Objectives: RESCUEicp studied decompressive craniectomy (DC) applied as third-tier option in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients in a randomized controlled setting and demonstrated a decrease in mortality with similar rates of favorable outcome in the DC group compared to the medical management group. We describe a risk adjustment algorithm to benchmark and report free flap failure rates after immediate reconstruction of head and neck defects. A dataset of surgical care episodes for curative surgery for head and neck cancer and immediate reconstruction (n = 1593) was compiled from multiple NHS hospitals (n = 8). The outcome variable was complete flap failure.

Mohr-Tranebjærg syndrome is an X-linked syndrome characterized by sensorineural hearing impairment in childhood, followed by progressive neurodegeneration leading to a broad phenotypic spectrum. Genetically MTS is caused by pathogenic variants in the TIMM8A gene, including gene deletions and larger contiguous gene deletions. Some of the latter involve the neighboring gene BTK, resulting in agammaglobulinemia.

Background: The choice of antibiotic, and the use of single or combined therapy are controversial areas in the treatment of respiratory infection due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cystic fibrosis (CF). Advantages of combination therapy include wider range of modes of action, possible synergy and reduction of resistant organisms; advantages of monotherapy include lower cost, ease of administration and reduction of drug-related toxicity. Current evidence does not provide a clear answer and the use of intravenous antibiotic therapy in CF requires further evaluation.
