The prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has increased worldwide and IBD has been demonstrated to promote the development of colorectal cancer. The Rac family of proteins are involved in key mitogenic pathways. However, to the best of our knowledge, no prior studies have investigated the expression and role of Rac on colitis and colitis-associated cancer (CAC).

Background: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in premature infants is a predominantly secondary occurrence to intrauterine inflammation/infection and postpartum mechanical ventilation; The purpose of this study is to explore the biological roles of lincRNA in the pathogenesis of BPD.
Methods: Newborn rats were randomly assigned to hyperoxia (85% O) or the control group: the normoxia group (21% O). Lung tissues were collected on days 1-14.

Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5) is a major isoform of cGMP phosphodiesterase in diverse tissues and plays a critical role in regulating intracellular cGMP concentrations. However, the distribution and expression of PDE-5 in colitis-related colon cancer was still unclear, not even the function and mechanism. Western blotting and ELISA were performed to detect colonic PDE-5 expression in AOM/DSS-induced tumorigenesis model.

The effects of betel quid dependence (BQD) on biochemical changes remain largely unknown. Individuals with impaired cognitive control of behavior often reveal altered neurochemicals in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Imaging (MRSI) and those changes are usually earlier than structural alteration. Here, we examined BQD individuals (n = 33) and age-, sex-, and education-matched healthy control participants (n = 32) in an 2D (1)H-MRS study to observe brain biochemical alterations in the anterior cingulated cortex (ACC) associated with the severity of BQD and duration of BQD.

We conducted a case-control study in a Chinese population, and investigated the association between four SNPs (rs3791679, rs1346786, rs1344733 and rs727878) in EFEMP1 and development of glioma. A case-control study was taken in the present study. The rs3791679, rs1346786, rs1344733 and rs727878 gene polymorphisms were analyzed using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) assay.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and increasingly encountered complication in hospitalized patients with critical illness in intensive care units (ICU). According to the etiology, Sepsis-induced AKI (SAKI) is a leading contributor to AKI and significantly has very poor prognosis, which might be related to the late detection when the elevation of BUN and serum creatinine (SCr) is used. Many genes are up-regulated in the damaged kidney with the corresponding protein products appearing in plasma and urine.

The aim of this study was to explore the influence of combination therapy in different administration time on antihypertensive efficacy and blood pressure variability in patients with essential hypertension. A total of 86 patients with stage II to III essential hypertension were randomly divided into 4 groups: taking indapamide and losartan potassium together in the morning or in the evening 2 to 4 hours before sleep, indapamide in the morning and losartan potassium in the evening, losartan potassium in the morning and indapamide in the evening. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was performed before and 12 weeks after the medication.
