This study investigated the predictive value of combining peripheral blood indicators with procalcitonin clearance rate (PCTc) to assess mortality risk in cancer patients with sepsis, aiming to develop a more sensitive and specific clinical tool. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 393 cancer patients with sepsis admitted to South China Hospital of Shenzhen University from January 2019 to January 2024. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine whether ultrasound guidance can reduce the duration, blood loss volume and invasiveness of surgery for internal fixator removal.

Enhanced Recognition of a Herbal Compound Epiberberine by a DNA Quadruplex-Duplex Structure.

The small molecule epiberberine (EPI) is a natural alkaloid with versatile bioactivities against several diseases including cancer and bacterial infection. EPI can induce the formation of a unique binding pocket at the 5' side of a human telomeric G-quadruplex (HTG) sequence with four telomeric repeats (Q4), resulting in a nanomolar binding affinity ( approximately 26 nM) with significant fluorescence enhancement upon binding. It is important to understand (1) how EPI binding affects HTG structural stability and (2) how enhanced EPI binding may be achieved through the engineering of the DNA binding pocket.

Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS), a cytosolic DNA sensor that initiates a STING-dependent innate immune response, binds tightly to chromatin, where its catalytic activity is inhibited; however, mechanisms underlying cGAS recruitment to chromatin and functions of chromatin-bound cGAS (ccGAS) remain unclear. Here we show that mTORC2-mediated phosphorylation of human cGAS serine 37 promotes its chromatin localization in colorectal cancer cells, regulating cell growth and drug resistance independently of STING. We discovered that ccGAS recruits the SWI/SNF complex at specific chromatin regions, modifying expression of genes linked to glutaminolysis and DNA replication.
