Background: The use of skeletal anchorage devices for maxillary protraction in patients with class III malocclusion due to deficiency in the middle third of the face has been shown to be a promising approach to treatment of these patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the treatment of class III patients with maxillary retrusion, using orthodontic mini-implants (MI) associated with intermaxillary elastics in comparison with the rapid maxillary expansion and facemask protocol (RME/FM).
Methods: In this prospective non-randomized clinical trial, the sample of 24 participants between 7 and 12 years of age (median age of 10.

Introduction: One of the goals of malocclusion treatment is to improve the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of patients. The aim of this trial was to assess the OHRQoL of children before, during, and after anterior open bite (AOB) correction, compared with nontreated children, in a 2-arm parallel single-blind randomized controlled trial.
Methods: Eighty children with AOB aged 8-10 years were randomly assigned to 2 groups (n = 40 each): a group treated with the use of fixed palatal crib (FPC; TG) and a control group (nontreated; CG).

Background: One's smile clearly plays a significant role in the perception and judgment that others have of one's appearance and personality.
Aim: We sought to develop and validate a questionnaire related to the social judgment of children and adolescents and to evaluate, through its application, the perceptions and judgment of children and adolescents regarding their view of different traumatic dental injuries and their consequences (TDIs-Cs) as well as the motivation to seek dental treatment.
Design: The aspects of acceptability, discriminative properties, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity were evaluated in the developed questionnaire.

Background: Enamel-dentin fracture causes impact on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children.
Aim: To evaluate the impact of treatment of crown fracture involving enamel and dentin (CFED) in the permanent dentition on the OHRQoL of children and adolescents (C/As) and their families.
Design: This prospective clinical study included C/As between 8 and 14 years who presented anterior CFED treated thought direct composite resin restoration.

Background/aims: Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) are a public health concern with high prevalence and recurrence rate. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine whether previous dental trauma is a predictive factor for new episodes of TDI (recurrence or first episodes).
Materials And Methods: Electronic searches were performed with no language or date restrictions.

Objective: To evaluate the influence on the perception of social characteristics after orthognathic treatment for the correction of Class II malocclusion.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with the participation of 240 observers who evaluated images of individuals before and after orthognathic surgery for the correction of malocclusion. Based on the images, two different questionnaires were applied containing 44 questions each for evaluating social competence, intellectual ability, psychological adjustment, and attractiveness.
This study aimed to compare the perception of smile esthetics and alterations among dentistry degree students and laypeople to identify differences in the esthetic perception of black spaces between the maxillary central incisors among Turkish laypeople and students in different study years. Photographs altered to include black spaces of various sizes at the midline were evaluated by 208 dentistry students in years 1-5 and 45 Turkish laypeople. Perceptional differences in different photographs were statistically significant.

This clinical case report presents the nonsurgical orthodontic treatment of a patient with skeletal Class II malocclusion, posterior crossbite, anterior open bite, accentuated dental discrepancies in both arches, and an odontoma. The proposed treatment involved maxillary expansion, extraction of atypical maxillary lateral incisors and mandibular first molars, and intrusion of maxillary teeth with the aid of mini-implants. The results obtained with these procedures included good tooth alignment, normal overbite and overjet, removal of the odontoma, and a harmonious smile.

Introduction: The aims of this study were to evaluate how head orientation interferes with the amounts of directional change in 3-dimensional (3D) space and to propose a method to obtain a common coordinate system using 3D surface models.
Methods: Three-dimensional volumetric label maps were built for pretreatment (T1) and posttreatment (T2) from cone-beam computed tomography images of 30 growing subjects. Seven landmarks were labeled in all T1 and T2 volumetric label maps.

Background: The aim of the present work was to evaluate the stress magnitudes and directions along the midpalatal suture in the maxillary protraction therapy.
Methods: The geometry of the maxilla and teeth were digitally reconstructed based on computer tomography images obtained from the skull of a girl in a mixed dentition stage with skeletal and dental class III malocclusion. An appliance commonly used for rapid palatal expansion (RPE) was also digitally modeled for anchorage of the protraction force and meshed for finite element analysis.

A 41-year-old man had a significant loss of bone and supporting tissues with pathologic migration of several teeth and several missing teeth. He was treated with an interdisciplinary therapeutic protocol that included nonsurgical periodontal therapy based on strict control of supragingival plaque, subgingival periodontal therapy, orthodontic and endodontic treatment, and replacement of restorations. The orthodontic therapy was performed in a severely reduced bone support and the presence of pathological tooth migration after periodontal disease control.
