Diphenyl ethers (DPEs) are produced by filamentous fungi using polyketide synthases (PKSs) directly, or Cu oxidase-catalyzed oxidative rearrangements of benzophenone intermediates. Here, we use heterologous expression to reveal a third route towards DPEs in that relies on an oxidative multienzyme cascade to convert a PKS-generated, ester-linked didepside to depsidones and further to DPEs, and apply comparative genomics to identify conserved biosynthetic gene clusters for this pathway in multiple fungi. The distribution of DPE products is modulated by the expression chassis upon pathway reconstitution.

Cyclic peptides represent invaluable scaffolds in biological affinity, providing diverse collections for discovering functional molecules targeting challenging biological entities and protein-protein interactions. The field increasingly focuses on developing cyclization strategies and chemically modified combinatorial libraries in conjunction with M13 phage display, to identify macrocyclic peptide inhibitors for traditionally challenging targets. Here, we introduce a cyclization strategy utilizing -phthalaldehyde (OPA) for the discovery of active macrocycles characterized by asymmetric scaffolds with side-chain cyclization.

This study aims to explore the potential mechanism of Biejiajian Pills in the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) based on lipidomics. A mouse model of NASH was induced by high-fat/high cholesterol diet, and the mice of the normal group were fed with a normal diet. The therapeutic efficacy of Biejiajian Pills against NASH was evaluated through biochemical indexes in both of serum and liver, as well as the hepatic histopathology.

Drug resistance is a major challenge for cancer treatment, and its identification is crucial for medical research. However, since drug resistance is a multi-faceted phenomenon, it is important to simultaneously evaluate multiple target fluctuations. Recently developed fluorescence-based probes that can simultaneously respond to multiple targets offer many advantages for real-time and monitoring of cellular metabolism, including ease of operation, rapid reporting, and their non-invasive nature.

Freezing has been reported to accelerate chemical reactions and thus affect the fate of pollutants in the environment. However, little research has been conducted on the potential effects of freezing on the chlorination process. This study aimed to explore the freezing-enhanced chlorination process by comparing the oxidation of clofibric acid (CA) by chlorine in ice (at -20 °C) to the same reaction in water (at 25 °C).

Elastic MXene conductive layers and electrolyte engineering enable robust potassium storage.

Chem Sci

February 2024

Institutes of Physical Science and Information Technology, Key Laboratory of Structure and Functional Regulation of Hybrid Material (Ministry of Education), Anhui University Hefei 230601 China

The precisely engineered structures of materials greatly influence the manifestation of their properties. For example, in the process of alkali metal ion storage, a carefully designed structure capable of accommodating inserted and extracted ions will improve the stability of material cycling. The present study explores the uniform distribution of self-grown carbon nanotubes to provide structural support for the conductive and elastic MXene layers of TiCT-Co@NCNTs.

School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Guangzhou 510405, China Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Beijing 100700, China.

Neuropathic pain(NP) has similar phenotypes but different sequential neuroinflammatory mechanisms in the pathological process. It is of great significance to inhibit the initiation of neuroinflammation, which has become a new direction of NP treatment and drug development in recent years. Mongolian drug Naru-3 is clinically effective in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, sciatica, and other NPs in a short time, but its pharmacodynamic characteristics and mechanism of analgesia are still unclear.

Uniform and well-defined octahedral Rh nanocrystals were rapidly synthesized in a domestic microwave oven for only 140 s of irradiation by reducing Rh(acac) with tetraethylene glycol (TEG) as both a solvent and a reducing agent in the presence of an appropriate amount of KI, didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC), ethylene diamine (EDA) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). KI, DDAC and EDA were essential for the creation of octahedral Rh nanocrystals. Electrochemical measurements showed a significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity and stability for the as-prepared octahedral Rh nanocrystals compared with commercial Rh black.
