Department of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, Institute of Materia Medica, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China.

Inflammation is critical to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). We have uncovered intrauterine inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) increases CVDs in adult offspring rats. The present study aimed to explore the role of prenatal exposure to LPS on the lipid profiles in male offspring rats and to further assess their susceptibility to high fat diet (HFD).

Background: High mobility group protein A2 (HMGA2) overexpression has been reported to be closely related to tumor progression [1-4] and indicate significantly worse overall survival in gastric cancer [5-8]. However, a final consensus regarding this issue has not yet been reached. Thus, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between HMGA2 expression and prognosis of gastric cancer patients.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, limited verbal communication and repetitive behaviors. Previous studies have shown that the level of Bcl-2 in the brain tissues of ASD patients is significantly decreased. However, the mechanisms underlie the down-regulation of Bcl-2 in ASD is still unknown.

Background: Limited information exists regarding the efficacy of pregabalin in Chinese patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (pDPN).

Methods: An 11-week double-blind placebo-controlled trial was performed in Chinese pDPN patients randomized (1 : 1) to 300 mg/day pregabalin or placebo. The primary outcome was change from baseline to endpoint in mean pain score (MPS; 0, no pain; 10, worst possible pain; using the mean of the last seven daily pain scores).

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, limited verbal communication and repetitive behaviors. Recent studies have demonstrated that Wnt signaling and mTOR signaling play important roles in the pathogenesis of ASD. However, the relationship of these two signaling pathways in ASD remains unclear.

Ischemic postconditioning renders brain tissue tolerant to brain ischemia, thereby alleviating ischemic brain injury. However, the exact mechanism of action is still unclear. In this study, a rat model of global brain ischemia was subjected to ischemic postconditioning treatment using the vessel occlusion method.

Objective: To study the clinical efficacy of nasal synchronous intermittent mandatory ventilation (nSIMV) in premature infants with severe respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) after extubation.

Methods: A retrospective analysis on the clinical date of 126 premature infants with severe RDS who were hospitalized in the NICU between January 2013 and May 2015 was performed. Sixty-one premature infants who were hospitalized in the NICU between January 2013 and March 2014 received nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) (nCPAP group) and 65 premature infants who were hospitalized in the NICU between April 2014 and May 2015 received nSIMV (nSIMV group).

Aims: To investigate the effects of resveratrol on high glucose (HG)-induced vascular injury, and to establish the mechanism(s) underlying these effects.

Main Methods: Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with glucose, and then incubated with resveratrol in the presence or absence of Compound C, an AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitor. Cell viability was determined using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) method.

Background: Calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate combination in a non-alcoholic, lipophilic gel formulation (two-compound gel) has previously been demonstrated as a safe and effective treatment for scalp psoriasis in Caucasian, Hispanic/Latino, and Black/African American populations. The purpose of this randomized, investigator-blinded, active-controlled, 4-week study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the two-compound gel in Chinese subjects with scalp psoriasis.

Method: Subjects were randomized in a 1 : 1 ratio to four weeks of treatment with either the two-compound gel once daily or calcipotriol scalp solution twice daily.

May 2015

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Southwest Hospital of Third Military Medical University, 30 Gaotanyan Main Street, Shapingba District, Chongqing, 400038, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: A congenital lower lip nevus is common, but a lower lip length lesion of more than 40% is hard to excise simply, without any distortion. We designed a lower lip bilateral advanced skin flap to restore the wound surface after completely and successfully removing the nevus.

Case Presentation: A 13-year-old Mongolian girl was referred to us with a giant congenital lower lip nevus.
