This study aimed at quantifying the potential effects of plant and soil microbial interaction on selenium (Se) volatilization, with the specific objectives of identifying soil bacteria associated with rabbitfoot grass () and demonstrating the enhancement of Se volatilization in the soil-Indian mustard () system through inoculation of the soil with the identified best Se-volatilizing bacterial strain. Soil bacteria were isolated from topsoil and rhizosphere soils of rabbitfoot grass, and the bacterial colonies were characterized via PCR-DGGE and DGGE band analysis prior to their identification using 16S rDNA sequencing technique. produced over 500-fold more volatile Se in a culture medium treated with 15 µg Se/mL (equal mixture of SeO , SeO and selenomethionine) than any of the other eight identified bacterial strains.

Somatostatin receptor-4 (SST) is a therapeutic target for several conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, seizures, neuropsychiatric disorders, and pain. Our previous work on 1,2,4-triazole derivatives led to enhanced SST binding affinity, selectivity, and functional activity. Herein we report the discovery of 3-thio-1,2,4-triazole series as selective and high affinity SST agonists.

With the expanding use of phosphates as leaving groups in sialylations, little remains known about the C-5 effect towards their reactivity and stereoselectivity in the presence of a range of acceptors, and in different solvents. Herein we report the comparison between sialyl phosphate donors bearing N-acetyloxazolidinone and trifluoroacetamido functionalities at C-5. Excellent results and complete stereoselectivity were observed in several sialylations, but the outcome was influenced by the nature of the solvent and/or glycosyl acceptor.

is one of the most important plant-pathogenic fungi that causes disease on wheat and maize, as it decreases yield in both crops and produces mycotoxins that pose a risk to human and animal health. Resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB) in wheat is well studied and documented. However, resistance to Gibberella ear rot (GER) in maize is less understood, despite several similarities with FHB.

Flipped teaching (FT) is an instructional approach centered around students, displacing traditional lectures from the classroom to make room for active learning. Retrieval practice can enhance content recall. This study investigated the effectiveness of lecture-style teaching (TT), FT, and a combination of retrieval practice with FT (FTR) in a physiology course over four consecutive semesters.

Introduction: Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Standards require reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities in an educational setting. There is limited information regarding preceptor experiences and perspectives associated with accommodations in the pharmacy experiential learning environment. This study examined preceptor experiences and viewpoints and explored opportunities for schools/colleges of pharmacy (S/COP) to provide support and education for preceptors when meeting access needs.

Science is often portrayed as a meritocratic endeavor, but university biology programs exhibit high rates of student attrition, particularly among students of Color, despite similar interest and aptitude for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as White students. Culturally relevant pedagogy is associated with student persistence in STEM. One way to practice culturally relevant pedagogy in biology courses is to engage students in discussions of race, racism, or racial equity.

Acquiring sufficient blood for hormone analysis in mice can be a limiting step. Hormone analysis techniques using non-invasive sample collection have been vigorously developed for endangered species, from whom blood sampling is prohibited, or from species that are otherwise difficult to handle in a laboratory setting. Because there are interactions between glucocorticoids and thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), reducing the animal's "distress" during sample collection is imperative.

As reproduction phenologies shift with climate change, populations can experience intraspecific priority effects, wherein early hatching cohorts experience an advantage over late-hatching cohorts, resulting in altered demography. Our study objective was to identify how variation in egg hatching phenology alters intraspecific interactions in small-mouthed salamanders, Ambystoma texanum. We addressed two research questions: (Q1) How are demographic responses altered by variation in the temporal duration of hatching between cohorts, and (Q2) How does the seasonality of hatching delays affect demographic responses? We manipulated hatching phenologies of A.

The transmembrane protein β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) is central to the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The β-amyloid hypothesis posits that aberrant processing of APP forms neurotoxic β-amyloid aggregates, which lead to the cognitive impairments observed in AD. Although numerous additional factors contribute to AD, there is a need to better understand the synaptic function of APP.
