High-capacity communication networks are built to provide high throughput and low latency to accommodate the growing demand for bandwidth. However, the provision of these features is subject to a robust underlying network, which can provide high capacity with maximum reliability in terms of the system's connection availability. This work optimizes an existing 2D spectral-spatial optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) passive optical network (PON) to maximize connection availability while maintaining desirable communication capacity and capital expenditure.

Homicidal poisoning has received limited scholarly attention, despite having recently increased in frequency in China, especially in rural areas, where it causes numerous deaths and disabilities. In this study, the author collected data on 106 cases of homicidal poisoning from 1995 to 2000. Of these cases 105 were found through website established by the Supreme Court of China, and one case was as an exception identified from the internet.

The effect of a high-entropy design on martensitic transformation and magnetic field-induced strain has been investigated in the present study for Ni-Mn-Ga-Co-Gd ferromagnetic shape-memory alloys. The purpose was to increase the martensitic transition temperature, as well as the magnetic field-induced strain, of these materials. The results show that there is a co-existence of β, γ, and martensite phases in the microstructure of the alloy samples.

Introduction: Intracranial artery stenosis is the most common cause of acute ischemic stroke, especially among people in Asia. About its epidemiology, however little is understood. The goal of our research is to establish the prevalence of intracranial artery stenosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke in a tertiary care hospital.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the degenerative medial meniscus and traumatic lesions on the biomechanical behavior of the knee. An elaborate three-dimensional (3D) finite element model of the total knee joint containing bones, articular cartilages, main ligaments, and menisci was developed from a combination of magnetic resonance images and computed tomography. Three types of meniscus tears were employed to represent the degenerative and traumatic lesions.

Background: During the progression of chronic heart failure (CHF), decreased cardiac functioning is often associated with congestion in the inferior vena vein, which in turn induces splenomegaly and subsequent hypersplenism. Hypersplenism has been shown to exacerbate endothelial dysfunction and adverse cardiac remodeling in HF mice. However, it is unknown whether this effect also occurs in CHF patients with hypersplenism.

Our present study tested the effect of decreased Ly6C(high) monocytes on mouse MSCs transplantation after AMI.
Methods: BALB/c AMI mice were treated systemically with a CCR2 antagonist (RS 504393, 2 mg/kg, subcutaneously) or normal saline (control group).

This study aimed to evaluate the potential associations of intermediate monocytes (CD14(++)CD16(+)) with myocardial remodelling in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients with diabetes.A total of 67 STEMI patients with diabetes were enrolled. The control group consisted of 65 STEMI patients without diabetes.
