Prolyl-4-hydroxylase subunit alpha3 (P4HA3) is a triple helical procollagen synthesis protein. The role of P4HA3 in cancer development is not well known and lacks comprehensive analyses among human cancers. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between P4HA3 expression and anti-tumor immunity and its prognostic value in pan-cancer.

Purpose: Post-traumatic cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (ptCVT) is a rare but serious complication of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Managing ptCVT is challenging due to the concurrent risk of traumatic intracranial hematoma (ICH) expansion. Limited data exists on the safety and efficacy of anticoagulation therapy (ACT) in these cases.

The aim of the present study was to explore the functional mechanism of NF-Kappa B-interacting Long non-protein coding RNA (NKILA) in breast malignant phyllodes tumors (BMPTs). The expression and functional role of NKILA were investigated by performing qRT‒PCR, Transwell assays, and CCK‒8 assays in primary BMPT cells. A Kaplan‒Meier curve was used to assess overall survival (OS) and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS).

Because of its insensitivity to existing radiotherapy, namely, chemotherapy and targeted treatments, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains a great challenge to overcome. Increasing evidence has indicated abnormal Wnt/β-catenin pathway activation in TNBC but not luminal or HER2+ breast cancer, and lncRNAs play a key role in a variety of cancers. Through lncRNA microarray profiling between activated and inactivated Wnt/β-catenin pathway of TNBC tissues, lnc-WAL (Wnt/β-catenin-associated lncRNA; WAL) was selected as the top upregulated lncRNA in Wnt/β-catenin pathway activation compared with the inactivation group.

Melanized focal changes (MFCs) in the fillet of farmed Atlantic salmon is a major quality concern. The changes are thought to initially appear as acute red focal changes (RFCs) that progress into chronic MFCs. Recent findings have indicated that hypoxia may be important in their development, possibly leading to necrosis affecting not only myocytes but also adipocytes.

Background: The descending genicular artery (DGA) and medial thigh region have been underused as donor sites for perforator flaps. This study evaluated the anatomical relationship between the perforators of the DGA and the saphenous vein (SV) to review the clinical applications of the free descending genicular artery perforator (DGAP) flap for locoregional reconstruction.
Methods: Fifteen cadavers were arterially perfused with red latex and dissected.

Background: Short-term poor uterine involution manifests as uterine contraction weakness. This is one of the important causes of postpartum hemorrhage, posing a serious threat to the mother's life and safety. The study aims to investigate whether low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFUS) can effectively shorten lochia duration, alleviate postpartum complications, and accelerate uterine involution compared with the sham treatment.

Introduction: Traumatic subaxial fractures account for more than half of all cervical spine injuries. The optimal surgical approach is a matter of debate and may include anterior, posterior or a combined anteroposterior (360º) approach. Analyzing a cohort of patients initially treated with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) for traumatic subaxial injuries, the study aimed to identify predictors for treatment failure and the subsequent need for supplementary posterior fusion (PF).

Background Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is effective in the treatment of hip osteoarthritis. Radiographic evaluation, standard in THA planning, is sufficient in examining hip anatomy, although it may not precisely assess bone quality. A routinely implemented method in bone quality assessment is densitometry.

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) is the result of bone mass reduction and bone structure disorder. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are the main source of osteogenic precursor cells involved in adult bone remodeling. The involvement of the deubiquitinating enzyme CYLD in OP has recently been discovered.

Background: Our aim was to examine the prevalence and characteristics of difficult-to-treat HIV in the current Swedish HIV cohort and to compare treatment outcomes between people with difficult and non-difficult-to-treat HIV.
Methods: In this cross-sectional analysis of the Swedish HIV cohort, we identified all people with HIV currently in active care in 2023 from the national register InfCareHIV. We defined five categories of difficult-to-treat HIV: 1) advanced resistance, 2) four-drug regimen, 3) salvage therapy, 4) virologic failure within the past 12 months, and 5) ≥ 2 regimen switches following virologic failure since 2008.

Medical simulation has become an integral aspect of modern healthcare education and practice. It has evolved to become an essential aspect of teaching core concepts and skills, common and rare presentations, algorithms and protocols, communication, interpersonal and teamworking skills and testing new equipment and systems. Simulation-based learning (SBL) is useful for the novice to the senior clinician.

Objective: Endometriosis presents diagnostic challenges, and there is a need for developing novel biomarkers with satisfactory specificity and sensitivity. Glycomics, exploring glycosylation changes in glycoproteins, offers potential solutions. The aim of this study was to analyze the carbohydrate-binding properties of IgG and IgM antibodies in the plasma and peritoneal fluid samples and to identify any differences in the presence and the specificities of anti-carbohydrate antibodies in the endometriosis patient and the controls.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) therapy in facilitating fundus descent and relieving postpartum breast pain compared with sham treatment. A multicentre, randomised, sham-controlled, blinded trial was conducted. A cohort of 176 eligible participants, who had normal prenatal check-ups and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were recruited from three medical centres and subsequently randomized into either the LIFU or sham group.

Introduction: Endometriosis is an inflammatory-related reproductive age disease characterized by the presence of endometrial cells outside the uterine cavity. Current laboratory practice does not provide specific markers for detecting and assessing the advancement of endometriosis in either plasma or peritoneal fluid. The severity of disease is assessed in stages from I to IV based on the results of laparoscopic inspection.

Contusion expansion (CE) is a potentially treatable outcome predictor in traumatic brain injury (TBI), and a suitable end-point for hemostatic therapy trials. However, there is no consensus on the definition of clinically relevant CE, both in terms of measurement criteria (absolute vs. relative volume increase) and cutoff values.

High-mobility group protein box 1 (HMGB1) is a cytokine with multiple functions (according to its subcellular location) that serves a marker of inflammation. CSF HMGB1 could be the part of pathological mechanisms that underlie the complications associated with CNS diseases. HMGB1 actively or passively released into the CSF is detected in the CSF in many diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) and thus may be useful as a biomarker.

Background: Despite the fact that many synovial fluid biomarkers have found application in the routine diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), this process still remains a challenge for orthopaedic surgeons. To simplify this process, fast point-of-care (POC) tests can be used during ambulatory visits and in operating room conditions. However, before such tests can be routinely used in clinical practice, they require validation.

Introduction: Postoperative seroma and pain are common problems following laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) repair of ventral hernias. These adverse outcomes may be avoided by dissecting and using the peritoneum in the hernial sac to bridge the hernia defect.
Methods: This was a patient- and outcome assessor-blinded, parallel-design, randomized controlled trial comparing nonclosure and peritoneal bridging approaches in patients scheduled for elective midline ventral hernia repair.
