endothelium layer and attacking tumor spheroids. This system consists of three layers: a bottom tumor-spheroid layer, a middle invasion layer, and a top endothelium layer.

This study systemically investigated the enantioselective bioaccumulation and degradation of etoxazole (ETZ) in earthworms along with the transcriptome and oxidative stress responses to ETZ enantiomer exposure. Based on the M-shaped bioaccumulation trends for ETZ enantiomers, -ETZ was found to be preferentially bioaccumulated in earthworms. Sublethal toxicity analysis showed that -ETZ induced greater changes in protein content, malondialdehyde content, detoxifying metabolic enzyme activity, and oxidative stress in earthworms, compared to those induced by -ETZ.

With the development of the nuclear industry, the direct discharge of uranium-containing wastewater has become increasingly harmful to the environment. A novel graphene oxide-supported and phosphoric-crosslinked chitosan gel bead (C-PGCB) with excellent uranium uptake capability was successfully fabricated to treat uranium-containing wastewater. The experimental results showed that the introduction of PO and CO bonds through phosphoric acid crosslinking could greatly improve the capturing ability of chitosan-based materials, which could reach 97.

In this study, the effects of transglutaminase on the structural and physicochemical properties of soy protein isolate/konjac glucomannan complex were investigated. Additionally, the complex was treated with different transglutaminase additions, cross-linking temperatures, and cross-linking pH and compared with a control without transglutaminase to elucidate the effect of transglutaminase on the internal interactions within the complex. The results demonstrated that transglutaminase treatment significantly enhanced the water-holding and oil-binding capacities by 34.

The purpose of this study was to understand the effects of cooking treatment on the protein hydrolysis of beef tripe and the release of potentially bioactive peptides using an in vitro gastrointestinal model. The results showed that digestion promoted the hydrolysis of proteins and release of free amino acids in beef tripe, but cooking treatment significantly reduced them. The sample of the cooked beef tripe after gastrointestinal digestion had the highest antioxidant activity.

Herein, a supramolecular DNA nanodevice was formed via the rolling circle amplification (RCA) and hybridization chain reaction (HCR) cascade reaction on a tetrahedral DNA nanostructure (TDN) to achieve simultaneous sensitive detection and intracellular imaging of dual-miRNAs related to liver cancer. The supramolecular DNA nanodevice effectively addressed the limitations of low probe loading capacity in traditional TDN nanodevices by enriching plenty of signal probes around a single TDN, significantly enhancing the fluorescence signal. Impressively, the supramolecular DNA nanodevice with a TDN fulcrum and dense DNA structure imparted the nanodevice with strong rigidity, ensuring the stability of the signal probes to decrease aggregation quenching for further increasing the fluorescence response.

Chromium [Cr(VI)]-induced soil pollution is a serious environmental threat. Bioremediation utilizes specific microbes capable of transforming Cr(VI) into the less toxic Cr(III), however, microbial efficacy can be inhibited by elevated pollutant concentrations and competition from indigenous microbial communities. Thus, this study explored the potential of single and multi-domain microbial consortia encapsulated in alginate to overcome these shortcomings.

Heterozygotic mutations are responsible for various congenital diseases in the heart, pancreas, liver, and other organs in humans. However, there is lack of an animal that can comprehensively model these diseases since GATA6 is essential for early embryogenesis. Here, we report the establishment of a knockout zebrafish which recapitulates most of the symptoms in patients with mutations, including cardiac outflow tract defects, pancreatic hypoplasia/agenesis, gallbladder agenesis, and various liver diseases.

Despite being a groundbreaking approach to treating colorectal cancer (CRC), the efficacy of immunotherapy is significantly compromised by the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and dysbiotic intestinal microbiota. Here, leveraging the superior carrying capacity and innate immunity-stimulating property of living bacteria, a nanomedicine-engineered bacterium, LR-S-CD/CpG@LNP, with optical responsiveness, immune-stimulating activity, and the ability to regulate microbiota metabolome is developed. Immunoadjuvant (CpG) and carbon dot (CD) co-loaded plant lipid nanoparticles (CD/CpG@LNPs) are constructed and conjugated to the surface of Limosilactobacillus reuteri (LR) via reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive linkers.

The Q-matrix is one of the core components of cognitive diagnostic assessment, which is a matrix describing the relationship between items and the attributes being assessed. Numerous studies have shown that inaccuracies in defining the Q-matrix can degrade parameter estimation and model fitting results. Currently, Q-matrix validation often involves exhaustive search algorithms (ESA), which traverse through all possible -vectors and determine the optimal -vector for items based on indicators or criteria corresponding to different validation methods.

A pot experiment was conducted on arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) co-contaminated soil to discern the influence of varying proportions of pig manure compost (PM) vis-à-vis chemical fertilizers (NPK) on the mitigation of Cd and As absorption by rice. Our findings illustrated that by increasing the PM proportions from 25 to 100%, it manifested a statistically significant reduction in the mobilized fractions of Cd, accounting for up to 77% reduction in soil CaCl-Cd concentrations. Conversely, the NaHCO-As reactions were contingent on the distinct PM application rates.
