Background: Rupture of the lumbar catheter in lumboperitoneal (LP) shunts is rare and typically occurs due to long-term mechanical stress. The authors describe an unusual case of early postoperative lumbar catheter severing after a fall on the buttocks.
Observations: A 78-year-old woman underwent LP shunt placement for communicating hydrocephalus after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Purpose: We retrospectively researched the treatment outcome of proton beam therapy (PBT) and assessed its efficacy for inoperable locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) at our institution.
Methods And Materials: Fifty-four patients (28 men and 26 women, median age 67 years ranging from 40-88 years) were diagnosed with unresectable stage III LAPC and administered PBT from April 2009 to March 2020. Patients who could not complete PBT, had new distant metastases during the treatment, or did not have enough follow-up time were excluded from this study.

In these areas, environmental factors, genetic background, and access to medical care can differ substantially from those in North America and western Europe, where multiple sclerosis is most common. Furthermore, multiple sclerosis diagnostic criteria have been developed primarily using data from North America and western Europe.

Purpose: The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate whether early urinary catheter removal is feasible during epidural anesthesia during gastrointestinal surgery in male patients at high risk for urinary retention.
Methods: Male patients who underwent radical surgery for gastric or colon cancer were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial. Patients were randomized 1:1 into 2 groups: the early group, in which the urinary catheter was removed before removal of the epidural catheter on the second or third postoperative day, and the late group, in which the urinary catheter was removed after removal of the epidural catheter.

Objectives: In myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein IgG-associated disease (MOGAD) and aquaporin-4 IgG+ neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (AQP4+NMOSD), the autoantibodies are mainly composed of IgG1, and complement-dependent cytotoxicity is a primary pathomechanism in AQP4+NMOSD. We aimed to evaluate the CSF complement activation in MOGAD.
Methods: CSF-C3a, CSF-C4a, CSF-C5a, and CSF-C5b-9 levels during the acute phase before treatment in patients with MOGAD (n = 12), AQP4+NMOSD (n = 11), multiple sclerosis (MS) (n = 5), and noninflammatory neurologic disease (n = 2) were measured.

Conventional rodent neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) models using patient-derived immunoglobulin G (IgG) are potentially affected by the differences between the human and rodent aquaporin-4 (AQP4) extracellular domains (ECDs). We hypothesized that the humanization of AQP4 ECDs would make the rodent model lesions closer to human NMOSD pathology. Humanized-AQP4-expressing (hAQP4) rats were generated using genome-editing technology, and the human AQP4-specific monoclonal antibody (mAb) or six patient-derived IgGs were introduced intraperitoneally into hAQP4 rats and wild-type Lewis (WT) rats after immunization with myelin basic protein and complete Freund's adjuvant.

Background: Inebilizumab, an anti-CD19 B-cell-depleting antibody, demonstrated safety and efficacy in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder in the randomised controlled period of the N-MOmentum trial. Here, end-of-study data, including the randomised controlled period and open-label extension period, are reported.
Methods: In the double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, phase 2/3 N-MOmentum trial, adults aged 18 years and older with an neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder diagnosis, Expanded Disability Status Scale score of 8·0 or less, and history of either at least one acute inflammatory attack requiring rescue therapy in the past year or two attacks requiring rescue therapy in the past 2 years, were recruited from 81 outpatient specialty clinics or hospitals in 24 countries.

Identifying the coexistence of Lewy body (LB) pathology with Alzheimer's disease (AD) in clinical practice is important in the era of anti-amyloid-β antibody therapy. However, few studies have predicted the presence of comorbid LB pathology with AD using indicative biomarkers of dementia with Lewy bodies or by collecting detailed clinical symptoms. We report the clinical progression of a 67-year-old patient diagnosed with AD who developed rapid eye movement sleep disorder-like symptoms and transient visual hallucinations 10 years after AD onset and was considered to have comorbid LB pathology based on imaging indicative biomarkers of dementia with Lewy bodies.

This prospective study aimed to investigate the direct association between swollen lymph nodes identified on preoperative computed tomography (CT) and pathological findings and proposed a cutoff value.
Patients And Methods: We enrolled patients scheduled to undergo curative surgery with lymph node dissection for colorectal adenocarcinoma who underwent preoperative contrast-enhanced CT and had swollen lymph nodes ≥7 mm in diameter.

Cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation is a rare encephalopathy characterized by inflammation against amyloid protein accumulated in cerebral small vessels. A 50-year-old man was presented with a subacute consciousness disorder. Brain MRI revealed high intensity lesions in the white matter of the right parietal and occipital lobes on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequences and cerebral microbleeds in the right parietal and occipital lobes on T2*-weighted images.

Peri-implant diseases, such as peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, are induced by dysbiotic microbiota resulting in the inflammatory destruction of peri-implant tissue. Nonetheless, there has yet to be an established protocol for the treatment of these diseases in a predictable manner, although many clinicians and researchers have proposed various treatment modalities for their management. With the increase in the number of reports evaluating the efficacy of various treatment modalities and new materials, the use of multiple decontamination methods to clean infected implant surfaces is recommended; moreover, the use of hard tissue laser and/or air abrasion techniques may prove advantageous in the future.
