Flow cytometry is a classic laser technology. With the discovery of the cytometer, flow cytometry has become a primary tool in biodiagnostic research. This review focuses on current applications of flow cytometry to the diagnosis of disease and treatment monitoring at the single-cell level.

To control drugs in vivo, new approaches are needed. Considerable progress has been made towards the applications of fluorine ((19)F) in pharmacotherapy in this regard. To date, many authors have showed that by using (19)F labelled drugs and non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques together, drug biodistribution can be tracked.

A robust and accurate center-frequency (CF) estimation (RACE) algorithm for improving the performance of the local sine-wave modeling (SinMod) method, which is a good motion estimation method for tagged cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) images, is proposed in this study. The RACE algorithm can automatically, effectively and efficiently produce a very appropriate CF estimate for the SinMod method, under the circumstance that the specified tagging parameters are unknown, on account of the following two key techniques: (1) the well-known mean-shift algorithm, which can provide accurate and rapid CF estimation; and (2) an original two-direction-combination strategy, which can further enhance the accuracy and robustness of CF estimation. Some other available CF estimation algorithms are brought out for comparison.

In the flanker paradigm, participants identify a target letter while attempting to ignore an irrelevant flanker. When the identity of this flanker mismatches the target, target identification is slowed (called the flanker compatibility effect). Interestingly, reducing the array set size greatly increases flanker compatibility effects.

Impulsivity is considered a personality trait affecting behavior in many life domains, from recreational activities to important decision making. When extreme, it is associated with mental health problems, such as substance use disorders, as well as with interpersonal and social difficulties, including juvenile delinquency and criminality. Yet, trait impulsivity may not be a unitary construct.

Background: We previously showed that the long-acting beta agonist (LABA) salmeterol as inhalation powder or metered-dose inhaler improves lung-function parameters assessed by impulse oscillometry (IOS) in 2- to 5-year-old children with reversible-airway disease within 15 minutes.
Objective: We studied 12- to 45-year-olds with mild persistent asthma in order to compare the onset and extent of peripheral airway effects following the first dose and after 4 weeks dosing with two inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)/LABA combinations: fluticasone propionate/salmeterol 115/21 and budesonide/formoterol 160/4.5.

The fast scanning calorimetry (FSC) was employed to investigate glass transition phenomena in vapor deposited amorphous solid water (ASW) films doped with acetic acid, pentanol, and carbon tetrachloride. In all three cases, FSC thermograms of doped ASW films show well pronounced glass transitions at temperatures near 180 K. Systematic FSC studies of the glass transition temperature and the excess heat capacity dependence on the concentration of impurities indicate the possible existence of two distinct non-crystalline phases of H2O in binary aqueous solutions.

The effect of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) during electrokinetic decontamination (EKD) was investigated in this research. EDTA is a ligand that can form soluble complexes with precipitated heavy metals inside soil pores. Millpond sludge, primarily contaminated with lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn), was subjected to EKD with and without the presence of EDTA.

Introduction: Educational technologies have had an important role in respiratory care. Distance learning via postal correspondence has been used extensively in respiratory care, and Internet-based distance learning is now used in the training of respiratory therapists (RTs), clinical continuing education, and in baccalaureate degree and higher programs for RTs and educators.
Objectives: To describe the current scope of respiratory care educational technology integration, including distance learning.

Fis is a nucleoid-associated protein in Escherichia coli that is abundant during early exponential growth in rich medium but is in short supply during stationary phase. Its role as a transcriptional regulator has been demonstrated for an increasing number of genes. In order to gain insight into the global effects of Fis on E.

Among health professions the field of respiratory care (RC) once enjoyed a leadership role in integrating new technologies in teaching, largely because of the excellent match between branching-logic clinical simulations and microcomputer technology. RC can reclaim leadership status by concentrating on effective teaching and the judicious (rather than lavish) deployment of educational technologies. Teleconferencing has been important in RC education, but its role is waning as Internet-based teaching becomes the dominant technology.

The propagation of guided elastic waves in a pre-stressed elastic compressible layer embedded in a different compressible material is examined. The waves propagate parallel to the planar layer interfaces as a superposed dynamic stress state on the statically pre-stressed layer and host material. The underlying stress condition in the two materials is characterized by equibiaxial in-plane deformations with common principal axes of strain, one of the axes being perpendicular to the layering.
