This study aims to identify the role of subjective factors (age, sex, and comorbidities) and procedure-specific factors (aspiration volume) in influencing the yield of progenitor cells in bone marrow aspiration concentrate (BMAC) harvested from the iliac crest. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 58 patients (male:female = 31:27; mean age: 52.56 ± 18.

Adhesive Capsulitis of Hip-A Systematic Review of Literature.

Indian J Orthop

February 2023

Indian Orthopaedic Rheumatology Association (IORA), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh India.

Introduction: Adhesive capsulitis is clinically characterized by the gradual progressive painful loss of active and passive motion caused by the formation of adhesions of the joint capsule. Adhesive Capsulitis of the Hip (ACH) is not a well-explored clinical condition when compared to adhesive capsulitis of shoulder because of the underdiagnosis and rarity of this condition

Materials And Methods: Cochrane, Scopus, Pubmed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched for original studies on ACH till December 2021 following Cochrane and PRISMA guidelines. Year of publication, authors, number of cases, baseline characteristics of the studies, causes described, presentation, associated conditions, method of diagnosis, treatment to be given, functional outcomes, and complications was extracted from each study.

The human monkeypox virus (MPV), a zoonotic illness that was hitherto solely prevalent in Central and West Africa, has lately been discovered to infect people all over the world and has become a major threat to global health. Humans unintentionally contract this zoonotic orthopoxvirus, which resembles smallpox, when they come into contact with infected animals. Studies show that the illness can also be transferred through frequent proximity, respiratory droplets, and household linens such as towels and bedding.

Management of relapses and refractory rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients is complex and difficult. Even after the administration of new biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), only a few patients achieve the complete remission phase. DMARDs help only in modifying the disease activity, which sooner or later fails.

Producing tremendous amounts of stress and financial burden on the global patient population and healthcare systems around the world, most current modalities of treatment for musculoskeletal ailments often do not address the etiopathogenetic causes of these disorders. Regenerative medicine for musculoskeletal disorders relies on orthobiologics derived from either allogenic or autologous sources. Multiple drawbacks are associated with autologous sources, including donor-site morbidity, a dearth of studies, and variability in both patient reported and clinical/functional outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Amniotic fluid (AF) is crucial for fetal development and contains regenerative progenitor cells, but recent research highlights the benefits of cell-free amniotic fluid (cfAF), which is made up of soluble components and extracellular vesicles.
  • Studies show that cfAF can enhance healing by promoting immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-growth effects on target cells, and it helps restore cells to a normal state after stress or disease.
  • Although the exact mechanisms of these effects are still being explored, cfAF has shown promise in treating skin wounds and possibly joint conditions, suggesting it has broader therapeutic applications pending further research.

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Wound Healing.

Life (Basel)

October 2022

Indian Stem Cell Study Group (ISCSG) Association, Lucknow 226010, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The well-orchestrated process of wound healing may be negatively impacted from interrupted or incomplete tissue regenerative processes. The healing potential is further compromised in patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic venous insufficiency, critical limb ischemia, and immunocompromised conditions, with a high health care burden and expenditure. Stem cell-based therapy has shown promising results in clinical studies.
