Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Recent research has identified gut dysbiosis - an imbalance in the gut microbiota - as a significant factor in the development of CVDs. This complex relationship between gut microbiota and cardiovascular health involves various mechanisms, including the production of metabolites such as trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs).

Background Context: This study's purpose was to evaluate the biomechanical performance of plate-nail and dual-plate fixation for the treatment of AO/OTA 41-C2 tibial plateau fractures.

Methods: Twenty synthetic tibias were selected and randomly divided into a plate-nail group ( = 10) and a dual-plate group ( = 10). After the artificial tibias were osteotomized to simulate AO/OTA 41-C2 tibial plateau fractures in both groups, the plate-nail and the dual-plate methods, respectively, were used for fixation, and then axial compression loading, three-point bending, torsion, and axial failure tests were carried out.

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, The Affiliated Southeast Hospital of Xiamen University, Zhangzhou 363000, China; Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital, Fuzhou 350000, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To analyze the effects of the angle between dynamic hip screw (DHS) and anti-rotation screw (AS) on vertically oriented femoral neck fractures (VOFNFs) and investigate the clinical results of them.

Methods: Eighteen synthetic femurs were simulated and divided into 3 groups. The angle between DHS and AS in anteroposterior-view was marked as α, and in lateral-view was marked as β, thus the total angle (TA) was defined as the summation of α and β.

Increased low frequency cortical oscillations are observed in people with neuropathic pain, but the cause of such elevated cortical oscillations and their impact on pain development remain unclear. By imaging neuronal activity in a spared nerve injury (SNI) mouse model of neuropathic pain, we show that neurons in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and somatosensory cortex (S1) exhibit synchronized activity after peripheral nerve injury. Notably, synchronized activity of DRG neurons occurs within hours after injury and 1-2 days before increased cortical oscillations.
