Gender bias in child custody judgments: Evidence from Chinese family court.

Based on a quantitative analysis of a novel dataset comprising 10,093 publicly available judgments of adjudicated child custody disputes from the China Judgments Online website, this article identifies potential gender bias in Chinese family courts under certain conditions. Key findings include: 1. Mothers are generally more proactive in seeking custody and are awarded custody in the majority of cases compared to fathers.

Gender differences, academic patenting, and tenure-track reform in China: Evidence from life sciences at elite universities.

This study is the first to examine the gender gap in academic patenting among faculty members in Chinese universities, a critical issue for the sustainable development of scientific research and innovation. Using a unique dataset that includes the patenting activities and professional status of 1,836 faculty members in life science-related departments at 36 top Chinese universities, this research reveals an evolving landscape of patenting dynamics. The trend of male faculty members leading in the annual number of patent applications and patents granted has shifted among newly graduated faculty members.

Studying regional low-carbon development: A case study of Sichuan Province in China.

The unavoidable option for socially sustainable development is a low-carbon economy. One of the essential steps for China to attain high-quality development is reducing carbon emissions. It is necessary to realize low-carbon development in Sichuan, as it is not only an important economic zone but also an ecological protected area.

How does China's green credit policy affect the innovation of high-polluting enterprises? From the perspective of innovation quantity and quality.

Employing the "Green Credit Guidelines" implemented in 2012 as the basis for a quasi-natural experiment, this study applies the method of Difference-in-Differences(DID) to investigate the influence of the Green Credit Policy on both the quantity and quality of enterprise innovation. The outcomes of our analysis reveal that the policy has significantly boosted both the quantity and quality of innovation among enterprises identified as heavy polluters. It is noteworthy that the policy's positive impact on innovation quantity surpasses its positive effect on innovation quality.

Urban-Rural Disparities in the Association Between Home- and Community-Based Service Utilization and Levels of Disability Among Chinese Older Adults With Disabilities.

Home- and community-based services (HCBS) are optimal ways to deal with disability problems among older adults. This study aims to analyze urban-rural disparities in the relationship between HCBS utilization and levels of disability among Chinese older adults with disabilities, so as to meet the long-term care needs of them. In applying the Andersen Behavioral Model, bivariate analysis and multivariate regression models were employed using data from 843 older adults with disabilities from the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS).

Screening of sustainable supply chain performance evaluation indicators based on the ill-conditioned index cycle method.

The establishment of an evaluation indicator system that can accurately assess the sustainability of a supply chain while further enhancing its performance is vital and relevant. Based on the connotation of sustainable supply chains and triple bottom line theory, indicators are initially proposed from economic, environmental, and social dimensions. To increase the explanatory power of the indicator system and decrease information redundancy, the coefficient of variation is applied to identify the indicators with weak interpretation intensity, the ill-conditioned index cycle method is utilized to filter out indicators with redundant information, and data on 100 Chinese listed companies from 2019 to 2021 are used as samples.

Automatic detection method for tobacco beetles combining multi-scale global residual feature pyramid network and dual-path deformable attention.

Aiming at the problems of identifying storage pest tobacco pest beetles from images that have few object pixels and considerable image noise, and therefore suffer from lack of information and identifiable features, this paper proposes an automatic monitoring method of tobacco beetle based on Multi-scale Global residual Feature Pyramid Network and Dual-path Deformable Attention (MGrFPN-DDrGAM). Firstly, a Multi-scale Global residual Feature Pyramid Network (MGrFPN) is constructed to obtain rich high-level semantic features and more complete information on low-level features to reduce missed detection; Then, a Dual-path Deformable receptive field Guided Attention Module (DDrGAM) is designed to establish long-range channel dependence, guide the effective fusion of features and improve the localization accuracy of tobacco beetles by fitting the spatial geometric deformation features of and capturing the spatial information of feature maps with different scales to enrich the feature information in the channel and spatial. Finally, to simulate a real scene, a multi-scene tobacco beetle dataset is created.

Quantifying the effect of ESG-related news on Chinese stock movements.

Current Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rating systems encounter challenges due to their subjectivity, time lag, and inconsistent coverage, which present significant obstacles for investors in the stock market. In contrast, news reporting data, characterized by its objectivity, timeliness, publicity, and sociality, has been a crucial source of quality market information for investors. The potential of ESG-related news as a robust complement to the data sources used in existing ESG rating systems merits further exploration.

Three-Dimensional Point Cloud Segmentation Algorithm Based on Depth Camera for Large Size Model Point Cloud Unsupervised Class Segmentation.

This paper proposes a 3D point cloud segmentation algorithm based on a depth camera for large-scale model point cloud unsupervised class segmentation. The algorithm utilizes depth information obtained from a depth camera and a voxelization technique to reduce the size of the point cloud, and then uses clustering methods to segment the voxels based on their density and distance to the camera. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves high segmentation accuracy and fast segmentation speed on various large-scale model point clouds.

A tripartite evolutionary game behavior analysis of the implementation strategy of the internal carbon pricing of enterprises under governments supervision.

Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP) represents an innovative approach to carbon emission reduction. The implementation of the ICP involves enterprises and internal organizations, with its outcomes closely tied to government actions. In this study, a tripartite evolutionary game model comprising these subjects was constructed, and subsequent simulation analyses were conducted.

The effect of auditor's cooperation with independent financial advisors on the reliability of performance commitment-Based on the moderating effect of managerial overconfidence.

Based on the sample of major asset restructuring transactions of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2018, this paper uses Logit model to examine the impact of auditors ' cooperation experience with independent financial advisors on the reliability of performance commitments, and to examine the moderating effect of management overconfidence on the relationship between the two. The results show that the cooperation experience between auditors and independent financial advisors is significantly positively correlated with the reliability of performance commitment, and the closer the cooperation experience is, the easier the performance commitment will be realized, this has played a financial intermediary team effect. Further analysis shows that in the context of management overconfidence, the positive relationship between financial intermediaries ' cooperation experience and the reliability of performance commitment is stronger.

Attention-based dual-path feature fusion network for automatic skin lesion segmentation.

Automatic segmentation of skin lesions is a critical step in Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) of melanoma. However, due to the blurring of the lesion boundary, uneven color distribution, and low image contrast, resulting in poor segmentation result. Aiming at the problem of difficult segmentation of skin lesions, this paper proposes an Attention-based Dual-path Feature Fusion Network (ADFFNet) for automatic skin lesion segmentation.

Goodwill impairment, M&A, and industry development-Empirical evidence from listed companies in China.

Goodwill has been a controversial issue in China since 2007 when the new accounting standards changed the subsequent measurement of goodwill from periodic amortization to impairment testing. Using the change in subsequent measurement of goodwill, this paper examines the impact of goodwill accounting on corporate M&A and industry development. The paper finds that adopting the goodwill impairment test significantly increases firms' M&A incentives, as evidenced by a significant increase in the frequency and probability of M&A and a significant reduction in the time interval between successive M&A at the industry level.

An empirical research on employee welfare and internal control quality.

Internal control is the key to achieve high-quality development of enterprises, but internal control failure cases frequently occur at home and abroad. Therefore, it is particularly important to explore ways to improve the quality of internal control and promote high-quality development of enterprises. Taking non-financial listed enterprises in China from 2015 to 2020 as research samples, this paper adopts empirical research methods to research the impact and mechanism of employee welfare on the quality of internal control of enterprises from the perspective of all-employee governance, aiming to explore ways for enterprises to improve the quality of internal control.

Exploring the Asymmetric Impact of Public Debt on Renewable Energy Consumption Behavior.

The mounting pollution burden has raised the need for renewable energy demand throughout the world. The study aims to explore the effect of public debt on renewable energy consumption for selected 23 Asian economies for the time period 1990-2019. Long-run empirical findings of the group-wise symmetric ARDL model reveal that increasing public debt results in declining renewable energy consumption.

Study on Fatigue Coefficient of Airline Pilots.

This paper uses the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-16) to investigate the fatigue status of pilots, and the reliability and validity of the scale are tested by Cronbach's α and exploratory factor analysis. The founding shows that mild fatigue and above accounted for 67.7%.

Social Support, Mindfulness, and Job Burnout of Social Workers in China.

In the last 20 years, amid extensive social and economic reforms, China's social structure and community life have changed considerably. A large number of social workers are needed to provide many more social services to community residents. The central government has issued many policies to rapidly develop human service organizations and increase the number of social workers.

City Brand Image Building and Its Impact on the Psychological Capital of New Entrepreneurs Following Cultural Construction.

The purpose of the study is to provide effective direction and ideas for urban modernization and promote the development of the city innovation economy and the stability of the employment rate. First, the main contents and influencing factors of urban culture construction are introduced. Second, the construction of city cultural images and the social capital of new entrepreneurs are discussed, and the relationship between the two is analyzed.

The impact of natural disasters on China's macroeconomy.

This study attempts to construct an econometric model using China's natural disaster losses and macro-industry development data from 1980 to 2017 to explore the macroeconomic fluctuations caused by natural disasters. The structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) and the seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) models are employed in estimating the impact of natural disasters on China's macroeconomy and how the disasters specifically affect the three sectors of the economy: primary, secondary, and tertiary. This study concludes that even though natural disasters in China do not significantly affect the overall real GDP, they have adverse impacts on the production in the primary industry, causing a sudden reduction in the means of production in the market and directly affecting various industries, but the impact on the secondary and tertiary industries is weak.

Sectoral-based CO emissions of Pakistan: a novel Grey Relation Analysis (GRA) approach.

Global warming regarded as the major global issue over the past few decades, whereas carbon dioxide (CO) emissions have been cited as one of the main causes of this problem. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of energy consumption, economic development, and population growth on high CO emitting sectors of Pakistan such as transportation, industrial, and household. The data used in this study was taken from multiple databases from 2000 to 2018.

Quality of Care for Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in Pakistan: A Retrospective Study.

A wide variation exists in the practice patterns of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care worldwide, leading to differences in clinical outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the quality of process care and its impact on in-hospital outcomes among AMI patients in Pakistan, as no such study has been conducted in Pakistan thus far based upon recommended guidelines. We investigated a sample of 2663 AMI patients across 11 territory hospitals in Punjab province of Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017, with an in-hospital mortality rate of 8.

The relationship between self-enhancing humor and precuneus volume in young healthy individuals with high and low cognitive empathy.

A self-enhancing humor style (SEHS) plays an important role in the regulation of negative emotion through humorous perspective-taking. Following the mind-reading theories of humor, we investigated the relationship between gray-matter volume (GMV) of brain areas related to theory of mind and SEHS in young college students, using voxel-based morphometry analysis. We then performed a voxel-wise analysis of covariance to assess any moderation effect of cognitive empathy on the relationship.

Community Evolution in International Migration Top1 Networks.

Focusing on each country's topmost destination/origin migration relation with other countries, this study builds top1 destination networks and top1 origin networks in order to understand their skeletal construction and community dynamics. Each top1 network covers approximately 50% of the complete migrant network stock for each decade between 1960 and 2000. We investigate the community structure by implementing the Girvan-Newman algorithm and compare the number of components and communities to illustrate their differences.

Residence-Based Fear of Crime: A Routine Activities Approach.

Most fear-of-crime research uses resident's neighborhood as a key reference location to measure fear, yet the location effects of one's own dwelling unit on crime-specific fear has not been explicitly studied theoretically in the literature. Drawing upon routine activities theory, this study undertakes an investigation into the levels and determinants of residence-based fear of crime across three racial/ethnic groups-Whites, African Americans, and non-White Hispanics. Data used in the analyses were collected from a random-sample telephone survey of 1,239 respondents in Houston, Texas.
