Aims: Perineural invasion (PNI) is associated with survival in oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC). There is evidence to suggest that PNI location and extent may be of additional significance. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic ability of PNI, including location and extent, in early-stage OCSCC.

Context.—: The current melanoma staging system does not account for 26% of the variance seen in melanoma-specific survival, therefore our ability to predict patient outcome is not fully elucidated. Morphology may be of greater significance than in other solid tumors, with Breslow thickness remaining the strongest prognostic indicator despite being subject to high levels of interobserver variation.

Background: The prognostic significance of close margins in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is controversial. We wished to investigate the impact of close margins on the risk of local recurrence (LR) in OSCC according to the oral subsite.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 342 OSCC patients undergoing primary surgical treatment was conducted.
Managing skin conditions in patients with darkly pigmented skin (DPS) can be challenging due to inadequate exposure to dermatology in DPS in clinical training. In this study, Irish GPs were less likely to correctly diagnose common skin conditions in patients with DPS ( < 0.001) and had lower confidence levels in diagnosis in DPS ( < 0.

Study Objectives: This study aimed to outline the strategy and outcomes of a study team in recruiting participants for an infant sleep study via social media during the COVID-19 pandemic, to assess the feasibility of recruitment via social media, and to quantitatively and qualitatively explore parental satisfaction and perceptions of recruitment via social media.
Methods: The assessing sleep in infants with early-onset atopic dermatitis by longitudinal evaluation (SPINDLE) study recruited infants with and without atopic dermatitis for a longitudinal study assessing sleep. Infants were recruited via social media and their parents were interviewed to explore their experience of recruitment via social media.

Introduction & Importance: Primary Sino-nasal metastases are rare. The most common anatomical sites that metastasise to this region are the kidneys followed by the lungs, breast, thyroid and prostate. Metastases from laryngeal cancer are even rarer.

Background: Targeted biologic therapies have revolutionised the treatment of severe atopic dermatitis (AD).
Objectives: To assess effects of dupilumab on patient re-engagement, quality of life (QOL), and burden of treatment (BOT) in severe AD.
Methods: Adults on dupilumab for AD completed questionnaires on QOL, BOT, and provided qualitative reflections, with a subset interviewed to explore experience of leaving and re-engaging with dermatology.

Major head and neck surgery poses a threat to perioperative airway patency. Adverse airway events are associated with significant morbidity, potentially leading to hypoxic brain injury and even death. Following a review of the literature, recommendations regarding airway management in head and neck surgery were developed with multicenter, multidisciplinary agreement among all Irish head and neck units.

Purpose: For primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is an increasing trend towards patient-specific alignment strategies such as kinematic alignment (KA) and inverse kinematic alignment (iKA), which by restoring native joint mechanics may yield higher patient satisfaction rates. Second, the most recent Australian joint registry report describes favourable revision rates for conventionally instrumented TKA compared to technology-assisted techniques such as those using navigation, robotics or custom-cutting blocks. The aim of this technique article is to describe in detail a surgical technique for TKA that: (1) utilises the principles of iKA and (2) uses conventionally instrumented guided resections thereby avoiding the use of navigation, robotics or custom blocks.

Purpose: Restricted inverse kinematic alignment (iKA) is a contemporary alignment strategy for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), commonly performed with robotic assistance. While superior clinical results are reported for kinematic-type alignment strategies, registry data indicate no survivorship benefit for navigation or robotic assistance. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of an instrumented, restricted iKA technique for achieving patient-specific alignment.

Background: Expanded access programs (EAPs) allow cancer patients with unmet clinical need to obtain access to pre-authorisation treatments. There is no standardised process for implementing these programs nationally, and real-world data on their impact is lacking.
Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of such EAPs and their impact in a cancer centre.

The burden of treatment (BOT) related to propranolol treatment for infantile hemangiomas (IH) has never previously been explored. A modified validated questionnaire, the Treatment Burden Questionnaire, and one-on-one semi-structured interviews were used to assess the BOT for propranolol for IH. Out of 80 caregivers, the overall burden score was very low at 1.

Importance: Use of intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) during thyroidectomy can nearly eliminate the risk of postoperative bilateral vocal cord palsy (VCP) by indicating staged surgery in cases of loss of signal (LOS) on the first side of planned total thyroidectomy. However, aborting planned total thyroidectomy may lead to persistence of symptoms, delay in adjuvant treatment, and patient inconvenience and distress. There are few data to guide a selective approach to total thyroidectomy in patients with first-side LOS.

Background: Selective neck dissection (SND) has traditionally been applied to clinically negative (cN0) necks in mucosal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). We aimed to examine the oncological safety and patterns of regional recurrence (RR) of SND in clinically positive (cN+) necks.
Methods: Retrospective review of prospective cohort of 206 patients with mucosal SCC undergoing neck dissection.
