The role of S-nitrosylation of PFKM in regulation of glycolysis in ovarian cancer cells.

Cell Death Dis

April 2021

Cancer Research Institute, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Cancer Immunotherapy, Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Tumor Immunology Research, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510515, China.

One of the malignant transformation hallmarks is metabolism reprogramming, which plays a critical role in the biosynthetic needs of unchecked proliferation, abrogating cell death programs, and immunologic escape. However, the mechanism of the metabolic switch is not fully understood. Here, we found that the S-nitrosoproteomic profile of endogenous nitrogen oxide in ovarian cancer cells targeted multiple components in metabolism processes.

Extended transcriptome analysis reveals genome-wide lncRNA-mediated epigenetic dysregulation in colorectal cancer.

Comput Struct Biotechnol J

November 2020

Bioinformatics Section, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou 510515, China.

It is estimated that the rate of epigenetic changes may be orders of magnitude higher than that of genetic changes and that purely epigenetic mechanisms may explain why cancers arise with few or no recurrent mutations. However, supporting evidence remains limited, partly due to the cost of experimentally studying genome-wide epigenetic dysregulation. Since genome modification enzymes are recruited by long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) to specific genomic sites, analyzing differentially expressed genes and differentially methylated regions (DMRs) at the DNA binding sites of differentially expressed lncRNAs is important for uncovering epigenetic dysregulation.

Background: Secondary prevention in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) is critically important to prevent ischaemic heart failure and reduce social burden. Pioglitazone improves vascular dysfunction and prevents coronary atherosclerosis, mainly via anti-inflammatory and antiatherogenic effects by enhancing adiponectin production in addition to antihyperglycemic effects, thus suggesting that pioglitazone attenuates cardiovascular events in patients with mild (HbA1c levels < 6·5%) diabetes mellitus (DM). Therefore, we evaluated the effects of pioglitazone on cardiovascular events in patients with both previous MI and mild DM.
