Cardiovascular and Osteoporosis Protection at Menopause with Lycopene: A Placebo-Controlled Double-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial.

Objective: The effect of lycopene (LycoRed) supplementation was evaluated in healthy postmenopausal women by biochemical markers for cardiovascular protection and osteoporosis protection.

Study Settings And Design: This was a multi-centric placebo-controlled double-blind randomized clinical trial that screened 198 postmenopausal women at 21 centers across 12 cities in India. Levels of lycopene, lipid profile, high-risk C-reactive protein, and bone turnover markers: amino-terminal propeptide of Type I collagen (P1NP) and C-terminal telopeptide of Type I collagen (β-CTx) were measured at baseline and 6 months postsupplementation with LycoRed or placebo.

Effect of Insulin Sensitizers on Raised Serum Anti-mullerian Hormone Levels in Infertile Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Context: Increased circulating insulin levels contribute to hyperandrogenism in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which causes a derangement in folliculogenesis, thus contributing to polycystic morphogenesis of the ovaries and a higher than normal anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH). A high AMH is an indicator of either stubborn anovulation or a predictor of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Hence, it is postulated that the use of insulin sensitizers will reduce insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism, and subsequently serum AMH levels and will convert anovulatory cycles to ovulatory.

ART outcome in young women with premature ovarian aging.

Background: Young women with signs of ovarian aging are a matter of concern as far as their reproductive performance is concerned. With more women approaching infertility centers with this problem, it becomes necessary to understand what reproductive outcomes are possible in such cases. Female age and basal Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level, both are strong independent predictors of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) outcome.

True Mirena failure: Twin pregnancy with Mirena in situ.

Mirena levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is a very reliable method of contraception with the failure rate comparable to sterilization. We present a case of failure of the Mirena intrauterine device in situ in a woman with twin gestational sac with positive Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (β HCG) within 2 years of insertion. Although LNG-IUS is one of the most effective methods of contraception, the risks of failure should always be kept in mind and the women be appropriately counseled before its use.
