Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore the links between Caesarean Scar Diverticulum (CSD) and Chronic Endometritis (CE), focusing on risk factors and how CE affects symptoms of CSD.
  • - Analysis of 44 CSD patients and 20 controls revealed that both mild and severe CE significantly increase the risk of developing CSD, and also lead to symptoms like prolonged menstruation and lower haemoglobin levels.
  • - Findings suggest that the severity of CE correlates with the duration of menstruation and with the clinical symptoms related to CSD, indicating that endometrial inflammation plays a critical role in these conditions.

Department of Medical Oncology, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, 651 Dongfeng Road East, Guangzhou, 510060, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Lymphoma tissue biopsies may miss important genetic information due to their limited accessibility and genetic diversity, prompting this study to explore the effectiveness of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) for profiling and monitoring specific lymphomas like classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL), and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
  • The study analyzed tumor tissue and ctDNA from 155 lymphoma patients using next-generation sequencing, finding that ctDNA had a high agreement with tissue samples, revealing unique mutations and higher mutation frequencies, particularly in cHL.
  • Results indicated that ctDNA captures significant genomic alterations specific to each lymphoma type and can provide insights into

Institute and Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Shunde Hospital, Southern Medical University (The First People's Hospital of Shunde), No.1 of Jiazi Road, Lunjiao, Shunde District, Foshan City, 528308, Guangdong Province, China.

Background: Although several studies have found the relationship between essential elements and diabetes, the studies about the association of essential elements with diabetes diagnosed according to an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in a sex- and age-specific manner were limited. To investigate the linear and nonlinear relationship of five essential elements including iron (Fe), copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca) with diabetes, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2-h postprandial plasma glucose (PPG), and HbA1c and to evaluate the sex- and age-specific heterogeneities in these relationships.

Methods: A total of 8392 community-dwelling adults were recruited to complete a questionnaire and undergo checkups of anthropometric parameters and serum levels of five metals (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mg, and Ca).

Department of Geriatrics and Shenzhen Clinical Research Centre for Geriatrics, Department of Urology, Shenzhen People's Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital, Southern University of Science and Technology; The Second Clinical Medical College, Jinan University), Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Background: Chimeric antigen receptor natural killer (CAR-NK) therapy holds great promise for treating hematologic tumors, but its efficacy in solid tumors is limited owing to the lack of suitable targets and poor infiltration of engineered NK cells. Here, we explore whether immunogenic cell death (ICD) marker ERp57 translocated from endoplasmic reticulum to cell surface after drug treatment could be used as a target for CAR-NK therapy.

Methods: To target ERp57, a VHH phage display library was used for screening ERp57-targeted nanobodies (Nbs).

Surgery and targeted therapy are of equal importance for colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment. However, complete CRC tumor resection remains challenging, and new targeted agents are also needed for efficient CRC treatment. Cadherin 17 (CDH17) is a membrane protein that is highly expressed in CRC and, therefore, is an ideal target for imaging-guided surgery and therapeutics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how extracellular volume fraction (ECV) and arterial enhancement fraction (AEF) from enhanced CT can help distinguish between pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and atypical parotid adenocarcinoma (PCA) before surgery.
  • Researchers analyzed 187 cases of parotid tumors, using both clinical and CT image data to create different models for diagnosis, including combinations of clinical features with ECV and AEF.
  • Findings showed that the combined model (clinical features plus ECV and AEF) outperformed the clinical-only model in identifying the tumors, suggesting that including these CT-derived metrics enhances diagnostic accuracy.

Nanobody-Engineered Biohybrid Bacteria Targeting Gastrointestinal Cancers Induce Robust STING-Mediated Anti-Tumor Immunity.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

August 2024

Department of Geriatrics and Shenzhen Clinical Research Centre for Geriatrics, Department of Urology, Shenzhen People's Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital, Southern University of Science and Technology, The Second Clinical Medical College, Jinan University), Shenzhen, Guangdong, 518020, China.

Bacteria can be utilized for cancer therapy owing to their preferential colonization at tumor sites. However, unmodified non-pathogenic bacteria carry potential risks due to their non-specific targeting effects, and their anti-tumor activity is limited when used as monotherapy. In this study, a biohybrid-engineered bacterial system comprising non-pathogenic MG1655 bacteria modified with CDH17 nanobodies on their surface and conjugated with photosensitizer croconium (CR) molecules is developed.

In photoacoustic tomography (PAT), acoustic inversion aims to recover the spatial distribution of light energy deposition within the imaging object from the signals captured by detectors. To achieve quantitative imaging, optical inversion is further employed to derive absorption coefficient (AC) images. However, limitations such as restricted detection angles and inherent noise lead to substantial artifacts and degradation in the quality of PAT images, consequently affecting the accuracy of optical inversion results.

Background Context: Establishing good screw-bone structural stability is conducive to reducing the risk of postoperative screw loosening. Screw insertion torque is an objective index for evaluating screw-bone structural stability. Therefore, accurate prediction of screw insertion torque can improve the preoperative evaluation of patients, optimize the surgical plan, and improve the surgical effect.
