Introduction: Reverse osmosis (RO) membrane, key component of water-purifying equipment, is often stored in protection fluid containing substances such as glycerol, which may contaminate the water at replacement. This study aims to explore the effects of RO membrane replacement on clinical chemistry and immunoassay, particularly triglyceride (TG), providing reference for managing test interference caused by RO membrane replacement.
Materials And Methods: The RO membrane of water-purifying equipment A, which provided water to C16000 biochemistry analyzer (Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, USA) and E801 electrochemiluminescence analyzer (Roche, Basel, Switzerland), was replaced.

To investigate the relationship between cardio-metabolic abnormalities in the first trimester and adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO). This cohort study recruited singleton pregnancies in the first trimester (6-13 weeks of gestation) from Shenzhen Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital between January 1, 2021, and October 31, 2022. Cardiometabolic markers, including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG), were recorded during the first trimester.

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) refers to the decline of ovarian function before the age of 40. POI causes a reduction in or loss of female fertility, accompanied by different degrees of menopausal symptoms, which increases the risk of chronic diseases related to early menopause and seriously affects patients' quality of life and health. It is conservatively estimated that at least one million prepubertal girls and women of reproductive age in China are at risk of iatrogenic POI caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy every year.

Objective: To explore the correlation between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and periodontitis in light of cytokines levels, sex hormone levels and metabolism-related indicators and their changes during progression of the two diseases.
Methods: Twenty healthy subjects and 40 patients diagnosed with PCOS underwent full-mouth periodontal examinations to obtain full-mouth plaque score (FMPS), gingival bleeding index of probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), and clinical attachment level (CAL). The participants were divided into Group A without periodontitis or PCOS (=15), Group B with PCOS but without periodontitis (=28), Group C with periodontitis but without PCOS (=5), and Group D with both diseases (=12).

Psoriasis, a complex and recurrent chronic inflammatory skin disease involving various inflammatory cell types, requires effective cell communication to maintain the homeostatic balance of inflammation. However, patterns of communication at the single-cell level have not been systematically investigated. In this study, we employed social network analysis tools, pattern recognition, and manifold learning to compare molecular communication features between psoriasis cells and normal skin cells.

Background: To determine the carrier frequency of, and evaluate a carrier screening program for, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in reproductive age women in Shenzhen area.
Methods: A staged screening procedure was used to perform carrier screening for SMA in 22,913 Chinese reproductive age women between 2019 and 2022 in Shenzhen area of China. First, the copy number of exon 7 in the SMN1 gene were detected in women of reproductive age using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.

Background: With the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic in schools and communities, clinical evidence is needed to determine the impact of the pandemic and public health interventions under the zero coronavirus disease policy on the occurrence of common infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases among children.
Methods: The current study was designed to analyse the occurrence of common infectious diseases before and after the pandemic outbreak in southern China. Data was obtained for 1 801 728 patients admitted into children's hospitals in Guangzhou between January 2017 and July 2022.

Introduction: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a significant public health challenge, but there is a perceived lack of political priority in addressing STIs as a global health issue. Our study aimed to understand the determinants of global political priority for STIs since the 1980s and to discern implications for future prioritisation.
Methods: Through semistructured interviews from July 2021 to February 2022, we engaged 20 key stakeholders (8 women, 12 men) from academia, United Nations agencies, international non-governmental organisations, philanthropic organisations and national public health agencies.

Background: Refractory diabetic wounds are a common occurrence in patients with diabetes and epidermis-specific macroautophagy/autophagy impairment has been implicated in their pathogenesis. Therefore, identifying and developing treatment strategies capable of normalizing epidermis-specific macroautophagy/autophagy could facilitate diabetic wound healing. The study aims to investigate the potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (BMSC-exos) from hypoxic conditions as a treatment to normalize epidermis-specific autophagy for diabetic wound healing.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is now globally recognized as a critical public health concern. Vascular calcification (VC) represents a significant risk factor for cardiovascular events in individuals with CKD. It is the accessible and precise diagnostic biomarkers for monitoring the progression of CKD and the concurrent VC are urgently needed.

Triptolide, a natural bioactive compound derived from herbal medicine Tripterygium wilfordii, has multiple biological activities including anti-cancer effect, which is being tested in clinical trials for treating cancers. However, the exact mechanism by which Triptolide exerts its cytotoxic effects, particularly its specific protein targets, remains unclear. Here, we show that Triptolide effectively induces cytotoxicity in gastric cancer cells by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels.

To verify the protective effect of circDNAJB6 on Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) cell and animal models and to explore the possible mechanism of its protective effect. The function of circDNAJB6 was investigated at the cell and animal levels. Nuclear and Cytoplasmic RNA extraction kits and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were used to explore the distribution of circDNAJB6 in cells, and the potential mechanism of circDNAJB6 was verified by q-PCR, luciferase assays and rescue experiments.

Ultrasound has been demonstrated to activate mechanosensitive channels, which is considered the main mechanism of ultrasound neuromodulation. Currently, all channels that have been shown to be sensitive to ultrasound are cation channels. In addition to cation channels, anion channels also play indispensable roles in neural function.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is a man-made chemical broadly distributed in various ecological environment and human bodies, which poses potential health risks. Its toxicity, especially the male reproduction toxicity has drawn increasing attention due to declining birth rates in recent years. However, how PFOA induces male reproductive toxicity remains unclear.

Preeclampsia is a multifactorial and heterogeneous complication of pregnancy. Here, we utilize single-cell RNA sequencing to dissect the involvement of circulating immune cells in preeclampsia. Our findings reveal downregulation of immune response in lymphocyte subsets in preeclampsia, such as reduction in natural killer cells and cytotoxic genes expression, and expansion of regulatory T cells.

Accurate segmentation of the thyroid gland in ultrasound images is an essential initial step in distinguishing between benign and malignant nodules, thus facilitating early diagnosis. Most existing deep learning-based methods to segment thyroid nodules are learned from only a single view or two views, which limits the performance of segmenting nodules at different scales in complex ultrasound scanning environments. To address this limitation, this study proposes a multi-view learning model, abbreviated as MLMSeg.

Hypertrophic scar (HS) formation is a cutaneous fibroproliferative disease that occurs after skin injuries and results in severe functional and esthetic disability. To date, few drugs have shown satisfactory outcomes for the treatment of HS formation. Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β)/Notch interaction via small mothers against decapentaplegic 3 (Smad3) could facilitate HS formation; therefore, targeting TGF-β/ Notch interaction via Smad3 is a potential therapeutic strategy to attenuate HS formation.
