Chronic hepatitis B is a global health problem affecting approximately 350 million to 400 million individuals worldwide, and mother to child transmission remains the major mode of transmission. Approximately 50% of chronically infected individuals acquire infection, either perinatally or early in childhood, predominantly in areas where hepatitis B virus (HBV) is endemic. Goals/background: Data on acute variceal hemorrhage (AVH) in the United States is limited and the best method to stratify risk is not clear. Taking advantage of a prospective US cohort study, we aimed to (1) describe clinical outcomes of AVH and their predictors; (2) compare predictors of 6-week mortality.
Study: Prospective 15-center US cohort of patients with cirrhosis presenting with endoscopically proven AVH, all of whom received antibiotics, vapreotide (a somatostain analog) infusion and endoscopic band ligation.
Unlabelled: Retreatment of patients who have not achieved sustained virological response (SVR) after treatment with investigational direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) has not been extensively studied. We conducted an open-label trial to assess the efficacy and safety of sofosbuvir (SOF) plus pegylated interferon (Peg-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV) in patients with genotype 1 hepatitis C virus (HCV) who participated in previous studies of one or more Gilead investigational DAAs in combination with RBV with or without Peg-IFN. We enrolled 80 patients at 40 sites.
